Summary
IO is a dystopia in which a world with polluted oxygen has killed most of the living beings on earth. Due to this situation, everyone decided to go to colonize other planets so they could survive. Only a girl, Sam Walden (Margaret Qualley) and her father Henry Walden (Danny Huston) decided to stay on earth because they still had hope. After Henry dies, Sam is left alone with her experiments trying to make everything work again.
One day, a random stranger, Micah, (Anthony Mackie) appears. Sam had a boyfriend in other planet but he breaks up with her. Then, Mica and Sam don’t fall in love with each other but they have sex only to preserve the human race. At the end, he decides to leave, but she stays there with her child, proving that there is still hope indeed.
Review
The actors are quite good. The plot is simple but attractive, and sometimes its gets boring. It could have been filled at least, with some space aesthetic and music. Characters were cold in terms of love and passsion, which was something I appreciate because it’s not the typical cliché love story movie.I like the imagination Sam has and her love for science and mythology. All the paintings, sculptures, libraries, the museums and ruins and the greek myth of Leda and the Swan are elements from the movie I really appreciate.
The fact of putting an interracial couple as the future of makind is, in my opinion, a curious fact open to many interpretations. From this fact we could talk about issues like racism, feminism.
