so... you know how you have a few characters on your team for a while... and you start memorizing their dialog subconsciously? Maybe you repeat it out loud at the same time they do, and they hear it on the other side. I don't know why I was thinking of this, but it had me thinking 'why not dip my toes in a self-aware AU?' So here we are once again in a wildly different flavor of post than usual.

The cast had settled into living with your lingering presence over time. They couldn't see you, only hear, which was off-putting at first. An assumed Aeon that contacted them and influenced their movements individually- yet never revealed themselves? Even more curious, you had a tendency to prattle on about current happenings and sometimes speak to them each in an indirect manner. Like... copying their words?

"The customer is king! And for me to betray the king, well, you gotta make it worth my while."

That was his line- and to hear it out of anyone else's mouth with scarily good cadence was enough to smack him from his friend-to-all persona.

It was a shock to the system hearing it from you. He knew you were an 'odd' Aeon, but playing copycat was childish! How you wound him! It took the second go around for him to hear the giggle in your voice as you parroted his lines back. You weren't mocking him, you were playing along!

Once he did recover, however, he felt a deep sense of pride in his rotten little heart. Less in a cute way and more of a 'the aeon likes me better than the rest of you' kind of way. Really, he will not shut up about how your favorability makes him the golden one among the rest of the team.

And yes, he even attempts to find ways to profit of it. Idly pretending to speak to himself about business deals and such, trying to bait your sweet voice into rambling some very valuable insider info... you had a tendency to call things before they happened, after all.

After repeating his lines, you swear you've been hearing very unique ones that aren't even listed in his character info when you're using Sampo to walk around. He'll comment on the stars and business- it must be some kind of special event. Sampo knows he mustn't break the unspoken rules and communicate too explicitly. But hey, its just you and him. A tree falls in the woods and no ones around to hear it situation. He can't keep you engaged with the same lines forever- so let's introduce some new ones.

✧ Welt

"Calm your body and mind."

Immediately followed by "'Calm your body and mind'- I'm trying, Welt!"

Welt was honestly shocked. You went as far to address him by his first rather than Mr. Yang. Yes, you had a tendency to be unfiltered. Especially toward those you didn't like, liked a bit too much, or when a long fought battle was lost by the skin of your teeth. He never heard someone as devastated as you than the time he was the last man standing, one move away from defeating the enemy- only to fall to some lasting burn or bleed effect.

He was glad the volume of your voice was the same as his inner monolog. Or else you would have given him a migraine with your muffled scream of agony.

This appeared to be a similar time. Welt was trusting in you. You'd conquered many a time before using him as your vehicle for strategy. But this enemy was in a league just one step ahead.

It was reflex to say so before attacking. He hadn't meant to direct his words at you. And you copying his voice in such an exaggerated manner was a clear marker that your patience was running very, very thin. It was juvenile of you, yes, but Welt wasn't one for pointing blame nor scolding when it would do no good. Any other time you actually quieted down to hear him speak. (His voice being more even than the others required you to strain your ears to listen.)

Once the battle had ended, he awaited your cheering and singing praises to him, a tiny spark in his chest and smile on his lips. Like clockwork after a rough fight.

When silence met his mind upon leaving battle, he spoke louder than usual. But with a comforting lilt to his otherwise standard line.

"Stay calm."

Maybe you won't notice he should only say that upon entering a fight. Maybe you will. All that matters to Welt is that you're okay, and not stressing over him.

✧ Jing Yuan

"Conflict- is pitiless!"

There's a smile on his face when he hears it. And he fortifies his hand around the grip of his blade; striking forward with a renewed might. Fighting the same beasts repeatedly got dry, you know. Especially when you were grinding for his materials. He was still working on piecing together what that meant after hearing you talk about it once before. Specifically you complaining about how few enemies were left after he made quick work of them. He always liked that, though.

A little praise never hurt. Despite his status as a general owing him many flowers, varying from genuine to flattery, only kind words from you had their desired effect.

You're adorable when copying him, really. Your voice is nowhere near as resonant as his own. But that's the charm.

