That Night

Archie's gaze shifted from his girlfriend to the three sitting by the window. There you were, sporting your baseball jeresy that complimented your body. You laughed at something Chuck said, replying with something that made him and Reggie laugh even harder. He was curious. What had you said? What had made such a wonderful sound escape your lips? You turned your head, eyes searching for the person who's gaze burned into your side. Your eyes settled on Archie and your smile fell flat. You gave him a small nod, shifting your attention back onto your buddies.

"-kins? Archiekins?" Fingers came into view as they snapped. Archie blinked, looking back at Veronica.

"Huh? Sorry, what were you saying?" Veronica rolled her eyes, flicking her hair over her shoulder.

"What's gotten into you? You've been so... Spaced out lately." Veronica said, frown etched onto her face. Archie shook his head, offering her an apologetic smile.

"Sorry, Ronnie, my mind is still in summer mode." Archie said, resting his arms on the table. It wasn't a lie. His mind kept replaying a certain night that summer. A night where you and Archie had bonded. A night where he spilled out all his insecurities and you listened with patience. A night where he forgot about Veronica, Betty, the gangs, the drugs, football because all his attention was on you and jesus your lips were so soft. Archie licked his dry lips, missing your kiss. He could sometimes still smell your cologne in his car. It triggered the memory each time. Archie looked at Veronica and his body filled with guilt. He had cheated on her.

"What?" Veronica asked softly, a smile on her face. Archie leaned in, kissing her.

"Oh my fucking god.." Your breathy laugh got his attention in a second. You were shaking your head at Reggie who had a disappointed look on his face. Reggie abruptly left the student lounge and you quickly went after him. Archie frowned, watching you leave. He didn't catch the guilty look on Veronica's face.

"I'll go check on him." He said, mistaking her guilt for concern. Archie stood, leaving the lounge and seeing you by the water fountains, rubbing Reggie's arms. The ginger jogged over, glancing at you before placing a hand on Reggie's shoulder.

"You okay, Reg?" Archie asked. Reggie nodded, avoiding eye contact. You dropped your arms, choosing to cross them as Reggie ruffled up his locks.

"I'm gonna head home. I'll see you two tomorrow." Reggie said, a defeated tone in his voice as he walked off. You watched him go, waiting for him to be out of sight before looking at Archie. He couldn't help but smile.

"Hey.." He greeted softly, staring into your (E/C) eyes. You blew a raspberry, shifting from one foot to the other.

"How ya been?" You asked, cringing a bit. Archie chuckled, shrugging.

"Good. I, uh, I've been thinking.." Your brow rose slightly.

"About?"

"What happened that night." Archie watched you sigh and glance away.

"If you're here to say that it was a mistake, I ge-"

"What? No, no! Not at all! I don't regret it."

"Don't regret what?" Your eyes flickered to someone behind him. Archie sighed softly, spinning on his heel to face Veronica.

"I accidentally got him hooked to a video game during break, sorry." You shrugged, giving her a smile. Veronica laughed, shaking her head.

"Damn, now not only do I have to compete with football, I have to compete with video games?" She playfully sucked her teeth. Archie sent a thankful look your way but you ignored it.

"Anyway, I have baseball practice and Coach Willow will eat me alive if I'm late again. See you two later!" You winked, nodding to them before walking away. Archie watched you, mind and body yearning for your attention and affection.

"He has a nice butt." Veronica mumbled, also watching you walk off. Archie shot her a small look of disbelief before realizing that a small spark of jealousy had run through him at the thought of someone, other than him, having you or thinking about you like that.

"Come on, Archiekins." She grabbed his arm, locking her arm around his and leading him back to the student lounge.

Archie stared up at the ceiling. He needed to tell someone. He sat up, grabbing his phone and walking over to his window. Betty caught his figure in the mirror as she brushed her hair and shifted, looking at him. Archie sent her a quick text, waiting for her to get it and answer. Betty tied her hair back into a ponytail, looking down at her phone and nodding. Archie let out a sigh of relief, changing into a white shirt and jacket. He slid on his shoes and quickly went down the stairs.

"I'm gonna hang with Betty for a bit!" He called, hearing a 'be safe' in return. Archie stepped out of his house, waiting a couple of seconds. Betty emerged from her house and walked over to him.

"What's wrong?" She asked, studying his face.

"Remember during summer, when me and Ronnie had that big argument and I kind of disappeared for a few hours?" Archie watched her as they started heading down the sidewalk. Betty nodded, confusion clear in her blue eyes.

"Well, I bumped into (Y/N) (L/N) and we had a few drinks. One thing led to another and... We hooked up in my car." Archie was no stranger to car hookups during the summer. They usually brought consequences. Betty stopped in her tracks, staring at him with wide eyes.

"You did what with who?!" Her jaw dropped.

"Oh my god, Archie! Does V know?" She asked. Archie shook his head, frowning as the guilt returned.

"No and.. I feel terrible about the fact that I still want (Y/N). I want him over her." Archie confessed. Betty covered her mouth, trying to process everything.

"Arch, what the hell?!" She exclaimed. The next thing that came out of her mouth made a chill run down his spine and his mind go blank.

"Oh my god, Archie, don't you know that Sweet Pea and (Y/N) are dating?!"

HELL YEAH!
