I’ve got a string of doctor visits coming up. Not to mention the er visit bill. But mostly I want to cover the gyno bill so I don’t have to worry over the holiday. It’ll be around $175 (possibly double if they request an ultrasound) So if you buy anything from my shop right now, it’s all going to that. I hate this had to happen now, but thank you for even giving this a glance.

The Fossil Is Not The Animal.

The fossil is not the animal.

The fossil is not the bones of the animal.

The fossil is the stone’s memory of the bones of the animal.

And that’s a poetry older than words.

alright for the millionth time I'm seeing yet another author I admire talk about how they literally can barely afford to live & yet there are people openly admitting to pirating their books so, like

i guess it needs to be said again

pirating books is not the same as pirating your favourite Disney movie or whatever. book piracy kills author's incomes and can genuinely ruin someone's career

writing tip: don’t tell us your character’s backstory. don’t tell us what your character is thinking. don’t tell us what your character is doing. don’t tell us anything. the reader should simply look at a blank page and be suddenly overcome with emotion.

Writeblr (Re) Intro

Writeblr (Re) Intro

Hi, I made some changes so I might as well do this again.

I’m June (he/him) and I write under the penname Aliston J. Drake. Everyone just calls me June though.  I write adult court intrigue/political fantasy about corrupt royalty with m/m romances about either very pretty men or criminals. I also like short stories about sad men with slight magical elements.

My Main Projects:

The Saints Song Series (adult court intrigue fantasy)

The Night Court + The House of Ruin (adult fantasy/poly romance)

Someone Will Die (1930s setting monster mystery)

The Sad Men:

A Werewolf (the only thing scarier than the supernatural next door neighbor is marriage and trauma)

But Who Will Take Care of God? (40+ year old man with daddy issues)

You can also find out about my side projects and other stuff here and here if you’re interested!

I’m also a cesspit of fashion history knowledge and I’m always down to talk about costuming and character design from a fashion standpoint and fashion as an extension of character arcs and traits. I’m always down to connect with and follow other 18+ writeblrs or talk about world building so please hit me up if we have similar interests. I’ll also eventually open up to resuming critique exchanges if anyone is interested. Y’all can also hit me up on discord, which you have to ask for because I’m paranoid like that.

In case anyone is unsure how to get their writeblr dash more active...

People get busy. Life happens, and we can’t always be super active on our blogs in the ways we want to be (this is where I am currently). These are some things I like to do after I feel like I’ve been away from my blog for a while that also help the community and other writeblrs out. ♡

♡ Look through the latest writeblr introduction/active writeblrs/looking for active writeblrs/creative writing/etc. tags and make it a priority to  r e b l o g  everyone’s intros and latest wips and such. This helps introduce yourself to others as well as helping everyone else out in the community by giving active blogs more attention and interaction.

♡ Follow and interact with the people you see in the tags! We are the lifeblood that keeps this community alive and without us the writeblr community wouldn’t exist on Tumblr. Use that to your advantage!

♡ Write a writeblr reintroduction! Let people know you’re still alive and kicking and looking to be more involved in the community. Make posts that reintroduce your WIPs, characters, and more.

♡ Don’t be afraid to message writers and ask them about their WIPs and characters, as well as asking for others to look over your WIPs and see what they think of them. I can’t speak for others but my inbox is always open and I love chatting with other writers and hyping each other up! It’s the best.

♡  Participate in writeblr tag games and get to know the fellow writers in your community and what kind of genres they like to write in, what their writing styles are like, how often they like to write, what their favorite tropes are, etc.

♡ Reblog. Reblog. REBLOG. It’s great to receive a like on your writeblr posts but reblogging is what keeps our community thriving and helps others get more eyes on their work. It’s a great way for writers to support other writers, and really, that’s what the community is for. :)

Feel free to pm me or add more if you’ve got any tips. :)

Dealing with burnout as a writer

From someone who experiences it too often and usually has to work through it on their own.

This is limited to what I experience and what works for me.

First, how do you know you’re going through burnout?

For me, some tell-tale signs are:

Detachment, feeling disconnected from everything.

Prolonged exhaustion that doesn’t go away even after a nap.

Difficulty performing tasks, even those I’m passionate about and don’t want to procrastinate on.

Knowing where the story is supposed to go but just not being able to come up with words so the idea just floats in my head leading too…

Irritability and frustration

Here’s how I (try to) deal with burnout:

Taking breaks, the obvious first choice. For some people, taking a break after a certain number of words suits them best but I found taking breaks after certain intervals of time works better for me. At the end of the break if I find that I’m still unable to write—like I really just can’t do it—I’ll take a longer break BUT I’ll have to time my break so it doesn’t go on for way too long. I'm terrible at time management so if I don't keep it in check a "break" can extend for a whole month.

Revisiting old works or going through my notes and reading half-done works. I do this especially when I’m low on motivation and it always helps.

Working on something else.

