Where's my "bad family is so irreparable and bad that you have to just cut ties entirely and leave" arc?

Like, listen, I like my "family was so lost in trying to be protective that they didn't realuze the damage but when they do they better themselves as people" just as much ad the next person over. They're heartwarming and a nice thought when done well (and not a bullshit apology to a family that was not redeemed). Just awww everything is better, the entire family is crying with you as they watch. So cute and sweet.

But where's my "family is always there no matter what"

"That's what I thought. Where were you?"

"Family always helps eachother no matter"

"You're the sole reason I have low self esteem, depression, and social anxiety."

"Family is everything, you never disrespect Family."

"You made my entire childhood boil down to me trying everything to make you proud yet every second you told me my thoughts and ideas were worthless."

"You never leave the side of family no matter what happens. We always fight together."

"You're the reason I'm being dragged to literal hell because I blindly followed you out of love."

I love exploring family dynamics so much. Family in fiction is extremely huge to me, from healthy to downright toxic, from the parents to the kids, the romance, found family, biological family, makeshift families, whole families, big and small. I love them all.

But not real ones. Those one suck. It's only captivating and beautiful in fiction regardless of the household.

Point is, family is super important to me in stories. It's a form of dynamic between characters, be it growth through bondage or self destruction. A type of "family dynamic" between characters can make it go from mid to fucking fantastic and engaging. But whenever we talk about the funny biological families, the first thought is "how can we fix their issue to make everyone happy?".

Now, of course, that's a very reasonable question. And it can be explored many ways. It's good, it has it's place. I enjoy it full heartedly. Because sometimes things can be fixed. And that important to know, especially with family

But give me my toxic ass family that can't be fixed and the character must either choose to:

A. Be brainwashed by their family due to societal expectations where you must, no matter what, love your family at all costs

Or B. Cut off an entire family you've known from birth who have either literally or metaphorically hit you, beat you down, and leave you sprawled out on the floor weeping because. Those people don't often change. Especially in adulthood. Especially when a child tells them, or their offspring even if their offspring is now an adult

Show me more of that character who learnt to overcome family that won't magically change for them so they have to be the one to learn when to give up, lest they only be hurt, kicked, chastised more. Show me the character who becomes independent and strong via letting go of something they've been taught to never talk back to, to never oppose, to never leave the side of and always obey no matter the situation. Show me a character who has to leave behind simple negativity to finally live happily. A final, desperate measure of just walking away instead of tearing themselves apart more

Because, let's be real, how many toxic families have you known that actually held the capacity to understand, correct their wrong, and suddenly became better people as a whole? I, for one, know none. Is it just my environment? Perhaps. I can only speak from what I know, of course. And what I know is that such a change is too hard for the average person, especially one who has travelled so far down that path. The parents are given the expectation to raise a child and to always be right. To be a role model to them and overall hold power. In doing so, they subconsciously shut down the possibility of the child ever being above them, and equal can be too close to above. Therefore, they push the child down lower than themselves. And this tends to be generational trauma of sorts, a thought process they went through, therefore recreate that can lead to very toxic outcomes. Such as manipulation and general abuse of multiple forms

I know these stories exist, and they have me sobbing every time. I love bittersweet endings. Give me moooooorree. More family dynamics exploring the same or new things in different ways, different growths. No one answer is correct, so let me watch these options be explored moooore

And a small add-on, I personally really dislike self shipping. At best, it's cringe, at worst it's creepy. And yet. Despite that, I actively follow and support people who I'm not even friends with, much less mutuals, who do it because I don't care. They're talented people with their own opinions and lives. I respect their space, thoughts, and so on. Some people I'm good friends with and talk to actively self ship. Does that mean I think they're disgusting people and I look for reason to attack them? I also don't like Caine x Pomni as a ship because I think it's lame. (I'm not going on another bullshit reason on how it could be considered a "proship"). Yet I actively like and enjoy content from creators who do enjoy it. Why? Because I don't believe they're bad people and if I really don't like the content I'm seeing from them. I just keep scrolling and move on. Because I don't have to like every single piece of content to accept another person's personal opinions. Nor do I have to avoid liking all content to disagree with them

Not people saying Frans is a proship but Pomni x Jax, Stolas x Blitz, whatever Belle has going on with her beast, Hades x Persephone, JFK x Joan of Arc, and I don't even want to touch on what's seemingly happening with Murder Drones, are completely free of such "critism".

