Summary:

Kurt has been in a friendly ten-pin bowling rivalry with his dad for 7 years, but his winning streak hits a snag when a gorgeous employee starts working at the bowling alley. Blaine has an ass that could roll a strike every time, and a terrible habit of bending over at inconvenient times. As well-meaning but hapless acquaintances conspire to push them together, will Kurt finally pluck up the courage to ask out his summer crush?

This is a big deal for me, because anyone who has read my fics in the past decade will know I am notoriously bad at finishing with any speed (really sorry about that btw.)

This is the fastest I have ever finished a fic. For real.

Possibly the ONLY time I've ever got to the end, actually. So I'm a little overwhelmed I finally ticked that box. I can do it!

Chapter preview:

The music faded. Kurt waited for Blaine to lift his head. The spell broken. He looked left and right and blinked his beautiful eyes in confusion.

“Wait… where’d everybody go?”

He tried to shift out of Kurt’s arms, but Kurt tightened his hold to keep him close.

“They’ll be back,” Kurt soothed. “I asked for a little privacy is all.”

Blaine’s head tilted suspiciously, in an act so puppy-like, Kurt wanted to boop his nose. Instead, he pressed the call button on the radio Janet gave him at the front desk, so what was said next would be heard loud and clear by Howard and cue him in.

“Privacy for what?” Blaine asked.

“So, I can ask you a question.”

There was a two second delay and the boarding above the bowling lanes lit up with warm twinkling lights. Behind them, just as Blaine had done for Kurt on their first date, there were nets of lighting all along the balcony from one end of the bowling alley to the other. The lanes themselves lit up in red and yellow, the same color as the roses Blaine gave Kurt that night.

Blaine gawped, head twisting back and forth to drink it all in. A series of flashes came from the balcony where a photographer was taking pictures. Blaine grabbed Kurt’s hand, like he needed an anchor.

“W-what’s going on? It’s not my birthday…”
