she wanted their hair to match
[id: It’s a drawing of Aizawa holding Eri in his arms. Aizawa is depicted with tan skin that has a few sunspots, dark eye bags, and patchy stubble. His black hair is tied into a lazy bun. He is wearing a black shirt and black stud earrings. He is drawn with his usual scar under his eye. Eri is wearing the outfit he bought her—a blue Neko sweater and red leggings with a built in tutu that is purple, pink, and yellow—and has her arms wrapped around his neck. She is drawn with pale skin, white hair, and reddish eyes. Her hair is also tied into a lazy bun to match Aizawa’s. They are smiling at each other. /end id]
The big twist behind all the boring little details

Note: This post is long, and spends half its time explaining floor plans and architecture. But bare with the boring little details for now - cause by the end, they all come together for one helluva twist.
In the second semester of Izuku Midoriya’s first year, UA High implements a dormitory policy for all its students. Like the other classes, Class 1-A gets an entire BUILDING to itself as a dormitory. Boku no Hero Academia spends two whole chapters on explaining the ins and outs of the dorm and room assignments for the students - chapters 98 and 99 respectively. It’s an odd choice, to the point where Deku actually breaks the fourth wall in chapter 99 to question the decision.

Now it can be argued that the two chapters are a “cooling off” period after the drama of the villain ambush and All Might vs AfO - a chance to show off the entire class’s personality based off how they choose to decorate their rooms - but there’s something more to the two dormitory chapters beyond showcasing the personalities of the students.

Principal Nezu states outright in the first chapter, chapter 98, that purpose of the dorms is not just to protect the students, but something more. Principal Nezu built the dorms to catch a potential mole - the traitor. This post… will not be focusing on that. In fact, I would even go so far as to argue that the traitor talk is a misdirect - a plotpoint flaunted by Hori to make us search for the traitor so he could sneak something RIGHT PAST OUR NOSES.
Let’s begin by noting the basic facts of the dormitory’s structure.

I’ll list the key points for clarity. Keep number one and two in the back of your mind - they’ll be brought up and expanded upon later.
1. The left side of the dorm is the boy’s side, the right side of the dorm is the girl’s side - with the exception of the first floor.
2. The first floor is a “common area” open to both boys and girls.
3. The rooms for boys and girls begin from the second floor up to the fith floor
4. There is a courtyard.
Let’s examine the layout of 4 of the dorm’s 5 floors - using the floor plans the manga provides us. We only get floorplans for the second floor and up - so we’ll have to construct a floorplan for the first floor later.

I removed Aizawa’s dialogue and the names of which student go to which room here - because the particular room assignments ISN’T what you should be paying attention to here. Instead, pay attention to the shape of the building from floor to floor. You’ll note that on 4F and 5F(the fourth and fifth floor), the bottom doesn’t touch like 3F and 2F does. Why do they not connect? Well, a look at the front of the dorm building will give us the answer.

See how that 1-A above the the two entrances stops at the third floor? That’s the corridor that connects the first, second, and third floor - and it stops after the third floor. However, don’t be misled by the word “connection.” The space to connect is present on 2F and 3F, but there’s a wall dividing the boy’s wing and the girl’s wing. That’s why when the class finishes checking out all the boys rooms on the second floor, they need to go down to the first floor and then up a floor to get to the girls rooms on the second floor.

So note the black line inbetween the 3 and the F - that’s the divider. As for what the red arrows are pointing to - they’re pointing to the gap on both 3F and 4F’s floor plans. What’s the gap? Well, it’s the courtyard.

This small, heavily pixelized drawing which I’ve enhanced is actually the only full profile of the dorm’s exterior we get to see. You can see there’s a front entrance, a connecting corridor, and a large courtyard.

I’ve pointed out the corridor with a red arrow - and as you can see from the size of the courtyard, the building is more like four corridors put together. What does that tell us? Well it tells us that the following image would NOT be we’d see immediately after walking in through the front entrance of the dorm.

In fact, what we’re seeing here is actually the LEFT side of the building. The boy’s side of the building, but the first floor is a common area open to everyone. But what would we see if we went in through the front entrance?

Well, there’s actually TWO entrances - two front doors. One more to the left of the building, and one more to the right. This is a function of the dorm being split by gender - boys on the left, girls on the right. The common floor is open to everyone, but you can’t get to the girls wing of the second floor without going down to the first floor. The reason for this is probably something along the lines of there being two elevators - one that goes up to the boys rooms on the left, one that goes up to the girls rooms on the right. For now, let’s construct a floor plan of the first floor common area based on what we know.

The above is a visual representation of THINGS WE KNOW FOR SURE. The green 1 and 2 are the two front doors of the dorm. The star is the left side of the first floor common area - the one with the tv and couches. The two blue question marks are rooms of some kind - we’ll speculate on what rooms they are later.

Flash forward to Chapter 126, and we see another interior shot of the left side of the common area as Izuku frantically runs off to his internship with Sir. Since Izuku runs down the corridor to leave, we know that the entrance of the building is in the direction he’s running. We know from the image below that he’ll have to make a right turn once he passes the TV and couch area, and then another right to leave through one of the front entrances.

So here’s what we’re gonna do now. We’re gonna track Izuku’s route as he rushes to get to his internship, and see if we notice anything odd.

