~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Of all things that Chan may have been expecting on Saturday morning, a knock on the door at 8am is not it. He’s just gotten out of the shower and throws on a pair of jeans to attempt to be decent (his sister Hannah would say that he’s never decent) and shuffles to the door, opening it without checking the peephole (what type of dangerous person would actually be at his door this early?).
“Hi?”
His next door neighbor, you, who owns the cute little cottage next door to his basic A-frame house, stands on his stoop, eyes wide and hair a mess. You wear cut-off shorts and a peasant top, rumpled like the rest of you.
“Is Gaeul okay?” he immediately asks at your distraught state. Your son, all of ten years old is often a frequent visitor at Chan’s when he takes to working on his car in the driveway, mowing the lawn, or cooking out on his grill. Gaeul is a bundle of questions about everything and in the six months that you and your son have lived next door, Chan’s life has grown far more colorful.
“What?” Your eyes shoot up to his.
He works on hiding the ego boost at the fact that you’ve been staring at his bare chest since he’d opened the door. He’s never been into single moms before, but he can admit (without doing a damn thing about it) that he’s into you.
“Oh. Gaeul’s fine. He had a sleepover last night and they’re going to the zoo. No, I need you.”
sequel - too many feelings
— breathe with sub ! jeongin 💭
🏷️ dom!reader, sub!jeongin, petname “baby,” safe choking (nobody’s hurt), a little bit of angst, practice safe sex everyone❕
he feels guilty for discovering this. he feels scared and disgusted while looking down at you. his hands trembled on the sides of your neck.
he can’t believe he liked choking.
you looked so hot to him with your back against the bed, but still demanding. even if he was usually on top, choking removed that control for a moment. he wanted to see you fucked out for once.
the idea that you could be breathless and still be the central force fucked with his mind.
“y/n,” he whispered, voice shaky as sweat dropped from his forehead. “no, god, i-i can’t.”
“jeongin, baby, what did i tell you?” your hands snaked up until his hair. you played with the strands by his scalp, something that always calmed him down ever so slightly. he relaxed in your hold.
you kissed his nose. “we can try. i’ll tell you if something’s up or if it’s too much.”
“no, i can’t hurt you, a-and it’s…”
“dangerous?” you finished his sentence, making him pout.
“here, i’ll teach you how to do it safely.”
jeongin’s eyes sparkle at that.
your hands trailed down his arms and you grabbed his wrists. you guided them onto the skin of your neck. his palms warmed up against your throat.
“you put your fingers here,” you said, placing them against the sides of your throat, around the points of your arteries. “when you squeeze, it should be more like pressing.”
“try it yourself.”
jeongin hesitated, but relaxed when your hands kept his wrists in place. the tension surged back in: he applied the slightest pressure on your neck. your eyes flutter shut, but you don’t struggle. he stops the moment your eyebrows furrow.
“d-does it hurt?”
you inhaled and shake your head. “you want this.”
“but i feel bad,” he retorted.
“but i feel good,” you reply. “you can’t hurt me.”
you prompted him to try again. the pressure builds slower and his gentle hands meld onto your neck as if he was made to hold it.
your voice rumbled. he caught a moan in your throat. you’re safe, you still have the reigns and the control. jeongin stopped before you could lose it.
the moment your troubled expression softened with a gasp of air, his entire body shook. jeongin rutted his lower half against yours instinctively, making you smile.
you run a hand through his hair again. “we can research more about this later. good job.”
the breathless giggle, although tired and hoarse, was reassuring, beautiful, menacing.
it’s exactly what he wanted.
“can…you do it to me next?”
Tan,
a lot of this series has brought me many amazing things. truly. i know you know some of them and i won't spare those details and all. especially again cause i speak on it when i can but i just want to say thank you for being such an amazing author and for writing things that are challenging. i hate that we have similar experiences in things and such, but also thankful as i can really connect with a character and find myself in the story. i am incredibly sad this is the end for now but excited to see more of the stories you will create in the future.
Chan has always been an athlete, even from a young age. Running around. Running to his destinations. Running away from his own problems. Choose any of the options.
Chan has always been an athlete, even from a young age. Running around. Running to his destinations. Running away from his own problems. Choose any of the options.