It's the auditory equivalent of you wearing his clothes. He imagines they'd be much too large. Swallowing your figure up. But you'd make it work in your own way.

But maybe that's just him craving to see you so much. Can you blame him for letting his imagination roam?

Really, out of anyone, he enjoyed the sound of your voice bouncing round his pretty head most. Especially when you'd take after him. His lips curl to a satisfied grin. A mirror of the cat that ate the canary. He has the mind to crank up his voice more. To the point he's cutting off his allies. Dead air is replaced with his voice.

"Hear this thunder!"

"There's no time to lose."

"I command it."

Anything to make you parrot those words back to him. And it sounds like it's working.

⚔ At first, it may not sound flattering that you caught his eye- he is very forward and flirty to those he's attracted to, and that's very many people- but you were different! Something told him to not let you walk away.

Before you knew it, Polnareff had managed to introduce himself and strike up a fluid conversation.

⚔ It's hard for you to notice his violent behavior at first. Not because he's extra careful or anything. He actually thinks you'll praise him for beating someone into submission for you.

He's fairly normal when you're alone or around non-threats. Such as the crusaders, family members, and even friends of yours he's sure won't cross him.

But around potential competition and active threats, he becomes a different person.

Long gone is the extroverted Polnareff. To him there's nothing funny about possibly losing you. He really hates to scare you when the flip switches and he's killed whoever came onto you. It's just a necessary evil.

⚔ Clingy, Clingy, Clingy. Polnareff hates being away from you in any way shape or form. If he can't at least see you then he'll begin to stress.

He needs anything at all to soothe the cold feeling he gets when you leave him.

This led to you giving him a piece of jewelry you never wore often enough to keep. He never takes it off. The metal is even worn from where his hands have rubbed against it so often.

This won't last him, though. He'll need you completely for himself before the uncertainty of knowing where you are and why you aren't with him drive him mad.

Once he does take you for himself, he can't deny himself all the cuddles and kisses he can give you. On your first day of being kidnapped (he likes to call it relocating you) your neck and shoulders were marked with fierce lovebites as he sat you in his lap against his broad chest.

⚔ Now that his full character has come to light, you obviously can't look at him the same.

Even if you were ready to enter a relationship with him, he ruined it. It hurts how someone you thought really cared for you would do something like this. Keeping you in his home and acting like nothing happened whenever you give him the cold shoulder.

⚔ Your defiance in whatever form it takes won't affect him for the most part. It's nothing he can't make a joke of or dismiss as part of the process as long as you're not putting yourself at risk. Like running off or trying to fight him

He won't dare lay a finger on you. The most he could do is leave a bruise by holding your arms down or pinning you if you tried taking him head on. He'll feel a great deal of shame and guilt if he ever does leave a bruise.

Expect a day of pampering and Pol kissing it better.

⚔ He's not like most yanderes when it comes to freedom and interaction.

He actually doesn't mind you going out as long as he's by your side. Talk to any of his friends when they're around, if you'd like (but not too much, don't make me jealous) ! Seeing you lonely and curled up against corners of the house far from him pain him more than you could know. Why would he do that if he knows he can handle you?

His arrogance factors into this. You may have a chance of escape by taking advantage of that.

⚔ Speaking of escape, it's even more frustrating to hatch a plan when it comes to Pol.

It sounds so easy at first. He let's you out and about, he never ties you down or threatens you, there's so much leniency.

Being so close to Polnareff blows up in your face because no one believes that the man you seemed your happiest with is capable of that. Everyone has seen you both before he claimed you. Always laughing and out with one another exploring the town. Even after being kidnapped, you still go out. Never do you have an injury that couldn't be chalked up to clumsiness.

It's like you've gone mad- why won't anyone listen?

⚔ In the end, he just wants to feel loved by you. Even if you lie to his face. It's more desirable than you blocking him out completely.

To be held, kissed, and treasured by you is all that matters to him. And he'll let you know when he's on his knees clutching your shoulders. Through a river of tears, he'll beg you to at least tell him you love him.
