since everyone is talking about politics and eurovision and beautiful songs and their meanings and so on and so forth, i just want to say this about moldova: despite a lengthy and incredible effort by the soviet union to completely erase moldova’s ties to romania, this year, some 30 years after the fall of the soviet union, moldovans are singing in eurovision about how when they go to romania, they feel at home. this is what their song is about, so i guess the moral of the story is that people’s spirits are not easily crushed