Chan ran with his heart to yours when Soyeon broke up with you. He ran to you when you had that bike accident a year ago and he saw you lying on the street from the kitchen window. He ran to your room whenever he heard you cry because of a phone call with your father again.
But at some point he stopped running. He felt his feet getting heavier, having all the weights attached to their ankles. His boots dragging him over the ground. The hard, icy ground.
And even one point further, he started taking steps in the wrong direction. He's been running again but away from you instead.
It’s ironic, isn’t it?
Chan feels like he’s just won the lottery and was diagnosed with a deadly disease a day after.
Chan feels like he’s finally able to catch that plane and it crashes before even touching the clouds.
Chan feels like he’s finally managed to fall asleep, beating his insomnia, just for him to fall into a slumber of nightmares and getting eaten alive by the demons of sleep paralysis.
You’re all he’s ever wanted and still he didn’t take his chance – no, correction, the thousands, millions and billion chances he has had. He had just let them slip. One after another.
Chan stopped running a long time ago.
But for some reason, there’s some tiny bit of hope. It’s now that he’s able to put on those running shoes again – hoping it’s not too late when he knows it already is. It had already been too late yesterday, a month ago, even half a year ago.
However, he found that force, that fuel inside him again. It’s always been there, just hiding deep inside and these past days have made him find hope again.
Chan listens to his heart for once and turns the parts of his brain off, shuts them silent – these fractions that always hold him back, tell him to choose the morally right option.
But sometimes we have to do small morally wrong things to help each other in the long run. The long run on which track he’s still glued to.
Isn’t it ironic? That he’s now following Minho’s attitude of life after all?
♡
A knock on the door can set off lots of things.
A rush of euphoria when a package arrives that you’ve been waiting for for too long. A sparkle of excitement when you hope it’s your friend visiting your apartment. A glance of confusion when it’s someone unannounced. A spiral of angst when you’re expecting the worst.
Or an avalanche of all the above.
That’s what you’re experiencing when you hear Chan in front of your bedroom door.
“Y/N? Are you okay?” He asks. His voice is low and raspy. He’s trying to not wake up Tzuyu apparently.
But you don’t answer. You get up from the mattress, though.
Chan is standing in front of the wooden barrier cutting you off from him. You can definitely hear his breathing – hasty and gasping for oxygen – maybe even some hints of his heartbeat – quick and accelerated.
“What is it?”
You witness his lungs gripping for air. He sounds destroyed. Absolutely defeated. Which doesn’t make sense considering the hope that has grown inside him since he saw that text message.
“A-Are you okay?”
Stepping outside now, you’re standing in front of him in the upstairs corridor.
“Why do you of all people care?”
Chan can’t believe his ears. He feels his breath hitch when listening to your accusation.
He does care. Chan simply has had problems showing it.
“C-Can we talk maybe?”
His voice is even quieter now, almost inaudible and you feel your heart break a little. You don’t want this either. Any of this digging around in the darkness. You’ve wanted to be with him for ages now but it seems as if it’s too late.
“Okay. Let’s go outside.”
Hope again. A tiny bit of hope.
And the sun is already up when you flaunter to the vacation home’s garden. The fruit trees are prettily glowing in the morning light, tinted in a pretty shade of orange and yellow.
You’ve missed this. Coming here and having some time to relax – your busy head thanks you for it, as you allow your body to breathe again. Actually, breathe again and feel the air fill your lungs fully. Usually, whenever you gasp for oxygen it seems as if it doesn’t quite reach all parts of your body.
“We need to talk, Y/N.”
Silence for a minute. You hear a bird chirping in the distance, greeting the morning sun.
“About what exactly?” Your voice is loud. Clear. Full of anger.
You’re making this harder than it is, you're aware of that. But the way Chan has behaved through your whole intimate encounter tells you all you need to know. He’s only ever seen you as some benefit, maybe a friend attached to that but that used to be a long time ago. It’s as if you’re playing chess with a stranger, contemplating your next move even though it doesn’t matter anymore.
You’ve given up, too. You’re in love with Chan, yes. At least you think so. You’ve thought so for a long time. And then… life happened. Every day you keep wondering if things had turned out differently, if you just fought for it. The both of you.
“Why are you so mad at me, Y/N?”
That’s the spark.
Chan looks as if he’s given up, too. As if he just wants to make the best out of the situation. But what if you figure things out? What will your future look like? If you can’t even communicate the simplest things – how are you supposed to grow together?
“Because we both fucked this up, okay?!”
You’re done now. You’re laying all the cards on the table, all the triumphs you’ve had still hiding up your sleeve. It doesn’t matter anymore. All or nothing.
“It’s not only me, Chan! You should have fought for us in the first place– why THE FUCK do you always have to be so respectful?! You’re a fucking COWARD!”
And that’s the spark turning into a wildfire.
“You dumped me over the FUCKING PHONE! And one of your male friends or whoever basically threatened me after I called again,” he shouts at you.
Finally. You’re at least communicating. Maybe not in the most healthy way. Maybe not in the most helpful way either, but you’re talking.
“I was shit faced– I can’t remember the details I said to you that night– you’ve been leading me on and haven’t even called once when I was at home for Christmas.”
It’s like a waterfall and an avalanche combined. You’re running free and so is he.
“Because I have a life too, Y/N, I was at my family’s. Not everything is about you.” Touché. “Besides that– you’ve led me on as well, I was looking for something serious from the beginning.”
He was. You ignored it though. Maybe not on purpose but you remember the kiss after your first time together. However, that’s not enough obvious hints for a stubborn idiot like you.
“Am I supposed to smell what you want?! You should have told me!”
“And lose you because of a crush?”
A crush.
A crush?
He’s had a crush on you back then? Right from the beginning? Is that what he’s saying?
Who on earth suggests a friends with benefits situation if they already had feelings for the other person in the beginning?!
It seems as if you’re not the only idiot around here.
Your thoughts are running in circles now, captivating your inner monologues and abilities to think freely. You’re doomed. This whole situation has been from the beginning.
Why would he himself suggest that?
It would be a different situation if he fell in love over time with you. But offering such an agreement when he knows it’s destined to fail?
There’s only one reason someone would imprison themselves in such stupidity.
Love. And the endless hope that comes with it.
Pushing that idea further, you provoke him with your next question.
“Well– if I’m just a crush to you, why are you complaining this much then?”
You’re not. You’ve never been. But Chan doesn’t want to seem even dumber than he already is.
“Why would it matter? Yes, I am in love with you but– You’ve got a boyfriend anyway,” he says.
Chan is both still holding onto that idea he has about you and Minho but at the same time it’s the perfect occasion to get some reaction out of you, hopefully making you contradict. Getting a simple reaction out of you – just like you did with your previous question. You’re both using the same weapons here.
But little does he realise he just confessed to you. It slipped out his mouth as if it’s the most obvious sentence ever. As if he’s said it a thousand times before. Well, he did – in his mind, but not out loud.
Whereas, it takes everything within you not to scream. Did he really just say that? He’s in love with you? After all this time?
“I– what?” Your words come out way quieter than you would have liked, drowned out by a rustling sound in the distance – similar to wheels grazing over the asphalt.
“You guys are already up?” Felix's deep voice echoes to where you and Chan are still standing, bodies in a mode of freeze. The freckled boy walks around the corner next, joining you in the garden.
“We’re currently bringing all the stuff outside and cleaning the rest of the apartment, they told us to leave the keys in the kitchen, right?” Tzuyu is gathered around now too, getting a bit closer to you.
The scene is destroyed. Partly, you feel relieved to get a break from the heated discussion but on the other hand you haven’t come far with it.
“What time is it?” Chan asks, taking a deep breath and his hands find their way to his hips, an attempt to calm down his nerves. He really needs some type of break now. The fact he hasn’t slept all night isn’t new to Chan, but the argument with you has stolen all the remaining energy from him.
The four of you walk around the house again, approaching the car that’s already a bit packed. Towers of stuff are piling up on one another – unfortunately, your mother gave you a long list of shit to buy on vacation. Now you’ll be cramped inside the mini van with hundreds of bags filled with fruits, vegetables and spices.
