How severe was Olga's depression in the last years of her life?

Quite severe. Olga began suffering from depression during the war years when she witnessed the suffering of the wounded brought to the palace hospital from the front. Her nerves got so bad that she had to step away from first-hand nursing during operations and instead was charged with other duties relating to hospital organization and treatments of the recuperating patients. After the revolution she grew even more aware of the difficult situation of the family, which could have hardly help her, and apparently she withdrew very much into herself in the subsequent months of exile and captivity. She lost a lot of weight and soldiers as well as friends who got to see her in Tobolsk noted that she looked positively middle-aged by spring 1918. Where her sisters still managed to find good, even if very minor, things about their situation, Olga seems to have given up on everything and spent more and more time in quiet talks with her father, and in prayer.
