@flourchildwrites Yes! This makes total sense. The more that I thought about it, it’s easy-ish to get why Riza does not wear hers. She’d hate to wear the Ishval ones, and not wearing any medals would be a way to have people (especially criminals) underestimate her. (”Look at that pretty lady in the uniform. What’s she doing in the army?”) The soldiers and brass would know about her skills, but since most think of Mustang as an ambitious lady’s man, they probably just think of Riza as being in love with him* or having some other inexplicable bizarre devotion to him. 

So, I especially liked what you wrote about Roy. If he didn’t wear his medals, it would advertise his festering dissent. He needs to appear as loyal as possible** (and as worthless as possible.) He must hate wearing the Ishval medals as much as he hates being called “The Hero of Ishval.” But, it’s all part of his well-honed facade. He probably polishes his medals to make them more obvious.

*Of course, she is in love with him, but no one (except Bradley) would guess that her love was requited and profound.

**Of course, Bradley’s on to Mustang, too, and has been since he addressed the soldiers at the end of the war. 

Does anyone know or have a theory about why Riza Hawkeye doesn’t have (or wear?) medals on her uniform? She must have earned at least one in Ishval. What about a sharpshooting medal? Would she be allowed to refuse to wear them? What would Roy (who wears his) think about it?

@fluffmonger  I just looked at a ton of pictures of Amestrian soldiers in uniform, and you seem to have hit the nail on the head! I did find pictures of Hughes and Alex Louis Armstrong with medals, but I can’t swear that they were official art. In any case, no one below major had medals in any picture. 

I guess that, Royai shipper that I am, I saw pictures of the two of them together and thought that Riza deserved medals!