“It’s about 8:30,” Felix says, while hoisting his suitcase into the trunk. Tzuyu helps him a bit, before her own bag follows and gets placed on top of the first one, leaving a bit of space for the rest of the luggage.
“Shit,” Chan curses, realizing now you’ve lost the total track of time.
Tzuyu immediately senses the tension but she doesn’t want to ask any further, it wouldn’t fit the situation and crosses too many boundaries.
“I can drive if you don’t want to, Chan, in case you haven’t slept that much,” she offers instead, her warm smile brightening up the mood or at least that’s what Tzuyu’s is trying to achieve.
And that’s what you all agree on.
☽
The atmosphere is beyond perfect – as scenery of completeness. Your dearest friends are around, having conversations with your mother and stepfather, while he’s preparing the food with none other than Chan.
Sure, your friends are all adorable and getting along with your parents but you can’t avoid the idea he’s their favourite one. Which is quite annoying or making nothing easier here because Chan and you have been ignoring each other since the incident this morning.
Luckily, you took a nap while driving but you’re sure he hasn’t even closed a single eye up until now. That’s why it surprises you where he’s getting all the energy from, running around the house and laughing along with your mother and friends.
Right, your friends. Tzuyu tried talking to you earlier, discreetly asking what happened but you promised her to tell her about it later. Now is definitely neither the time nor place to discuss such things.
He said he loves you.
As in– he's in love with you?
And you are, too.
You’re not denying, contemplating or considering it anymore. When the words fell from his lips it felt like everything you’ve ever been waiting for.
You can’t believe it – you’re finally close, so close, of getting a taste of your long awaited dreams and now failure is in sight solely because there’s no time for discussion?!
On the inside, you’re both hyperventilating on anxiety and giggling joyfully like a teenager getting asked on a date by their crush. Well, it is similar. Your body is ruled by both angst and relief.
You’ll have to lay it aside for now.
It’s only this dinner and Tzuyu’s little party after, you can do it, you tell yourself impatiently.
☽
A few wines into the night, while you're busy in the kitchen, cleaning all the dishes, your mother approaches you, confirming your assumptions.
“Chris is such a kind boy, why aren’t you dating him?” She asks out of the blue, leaving you a bit dumbfounded. Even though the wounds are mostly healed, it still cuts you where it hurts the most but she doesn’t know that.
“I-I don't know,” you stutter, unable to say anything else.
“Have you seen the way he looks at you, darling? Not even your stepfather looks at me like that,” she jokes.
You want to respond, even though you have no idea what exactly, your thoughts are all over the place. And faster than you're able to realise, your mum has left the kitchen and the thoughts stay in your head.
But the cycle of incapability gets disrupted when someone enters the kitchen and from the way your back is facing the door, you’re unable to notice who it is.
Please don’t let it be Chan, please, anyone else but him, you pray.
And, well, let’s say your prayers have been heard but after turning around, the person who you've least expected to be here, stands in front of you.
“What are you doing here?” You ask him, no greeting from your side being offered.
“Visiting my daughter,” he replies, no shame from his side.
“Yeah, as if,” you scoff, ”you’ve never cared before. Why are you here now?”
“I am sponsoring your studies after all, so I am allowed to visit you whenever I want,” he says, his voice getting a bit louder now. You scoff. Sponsoring. He’s your biological father, he’s obliged to pay.
“First of all– this doesn’t give you permission to come here uninvited. Second of all, that explains why you’ve visited me maybe twice the past five years, I guess,” you let out, the volume of your voice is increasing now too, after all, you’ve learnt it from him.
“Let’s have a drink first maybe and you can introduce me to your friends, hm?” He suggests.
“You can come here any other time– why do you decide to show up when I have friends over and they’re getting along with mum and dad?”
Now it’s your time to take revenge, to get back at him – nothing else has ever worked for cases like this better than calling your stepfather ‘dad’ in front of your biological father. It has always annoyed him, even when you were younger.
You can still recall the day – your highschool graduation, both men standing there as you decided to call your mother’s now husband dad for the first time. A joyful laughter on one face, a horrific shudder on the other.
Still, now he decides to ignore it and goes on with his initial plan, “Stop acting like a child and spend some time with your actual dad.”
