Meiji period fashion was some of the best in the world, speaking purely from an aesthetic standpoint you can really see the collision of European and Japanese standards of beauty and how their broad agreement even in particulars (the similarity between Japanese and Gibson girl bouffants, the obi vs the corset, the obi knot vs the bustle, the mutual covetousness for exotic textiles, the feverish swapping of both art styles and subjects) combined and produced some of the most interesting cultural exchange we have this level of documentation for. Europeans were wearing kimono or adapting them into tea gowns, japanese were pairing lacy Edwardian blouses with skirt hakama and little button up boots. haori jackets with bowler hats and European style lapels. if steampunk was any good as an aesthetic it would steal wholesale from the copious records we have in both graphic arts and photography of how people were dressing in this milieu.

Hey maybe i should see about posting my full process with making the Sam gun, I do have quite a few wip shots that I can show and explain how I worked with it

Ooh btw while I’m posting, quick question for anybody who might be a little cosplay-savvy—I have a Sam cosplay I’m hoping to show off come Halloween, but what I’d really love to make for it is a replica of Sam’s gun to go with :0 I have a little pop gun at home (y’know the type with the blasting caps? That lmao) that I’m hoping to build on top of, but I’m not really sure what materials to use. EVA foam maybe? Clay?? Props are one kind of craft I haven’t properly gotten into lmao, I would love any advice y’all might have to give :’)

TLDR I wanna make Sam’s gun but I’m not sure what materials to get started with. Any recommendations?

I like the floating ideas and some other fanwork of human Sam being black or at the least tan and Max being Mexican American. (Need to draw human Max again).

My human Sam is half Black, half Irish American.

He has a few freckles and thick, reddish, alburn, shoulder length curly hair that he combs and slicks back for his hat.

His eyes are deep blue, his teeth are uneven, gapped with a slight underbite from genetics and the sugary food he eats.

I just find this detail really nice, especially as someone who was insecure about the gaps between their teeth and imperfect smile for the longest time. So seeing that aspect of me represented in such a cute manner in one of my favorite characters ever is just ahhhhhh 💕💕 I really wanna draw a cute gap tooth Sam now ‹:
