you’ve got dave suddenly examining his own sexuality because karkat has recently come out, dave realising that his bro is gay as well (should have always known), and stargazing that can’t help but turn a lot more sincere than it was intended. 

i wrote this because i love high school aus and because i wanted a lighter tone on discovering sexuality. dave’s not in denial out of fear, he’s just a dumbass. he’s in awe with the way karkat knows himself and the way it hasn’t changed who he is.

it’s lighter on family stuff too. bro is still bro enough to have shown dave movies he shouldn’t have seen and to leave him home alone when he probably shouldn’t, but he’s just a big brother trying his best. karkat’s family is ridiculously domestic, and the fact that dave can get home cooked meals and be asked about his interests with sincerity is pretty awesome to him. 

i wrote a vaguely follow up jade/nepeta fic for this that still isn’t finished in the same universe and i’m working on a fic where dave comes out to bro as well. i’ll keep you posted on that one.
