Summary

Hi, hmm, so, I'm here to talk a little about my absent, or something like that.

My last uptade was 2 weeks ago, I was studying for my Physico-Chemical test (I still not knowing the name of this class) and I went well, can't say the same about the organic or physics, but thats okay.

I still in "final month", and it's getting really overwhelming for me. My mind is getting "sick" againg, and this time the beginning was a little worst than the others, but it's starting to get better.

Idk, I wanted to uptade and I didn't have anything to post bcs I didn't have the mood to do nothing pretty/good/productive.

See you next time :)))

That moment when you arrive school and find out you have an assignment for tomorrow and need to study for a history test and read a book for that same day.

Good work us.

That moment when you check your calendar and find out you have an assignment due this Sunday for a class you keep forgetting you have…

Good work me.

GUIDE TO: EFFECTIVE STUDYING

You see this really cool study technique on tumblr, tried it, yet it’s already midnight and you still haven’t memorized the list of laws related to agriculture yet. But why? You see, the thing about techniques in studying is that it…

DOMINANT SIDE OF THE BRAIN

According to a website, left-brain dominant people are more likely to be clinical in problem solving. While right-brained people are associated with cognitive skills.

It is also said that the right hemisphere controls the left side of the body, so most right-brained are left-handed. I’m actually a lefty, and I feel like I’m more of a logical person rather than creative that’s why I decided to take a test. The results were accurate, saying I use my left-brain 75% more than the other.

Here are the qualities or functions associated in the left brain:

-     Analytical thought

-     Detail oriented

-     Perception

-     Ordered sequencing

-    Rational thinking

-     Verbal

-     Cautious

-     Planning

-     Math/Science

-     Logic

-     Right field vision

-     Right side motor skills

Right brain:

-     Intuitive

-     Holistic perception

-     Random sequencing

-     Emotional thought

-     Non-verbal

-     Adventurous

-      Impulsive

-     Creative writing/art

-     Imagination

-     Left field vision

-     Left side motor skills

  Why is this important?

It’s best to study in your own preference; if your notes or way of studying is appealing to you, then the flow would be much easier. It would be hard if your mind map for the chemistry test you’ve been studying is full of colors when in fact, just a simple list is what suits you since you are left-brained.

If your left-brained like me, simple rewriting of notes will do if you have an upcoming quiz tomorrow and you’re short in time. But if you are right-brained, add colors and illustrations to make studying better.

WAY OF LEARNING

A few years ago, I attended a seminar about learning. We had a test for us to know whether we are visual, auditory or kinesthetic learners. I looked for some similar test on Google and found this. Research says that either two of these could be more dominant.

Basically, if you are a visual learner, you’re more on pictures. You understand and remember things by sight. On our seminar, for the visual learning, we get to memorize the list of words by drawing those or things that remind them of the words. Everyone got a chance to do it, but not all found it effective. You could create flash cards and put illustrations that way you could remember it easily and have a color code – it’s just as important as drawing the words. Do your best to make your notes visually attractive.

If you’re an auditory learner like me, listening is the best way to learn. Based from my experience, if our teacher discusses a lesson and I listened very well, and we have a surprise quiz the other day, I’d be able to get a high score even without recalling at home. I don’t usually do this, but reading them aloud is a great tip to memorize fast.

Last, if you’re way of learning is kinesthetic, it’s best to be hands-on to what you’re learning. Feeling is very important. As a tactile learner, you like to take things apart and put things together, and you tend to find reasons to tinker or move around when you become bored. You may be very well coordinated and have good athletic ability. A good tip is to use computers in studying, that way you can have the sense of touch while learning. You learn best by doing, not only reading, hearing or seeing.

Upon learning what my dominant side of my brain is and my learning style, I tested different study techniques and here are a few that I tried plus my opinion:

image

POMODORO TECHNIQUE

pros:

✓  very flexible

✓  my favorite

✓ breaks don’t stress my brain too much

✓ effective

cons:

× 25 mins work turns into 25 mins break sometimes

× hard to deal with at first

× lacks discipline if not using an app

♡ use apps like Forest (paid) or Rocket Focus (free), you aren’t allowed to exit the app or else the tree you planted will die or the rocket will crash

FLASH CARDS

pros:

✓  fun to study with friends

✓ we share topics which make it quicker

✓ efficient for memorization

✓ ultimate cramming survival technique

cons:

× writing sometimes takes too long

× only effective for definitions

× not suitable for all subjects

♡ quizlet makes it all better 10/10

MIND MAPS

pros:

✓ fun to make

✓ flexible

cons:

× mostly effective for visual learners

× unorganized

♡ i only make mind maps for a certain subject since it’s required

♡ maybe the reason why i don’t like it is  because we were asked to add designs and it doesn’t fit me in terms of

♡ we also had a seminar about this

  BLANK PAGE

pros:

✓ super good for when you’re cramming

✓ you can do it in class (lol i know this is bad sorry)

cons:

× tolerates you to cram more

× not that effective

♡ get a sheet of paper then write everything you know about the topic

♡ tip: have the notes or textbook beside you in case you forget something

DISCUSSING

pros:

✓ teaching style is great

✓ if you master the lesson before teaching it to someone else, most likely it’ll be a long-term memory for you

✓ effective

cons:

× if doing it with friends you might end up doing other stuff instead

♡ it’s best to teach it to someone who doesn’t know the topic

♡ carousel technique – you take turns on discussing a subtopic

And that’s it for my guide! If you have any requests, please do message me. Reblog or like this - it means a lot. Thank you.

HAPPY  STUDYING!
