[ year three ]

Yoongi knows he won’t live to watch the world burn.

He is not psychic. Hell, he’s never even been to a psychic; they’re a little too much, a little too untrustworthy. They blink up at him, owl eyed, and they tell him dastardly things he had no intention of wanting to know. Namjoon is into all of those mystical, panpsychist elements of philosophy: everything is interconnected and has a consciousness, which sounds nice until he recognizes that it means even the nastiest little beetles share a semblance of awareness and therefore that homicidal glare they send him from across the room is indeed quite frighteningly real.

Yoongi is grateful to not watch the world burn because he would have to watch you go up in flames with it. He is content to watch you here and now, chest open and rising with oxgen-fueled life, wading in the iridescent water of an infamous Busan river. 

The river swallows the land with its hungry, foaming fingers. A burnt orange sky emerges from peony pink. Somewhere a bird calls, shrill and bright. It all feels so much like dwelling inside a painting, this moment, so much so that Yoongi almost startles himself into jumping off the bank of the water.

 A grin is thrown at him from over your shoulder, and the muscles around his heart soften like candy melting in the sun.

“You coming in?” you ask, splashing water up at him from yards away. 

Golden light spills across your face and he thinks, you are the most marvelous sunrise he has ever seen. The corners of Yoongi’s lips involuntarily stretch into a smile, a sheepish one with the barest hints of teeth and a rosy glow to match. 

“Give me a minute,” he says. 

(It takes three seconds.)
