Birthday Boy

“Nothing?”

“Mhm,” Yoongi nods.

“You want nothing for your birthday?”

“Right.”

You drag a hand down your face and sigh. “You’re impossible.”

He could only crack a smile as he watches you pace back and forth in front of the coffee table in your oversized sleep shirt turning nothing into..well, something. The both of you had barely been out of bed when Yoongi wandered into the living room to shake the sleep off and you followed, asking him all about his special day coming up.

“It’s the one day of the year about you. You could have anything you want and-” “I have everything I want,” he interrupts. 

You sit down next to him on the plush couch. He was right. You didn’t have a logical argument against him but you really liked celebrating birthdays. Holidays in general. You liked celebrating anything. You admit all this in a loud sigh.

Yoongi can practically hear the gears in your brain trying to think of a counter opinion and he is amused by your silence until your gaze falls to the floor, effectively giving up. 

“M’kay,” you concede. Your lips unconsciously move outwards, pouting in defeat. The only sound he could hear now was the clock ticking from the wall and he hates it.

“Don’t do that,” Yoongi starts as he turns his body in your direction. He bends a pajama-clad knee behind your back and both of his arms wrap around your shoulders, fingers intertwining and resting on your bicep. You keep your arms to yourself but find yourself leaning into his chest automatically. You could honestly fall back asleep right here in his hold.

“I do have everything I want," he starts to explain his blunt answer from earlier, "I’m fortunate to be in a position to purchase anything I wish. And I have a girlfriend who, somehow, will treat me better and more special that day then she does every single day.”

Staring at the floor, your lips crept up into a smile and you were secretly wishing he would elaborate on that. 

“I bet you already got me something.” He was guessing, but not really. He knows how you are. Every year there was an argument to put the Christmas tree up earlier and earlier and you already had the members gifts planned out for the whole year. 

You push yourself up off him immediately, flashing a big grin “I wrapped it yesterday! You’re gonna love it.”

He smiles at how quick your mood improved. So much excitement for the morning. You practically bounced with enthusiasm just now and it was endearing, he couldn't deny that. “There you go. I’m gonna have a good birthday whether or not I want to with you around.”

You stare into his brown eyes and ruffle his fringe a little, still messy from sleep. He always knew what to say to ease you. You were pleased with his assessment of your celebratory attitude. “You could still give me ideas. I want the day to be great.”

He doesn't even pause before answering. “I don’t have any. I don't need any. You always come through. I could ask for nothing or ask you to wish me ‘happy birthday’ every hour this month and you would somehow make it great.”

You shake an impressed finger at him for finally contributing. “That is an excessive and great suggestion. Now you’re talking.”

He rolls his eyes and swats your finger away from his face. You both share a light laugh at his exaggerated idea before serendipity kicks in and the clock on the wall chimes pleasantly, announcing a new hour.

Your mouth widens in excitement and he catches on immediately.

“Don’t,” he deadpans, lowering his eyes on yours.

Your hands are already above your shoulders and your voice ready to raise four octaves before his warning. “Happy birthday, Yoongi!!”