Shifting my attention for a while and then going back to look at my writing from a new prespective. Also, this way I don’t feel bad for not doing anything at all.

Reading other people’s work.

For me, this could be anything from a book to a movie to a song. But most people tend to prefer a book that will help them with their own writing.

Most of the time when I start noticing signs of burnout it’s when I’ve already reached the end of my rope and I’m most likely neglecting my personal needs. So, even the smallest task can make a huge difference to my mood such as; taking a shower, drinking water, cleaning up my workspace (or if I don’t feel like doing that yet, writing somewhere else for a change).

Along with hygiene, it’s important to make sure you’re eating enough. Make something low effort that you'll enjoy .

Physical activity does wonders to make me feel better. Also I'll most likely want to take a shower after running or working out so it's like a 2 in 1.

Going out for a walk is not be feasible or easy for me because of the place I live in but do go outside if you can. There’s so many things out there that can be a source of inspiration. I suggest taking a small notebook with you to write down ideas.

Introducing Nathrheim Publishing, and a sneak peek at our first project!

Happy Halloween! @elijahrichardwrites, @fearofahumanplanet, @bpdgotmelike, and @thenightmarewrites are eager to announce our latest project - Nathrheim Publishing House, an independent punk publishing house with the goal of uplifting marginalized voices, radical leftist perspectives, and other works that find themselves struggling to gain representation in an otherwise insular and restrictive market.

Our goals?

To seek out and publish marginalized & othered voices of any sort - are you a POC? LGBT? Disabled, visible or not? Suffering a stigmatized disorder (Cluster B folks, line right up)? Lower-class? Any sort of outcast? You're the exact sort of people we're looking to represent. We feel there aren't enough perspectives on the market, and we want to change that.

An approachable, transparent business style. All too often, publishing houses are downright opaque about their intent and their work process, and it's hard to really get your foot in the door when no one will even inform you why you're being rejected. We aim to defy that norm.

We aim to particularly represent daring, provocative, rebellious, offbeat and all-around "weird" voices. Have you been told your work wouldn't sell? We think it will, and we're willing to put money on the line to prove it. We do not require an agent - if you have a story you want published and no one else wants it, send it right to us, we'll take a look.

Please reblog for visibility!!!

We are not open for submissions yet - for now, we plan on publishing our first book and fundraising the money required to take on other authors and publish them too. When we do take submissions, we are especially interested in works from the writeblr community as well as all categories listed above! As for our first book...

There’s this image that repeats in my head, way in the back of my mind. It’s where I see her. Hair wild, feet bare, and teeth dripping red, I am an animal. Instinctual and naked, I scream without an apology in my voice. My back is arched as I eat from the earth. I am freer than the birds with, fangs sharper than the bear. Try and hurt me then, and watch me devour you whole.

~When will I become that wild woman?

To Tired Writers. To the people out there whose hearts very, very much want to write and work on WIPs, but who are just mentally and physically exhausted right now. It’s okay. It is okay to rest sometimes. Allow yourself time to rest.

writeblr intro

Hello!

My name is B, 28M, Vietnamese, cis male, and hopelessly gay. Currently living in Sydney, Australia, and working on my first novel!

This tumblr is for me to connect with other writers - I don’t have any friends who are also into writing, so hoping to make some here :) - and basically to use it as a chiller feed compared to, say, the other hellsite.

Main WIP:

It’s an urban fantasy set in a fictional city in modern southeast Australia, with heavy Lovecraftian undertones and strong gay romance elements. I’ve written an intro post on my main blog, and still working on it atm!

Shorts:

While I’m pecking at the main WIP I’ve also been playing a TTRPG game, and have been writing a few shorts based on the character I play! Meet Han Yu, the Sewer Doctor!

Beneath the streets of Payne Town where waste sludges through plumbing like clotted blood, where underdwellers tick their days by, surviving, preying, or festering, the Sewer Doctor holds his base of operations.

Do you want a grotesque trophy to impress your innermost circle of elites? Perhaps alien warmth to sate your darkest desires? Maybe seek the help and care everyone deserves, the help the powers that be withhold from you, for they deem your wellbeing unprofitable, your existence a simple statistic?

Seek out the rats in alleyways, behind the everyday filth daywalkers cannot bear to acknowledge. They will see you, and they will hear what you have to say. Speak to them, follow them, to the Clinic where the Doctor waits. May your pain be relieved and yourself made whole, no matter your perceived dollar worth. But if you do bring your shameful desires’ worth… the Doctor does not judge. He delivers.

@local:han simon is this the fucking reason why ive been getting fleshlight requests on the market?

@local:simon Modern solutions for modern problems, boy. ( 👎1)

There are 4 pieces so far:

Gift

Patient

Clean

Deal

Interests

I like SFF, gay romance, and gay SFF. Lovecraftian stuff too, though more on the monster design and existentialism.

Outside of books, I also love TTRPGs, and general geekery.

Leftist and vegan :)
