In the second grade, the teacher decided to place Sukuna, the loudest, most disruptive boy in class, next to you—the quiet kid who always kept to themselves. You were used to being unnoticed, blending into the background with your books as your only companions. But Sukuna was impossible to ignore. He burst into the classroom each day like a force of nature, his voice louder than everyone else's combined.

At first, you tried to stay focused on your book, determined not to let his antics get to you. But every time Sukuna yelled or caused a scene, you couldn’t help but flinch. It wasn’t something you could control; it just happened, like a reflex. You thought Sukuna wouldn’t notice, that he was too wrapped up in his own world to pay attention to someone like you. But you were wrong.

One day, after yet another loud outburst, you caught Sukuna glancing at you from the corner of his eye. His expression shifted, the usual mischievous grin faltering for just a second. He didn’t say anything, but the next day, his voice was noticeably quieter. The shouting wasn’t as frequent, the chaos a little less intense.

You were surprised but didn’t dare ask why. Instead, you continued to lose yourself in your books, grateful for the unexpected peace. But then, something even stranger happened. Sukuna leaned over one afternoon, his voice so soft you almost didn’t hear him.

“What’s that book about?” he asked, his eyes fixed on the cover in your hands.

You blinked, unsure how to respond. No one had ever asked you about your books before, especially not Sukuna. After a moment, you mumbled a brief summary, expecting him to get bored and move on. But he didn’t. Instead, he nodded, a look of genuine interest crossing his face.

From then on, it became a regular thing. Sukuna would ask about whatever book you were reading, and you would tell him, slowly getting used to his presence beside you. The flinches that had once been your automatic response to his loudness began to fade, replaced by something warmer, something that felt a lot like friendship.

As the days passed, Sukuna’s protective side started to emerge. He would glare at anyone who tried to tease you or even come too close. It was as if he had decided that, out of all the things in the world, you were the one thing worth protecting. You didn’t fully understand why, but you didn’t mind it either. There was something comforting about having Sukuna by your side, even if he was still the most notorious troublemaker in school.

Then, one day, Sukuna took things a step further. During recess, he found some glue—where he got it, you had no idea—and without warning, he grabbed your hand and pressed it against his own, spreading the sticky substance between your palms.

“Now we can hold hands and be together forever,” he announced with a grin, his tone as casual as if he were talking about the weather.

You stared at him, wide-eyed, as the glue began to dry, binding your hands together. For a moment, you didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. The idea of being stuck to Sukuna, literally, for the rest of the day—or longer—was both ridiculous and strangely sweet.

The teacher wasn’t too happy when she found out, and neither were your parents when they had to deal with the aftermath of trying to unstick you two. But even as the adults scolded Sukuna for his impulsive behavior, you couldn’t help but smile a little. The memory of Sukuna’s determined expression as he declared that you should be together forever stayed with you, and somehow, you knew that no matter how much trouble he got into, Sukuna would always be by your side.

15 years later

"Sukuna, do you remember when you glued our hands together?" You laughed loudly at the memory, the sound echoing in the room.

"Girl, shut up," he muttered, a teasing grin playing on his lips. Before you could respond, he leaned in and kissed you, effectively silencing your laughter in the best way he knew how.

OUT with “nobody will love you until you love yourself” IN with “everybody deserves to be loved + it’s harder to love yourself if you’ve always felt unloveable + you do also need to do the hard work of learning how to accept love from others so that you don’t keep pushing them away”
