You have to understand that there is no agreed upon definition of an species and there will never be one unless there's some kind of biological dictatorship. We just know that species exist and they're kind of one of the pilllars of biology, there's even this rather famous book On The Origin of them, but there is no universally agreed up definition of what species are. You'll see papers doing ridiculous stuff like creating ten new species of poorly studied deer on India based on horn lenght and then you'll see frogs that are completely different in colors and size and people ask me "are they different species" and no they aren't. And if you don't believe me, see dogs. Are dogs a separate species from wolves? Haha who knows. Would they be considered different species if all we had was fossil remains. Bet on it.