And then people will scream "proships?? How????? I ship then and they're fine!" As if "proship" is only used as an insult against a ship someone doesn't like via the twisted bullshit made up definition. How do the ships above qualify as "proship" material? Simple!

Pomni x Jax could be seen as abusive. Jax actively looks for ways to hurt others, especially physically!!! Including Pomni, whom he used as a tight rope and threw things at. Furthermore, if you want to be weird about it, you could argue its beastality because one is a damn rabbit and the other a human. Do I believe it is? Fuck no. But antis are desperate creeps. Not to mention when some people claimed it was pedophilic because they saw Pomni as an underage child. Not to mention you could bullshit into saying they have a power dynamic because Jax has a key to everyone's room therefore holds power over them. And Jax is just general self-destructive as hell and does not care if it affects others.

Stolas x Blitz is the most self explanatory of romanticised abuse. Stolas is literally royalty and a cry baby who victim blames himself despite him having power and blackmailing in the relationship. Then guilt trips some more because hell yeah. Let's fucking burn this house down. Blitz has actively shown to be scared, uncomfortable, or even outright reject Stolas' advancements only to be told he's the bad guy for falling into some bullshit stockholm syndrome where he's terrified to leave

Belle is 17 in the movie, Beast is 21 or so estimatedly. That's 4 year age gap but people LOVE calling pedophilia and grooming at any character below 18 regardless of the ACTUAL age gap. And everyone knows of the stockholm. Her own father was taken from her and held hostage until she traded her own freedom for her parent. She was locked in his castle against her will because the man wanted to attempt to clumsily win her hand in order to be human again. She was cut off from the outside world, loved ones, only speaking to people who actively supported and even aided her capture. When she was let go, she was given a magic mirror to watch the beast sulk in sadness for the rest of eternity (if it wasn't to drive the plot forward, that would be caused her serious guilt and self loathing) and even when freed she could not stay away. So that's bullshit "pedophilia", power imbalance, family held captive, and imprisonment to create an arguably "problematic" and "toxic" relationship

Hades and Persephone is more stockholm. Hades kidnapped and forced Persephone to marry him at the age of believed 19-20. And you can believe Hades is much older. He took her from her mother and her life prancing around flowery fields, instead dragging her to the underworld where this goddess associated with life is surrounded by death. Isolated her. She could only see her mother in, I believe, the spring. Not to mention. Isn't Hades her uncle?

JFK literally Spends the entire first season (I didn't watch past, fuck that) sexualizing women for sex. He berated Joan at best and only tried being nice to her when she was "hot" at worst. When Joan was all sad about Abe not loving her, JFK comes in to say he's "always" thought she was pretty just to get in her pants. Nothing about it was genuine. He used her for his own gain. And she arguably used him without considering his feelings to make Abe jealous. Nothing about either of their sides is healthy

That is not to say I look at all those ships and think of the worst in them. I actively love some of those that I critiqued, I don't care if another person loves it either. All I care about is the intention behind someone who ships because we don't always see things the same way and I hate the term "proshipping", it is such a brainless black and white desperate insult.

Oh I'm so sorry you see these characters in some sick, gross way. Allow me to suggest: keep walking and minding your own business? Accepting that others have different opinions from you and that's okay? You can still be friends with someone who has different character headcanons than you? To not be hateful and bitter and look for every opportunity to attack someone who's different from you? To not force your arguably gross views that are not canon between two characters onto other people?

Here's a funny: my biggest regret with Skyrim is blindly downloading "required mods" to make one original/ custom follower (not limited to one ever follower, I got like 5 and I love them all equally <3) work.

Now every time I play, kill a woman, and loot her, she is completely nude. Then I turn off the game, completely forget, rinse and repeat