You can feel your heartbeat running faster, as if it’s trying to win a marathon. Dizziness blinds your vision and you’re soon realising you're at the verge of jumping headfirst into a swimming pool filled with liquid anxiety.
It’s the same again – it reminds you of all the times he’s raised his voice at you, raised his voice at your mother when the smallest inconveniences happened.
A happy day spent by the sea turned into a nightmare when he shouted at you for splashing dirty water on his book when you were two years old.
A well-balanced day spent playing with your dolls as he shouted at you for annoying him, poor little Y/N just wanting to play together.
A completely normal day spent drawing in your book just for him to announce a divorce out of the blue – confessing to be in an additional relationship with another woman that wasn’t your mother.
A spiral. A waterfall. An avalanche. All forces of nature combined, taking over your mind completely.
In the corner of your eye you witness his lips parting, preparing to raise his voice at you, his eyebrows scrunched and his fists balled.
Suddenly, you’re two years again. Suddenly, you’re four years again. Suddenly, you’re six years again.
“She told you she doesn’t want to,” words fill the room coming from a third person.
And there he is. The person who’s always saved you. The only man in this world who could make you believe in their species again, the only one you’ve ever trusted completely.
Chan stands right behind your father, arms crossed in front of his chest. His piercing gaze is darting the latter into the wall, but he does his best to hide it.
“And you are?” Your father responds, not even paying attention to you anymore.
“Chris, a friend of Y/N. She’s asked you to leave, maybe call her first next time before showing up.”
The older man just scoffs under his breath, as he turns around and leaves the kitchen. In the distance you can hear your mother murmur something, telling him to get out of the house.
☽
You were able to calm down from the storm even though there has still been no spare time to talk to Chan about the situation between the both of you. There won’t be any free time soon either, as you’re all on your way to Tzuyu’s restaurant – pre-partying for the opening ceremony tomorrow.
All gathered around, your friends from college you brought with you as well as Tzuyu’s closest ones from highschool, you’re sitting around the huge table in the middle of the room – sharing countless bottles of beer, soju and wine.
It has always been weird to summon different friends of different groups together but it seems to work. Wooyoung and Felix instantly have gotten along since the beginning – sharing a huge interest in dancing. They’re sitting together now, showing each other videos of their performances.
You take a mental note to visit Felix’s dancing classes more often – until you get reminded of who teaches them.
Lee Minho.
The whole Minho situation doesn’t sit right with you. Sure, you’re in contact and closer than ever. But you feel as if there’s still something hiding and you’re aware he still has feelings for you. It breaks your heart, it really does. Hopefully, you’ll have the chance to sort things out once you’re back.
“What about a round of never have I ever?” Lisa suggests.
“So, another game you’re really bad at?” Felix teases her and the others join his laughter.
Lisa scoffs, “At least I’m getting shitfaced whereas you’ll stay sober, innocent little boy.”
She knows exactly what she’s doing here. It’s always been one of her favourite hobbies – poking Felix’s side and waiting until he snaps which happens quicker than expected.
“Well, we shall see, right?”
That’s how you find yourself with a new beer bottle again, Felix’s glass filled to the brim with wine and Yunho, who’s sitting next to you, grabs his beverage of choice – soju with honey lemonade, just like he used to drink back in the highschool days. His adorableness makes you chuckle.
“Oh, I’m gonna start,” Yeosang announces, “never have I ever had a threesome.”
When your eyes hover around you see three people drinking – a girl from school named Yuqi that you have never been close with, Vicky and Felix. The latter isn’t news to you but you’ll try to remind yourself to ask Vicky for some spicy details later.
“Alright,” Yuqi continues, “never have I ever sneaked out at night when I was a minor.”
Everyone complains about the lame questions, as you see everyone drinking except for Chan – not surprising, of course he’s always been a man of high moral standards.
That’s how the evening goes on, funny stories are getting thrown around, making you giggle until your stomach hurts. From time to time, you catch Chan looking your way from the opposite direction, his eyes growing intensely dark whenever you either drink after a sexual question or when Yunho gets a bit too close to you for his liking.
What you don’t see is how Chan needs every strength within him, by now already balling his hands into fists under the table. But he’s a man of high moral standards, isn’t he?