I’ve enlarged a panel from a previous page - do you notice anything odd about it in regards to Izuku?

It’s the “FSH FSH FSH” sound effect Izuku is making as he runs. The sound effect itself is fine - Izuku IS in a hurry - but notice what DIRECTION Izuku is running from, using the “FSH FSH FSH” sound effect. That’s right, the right side of the building.
The girl’s side.
Let’s not be too hasty in jumping to any conclusions. We need to determine just how Izuku would get up and down the building based on his room. Luckily, we can use the floor plans and Mineta to determine that.

Now we can start looking at room assignments. Izuku Midoriya’s room is listed as being on the second floor. He’s right next to Mineta, so we can use two perspective shots with Mineta to figure out Izuku’s possible routes to get out.

We know that there is a set of stairs and/or elevator at the end of 2F’s corridor from this perspective of Mineta’s room

But from this perspective - we don’t see anything to the right besides the windows. In other words, Izuku can only exit 2F by going down the hallway.

So be it an elevator, staircase, or both, Izuku’s options to leave in the morning lie where the green check is. In fact,it’s literally his ONLY option.
But that’s a problem. Remember, Mineta’s room is right above the kitchen counter area in the common room - meaning that if Izuku was rushing out the door from his room, the stairs/elevator should have him pop out near the yellow star on our floor plan.

Yet his route to leave is like this.

We can chalk it all up to something we didn’t see or account for - but just as Izuku’s route completely contradicts the exit options a BOY would have, it actually fits in perfectly with how a GIRL would exit the building. Let’s prove it by using Tsuyu’s perspective of the 5F hallway we see in chapter 99

Like with Mineta, there’s only one exit on this floor - and it’s the way the students choose to leave.

But it’s on the OPPOSITE side of the hall relative to 2F. And, coincidentally, would fit right in with Izuku’s exit route.
So let’s update our floor plan with the elevator that goes to the boys wings, and the elevator that goes to the girl’s wings.

We see that if for some incredibly strange reason Izuku were to live on the girl’s side of the building, his route would actually be the MOST efficient. But Izuku isn’t a girl, and besides, the whole class saw his room, right?
…
Right?
Well, in actuality.. we’ve only seen one person inside Izuku’s room besides Izuku.

Ochako Uraraka. When we see the other students showing off their room, we see more than two people inside the room, or at the very least, multiple people react to the room

But with Izuku, not only do we just see Ochako inside his room, no one besides Ochako even comments on his room.
Let’s put the conclusion on hold. Remember what Izuku and Bakugou’s punishment was for fighting?

Cleaning. Yet despite Izuku’s origin being the cleaning of an entire beach, he seems to have slacked off a bit in his task.

He didn’t clean his side of the first floor common area. Say, what WAS Izuku’s side of the common area? Can we even find out? Actually, we CAN

See the square glass pattern? The windows Mineta is touching has its glass seperated into squares. And they’re on the RIGHT side of the hall

We know the above image is the LEFT side of the common area - the area directly below the boys rooms. And look - same windows as the one Mineta is touching with its glass divided into little squares, but they’re on the LEFT side.
In other words - the side of the common room that Izuku was supposed to clean, but the side that for some reason Izuku FORGOT to clean was THE GIRL’S SIDE
Now, you REALLY will need to read my earlier post HERE or else you’ll think I’m the one who is crazy, but here’s the conclusion.
Izuku Midoriya used the route he used to leave in the morning because Izuku Midoriya lives on the girl’s side of the dorms. Izuku Midoriya lives on the girls side of the dorms because Izuku Midoriya is a girl. Izuku Midoriya didn’t neglect to clean the girl’s side of the dorm - Izuku Midoriya forgot, because at the time, Izuku Midoriya was his true self - Ochako Uraraka.

my sister and i have a bit where shigaraki is just rlly into menchis frozen yogurt and uses kurogiri to get it more than any one person should. and kurogiris like ‘tomura shigaraki this is your fifth froyo this week… and you barely put any yogurt in your cup...’ and shigarakis like ‘IDIOT! the toppings are the best part…….’ then he pays exclusively in 1 dollar bills..….. im foreger trapped in a frigid, 2018-esque hellscape.
Y’know, a lot of people think that Aizawa wouldn’t want Midoriya to become a teacher so he can “have some peace”, but honestly, after everything that happened in the war, I think he’d enjoy having someone from 1A around. He cares so much for those kids. Now he can only watch them be heroes through a TV screen. At least having one nearby to check on, maybe share lunch with, grade papers, and talk about the new generations of heroes together.
And think about it. They both had a highly sought after quirk that they both lost in the war. Aizawa’s really the only person at UA who knows exactly what that’s like.
Midoriya would also help with anything involving Eri. Need someone to make food for after band practice? Got it. Need someone to take you to competition? Absolutely. The two are unstoppable together.
And honestly, I think Aizawa sees Shirakumo in Midoriya. He sees a dream that was taken too quickly. He asks Midoriya if he’s lonely, because he knows how painful it is to be separated from his friends. He may still put up a gruff exterior, but I think he really wants Midoriya to do his best, take pride in his work now.
I headcanon he put in the recommendation for Midoriya to come teach. Just like Nemuri did for him.
