I would love to see a moment where Penelope Fittes, thinking she has been sneaky in inviting Lucy to lavish parties and that eventually Lucy will come to join Fittes because of it, realises that Lucy has only been attending the parties because Lockwood likes going so much and all she has really been doing is organising dates for the two of them.
petition for matilda by harry styles to be renamed lucy because if that song ain't lockwood singing to her then what's the point
lucy and lockwood are literally a married couple. the way lockwood apologized to her in the kitchen?? the way lockwood literally exists for her?? the way he’d die for luce?? the way he literally cut and buttered her toast for her, the way he held her FUCKING HAND.
Deeply deeply adore the way L&Co didn't take the Fittes Ball as an opportunity to put Lucy in a revealing dress just to tantalize Lockwood or something. Not that that would have been accurate at all to the books, and it would have completely gone against the vibe of the show anyways. But we all know how eager the entertainment industry is to sexualize female bodies and put female characters in uncomfortable situations for the "benefit" of the male characters.
But no. Lucy wore something that she could feel comfortable in, something practical and entirely beautiful. She didn't even wear heels! And when Lockwood came up to the attic and saw her in her dress, he looked at her with obvious wonder. Not blatant lust. (Again, obviously wouldn't have fit with the story but you know.)
Thank you thank you thank you to Jonathan Stroud, Joe Corn-adjacent, and everyone else involved in the production of this show for creating your main female character to be so very real and wonderful.
I kinda love books that are just good. They aren’t gonna change my life. They won’t affect how I think or see the world. I won’t stay awake running the words through my head over and over again. I probably won’t remember the main characters’ names. There’s a good chance I’ll forget I even read it at some point. But it was still good. It made me smile or laugh or cry or just feel content in the moment. Not every book needs to be a ground-breaker. Not every book needs to alter your brain chemistry. Not every book needs to be the best book you’ve ever read. Sometimes you read a book, and it’s just good. And that’s enough. That’s all you need
