We have been asked to strike during these days by the lovely & hardworking journalist Bisan from Gaza. Let's all try our best for a people being tested with the harshest conditions imaginable. The occupation must be held accountable.

We're in this together!!

You can feel however you like about the efficacy of the strike currently taking place, but if you're posting advising folks against participating because "that's not how a global strike works", I really encourage you to examine your behavior and your motivations. We know this isn't the traditional or perfect, platonic ideal of how a global strike should look or function, but it isn't about that. It isn't even particularly about efficacy in the traditional sense of a strike. No-one thinks that this is going to end the bombing. No-one thinks that this action is going to change the political marketplace forever. But a very public, very well-known Palestinian activist and journalist has requested on the public, global stage that this action be taken. The least that we can do, while we also do other active work in this arena, is respect her wishes and galvanize on her behalf. It does not hurt any of us to do what we can. It does not take away from activism for Palestine as a whole to participate in this event. What it could do is show the global public that the narrative has changed, the people stand with Palestine in ways that can translate into action. What it definitely does do is let Bisan and others know that they're being heard. That we remember them. That we're here. I can't think of a single reason not to do what you can. I can't think of a single reason not to do everything you can. And the very least of what we can do is take her request seriously.