“Never have I ever,” Vicky speaks, “been in love with my friends with benefits.”
Is your friend fucking insane?!
Well, partly yes. But that’s not news. You don’t think it was her intention to expose you in front of the others – after all the sentence wasn’t ‘never have I, Y/N, been in love with my friends with benefits, Bang Chan’ but you still feel your heart racing for odd reasons.
Also, it’s not news for most of your friends here either – Tzuyu knows, Wooyoung and Yunho do and you reckon Felix and Vicky herself might as well.
So you drink. And it’s in this moment that Chan and your gazes meet, gluing onto each other just like his lips to his beer bottle.
“Our tough Y/N fell in love with a friend?” Jiho asks now out of the blue.
You ignore her. It’s always been best to just ignore that girl.
“Y/N, what about your ‘I’ll never fall in love again’ after things ended with your ex in the last year before graduation?”
You both have always been in a kind of rival friendship so it doesn’t confuse you that she’s teasing you with some statement you made at the age of seventeen nor does it surprise you that she's been suspiciously close to Chan this whole night. She must have witnessed the tension between the blonde and you. By now you’re sure everyone has.
“Well, things can change,” is all you say. You save your little speech about your ex girlfriend since it doesn’t matter anyway. This conversation is about you falling in love with your best friend with benefits, Bang Chan.
Your best friend that’s laughing a little too much at Jiho’s jokes and your best friend that’s piercing you into the wall behind you with his gaze whenever he gets jealous of the same approaches Yunho tries with you.
It’s ironic, isn’t it?
“Let’s just continue,” Tzuyu tries to somehow change the subject, successfully.
Another one of your school friends has an idea for a question.
“Never have I ever slept with someone else while I was in a relationship,” Mary asks and some of the boys cringe at her choice, except for your male friends. These other guys have always been walking red flags and you’re once again glad you escaped this shitty small town some years ago.
Chan doesn‘t take his eyes off of you, as he is basically staring a hole into your head. You don’t drink. Not even a sip of your beer. He isn’t drinking either but it doesn’t surprise you.
“Interesting,” Chan mumbles to himself but you can’t hear him, you’re barely able to see the outline of his lips and aren’t capable of reading his mouthed word due to the darkness in the corner he’s sitting in.
“Cheating is the most disgusting thing you can do to a person,” Vicky interferes now and you remember what she’s told you once about her last relationship.
“It is,” you agree.
The conversation is only between the both of you, but still audible for Chan to listen to every word of it by reading your lips since his eyes are constantly glued on them anyway – and you’re sitting exactly underneath the ceiling lights. That’s all he needs to know. It’s just a matter of time that he will make you confess and end this ongoing fight, this useless, ludicrous fight that has been wasting more than half a year of your lifetime.
“It’s my turn,” Tzuyu says. Your best friend knows you’ll probably punch her throat for what she’ll do next. But she can’t resist anymore, can’t stand this tense atmosphere from an outside perspective and after all she cares for both Chan and you.
“Never have I ever been in love with someone who’s in this room right now.”
Chan is taking a sip. Obviously. You wish you could capture Jiho’s face with your camera. Her expression alone is enough entertainment for the next two weeks. You don’t want to feel malicious joy but you do. Oh, how you do.
Felix is taking a sip which surprises you.
Until you see Vicky aligning her lips with her wine glass and it all makes sense now. That much about keeping everything a secret.
It seems as if it’s the night of plot twists after all.
You let some beer float down your throat. Obviously. Chan’s eyes are on yours as you keep looking in his direction. He chuckles. It’s just a small smirk. But it’s there.
Yunho drinks. Wooyoung rolls his eyes and it seems as if you’ve missed a few episodes. You wonder if Yunho’s shot is dedicated to you or Tzuyu. But then you feel his eyes on yours and you wonder if the poor boy thinks you took a sip because of him.
It all makes sense now. You wouldn’t ever accuse Wooyoung of having an evil plan back then when he answered Chan’s phone call. However, he’s been both in a similar situation as you and he’s Yunho’s best friend after all. Something tells you there might be a small chance he wanted to play cupid for you.
You’re by now deeply occupied by a spiral of thoughts, zoning out as your eyes are fixated on the glass bottle in front of you, until the slightest touch on your lower arm startles you.
“Are you okay?” Yunho asks and you instantly fake a smile on your face.
“Yes, don’t worry.”
Some time passes and the rounds of questions continue, until he speaks again, obviously severely intoxicated by now. Yunho would never admit this sentence in a sober state.
“I drank because of you, Y/N. The question about being in love with someone who’s in this room.”
Fuck. You should have known. Deep down, you always have.
“Yunho…”
“You don’t have to say anything. I-I was just thinking that maybe you drank b-because of me, too.”
Your heart sinks to your stomach. You feel awful. Horrible. Empathetic. He’s one of the purest souls.
“I’m sorry– I drank because of someone else.”
Yunho closes his eyes as he simultaneously takes a deep breath or rather suppresses a sigh.
“Yeah. I should have known. It’s still Chan, isn’t it?”
You’re only able to nod. It’s not inside you. You can’t break another guy’s heart again even though you seem to be very unintentionally skilled at it.
“I’m so sorry, Yunho…”
He pulls you into a hug, unexpectedly.
“Hey, dear, don’t worry, yeah? Just promise me two things, okay?”
You look at him with big eyes, “What is it?”
Chan’s gaze is on you, exactly where your Yunho’s and your body connects. But you don’t see it since you’re lost in the conversation with your childhood friend.
“First, you don’t leave our hometown without confessing already. That dude likes you back. It’s so obvious that it’s painful.”
You chuckle, feeling your cheeks heat up by fluster.
“Second,” he starts again, “if he ever hurts you, you tell me and Wooyoung, yeah?”
You embrace him tighter and giggle again, “He won’t. He’s not a bad guy, I’m sure. I’ve never trusted anyone as much as him.”
Speaking of bad guys – that’s when the front door of Tzuyu’s restaurant flies open.
“I guess my invitation got lost in the mail, Tzuyu?”
That voice.
That tone.
That raspy sound, those provoking words.
You don’t even have to look towards the entrance when you witness your best friend’s tense expression and feel the way Yunho pulls you closer to him as if he’s trying to protect you.
“You guys still have some beer?” He scoffs, getting closer to your little gathering. “That brand? I’ve told you a thousand times to not buy that shit.”
He sits down next to Chan. Your glimpses still haven’t crossed each other.
Zoned out. Losing focus. Everything at once.
You can hear it in his voice. The pills are speaking for him. You’ve always been the only one who’s known and you wonder if the others witness that he’s on drugs again.
“Dude, are you drunk already?“ Yeosang asks but he just shushes him away.
“Tzuyu, it’s very pretty here, good job,” he says from across the table, cutting off the silence he’s brought with him.
“What do you want here?” She dares to counter, shooting him an intense glare.
“I wanna celebrate your success. Just like all our other friends.”
“You’re not invited, dude,” Wooyoung enters the conversation, needing everything in his strength to hold back.
Wooyoung knows. Yunho knows. Tzuyu knows.
Felix might reckon. Lisa might reckon. Vicky will probably reckon. Chan definitely reckons already. You can’t tell though since you’re not looking his way, after all he’s now seated exactly next to him.
The others are still so unsuspecting after all these years.
Until you see Mary shaking, quivering in fear when she looks his way.
Her too?
You’ve never known and you’ve never shared that thing with anyone else beside your little closer circle of friends. You’ve told Jiho though, who just victim blamed you back then and you’re sure she would still do it tonight.
“Y/N.”
The worst sound your ears have ever had to witness is creeping back into your head again. The pictures are running free but you know you can stop them. You’ve been through this specific situation a thousand times in your mind before. You’ve had enough sessions of therapy preparing you for this exact encounter.
It’s not real. He can’t hurt you.
“What?”
Your voice is quiet but confident. Yunho loosens the grip around your body once he’s sure you feel self-assured.
“Nice to see you, I didn’t know you’re back in town with all your new friends.”
He’s mocking you. After all, he’s never taken you seriously – neither when you were friends, neither during your relationship and neither after he ended things with you.
“Just do all of us a favour and stop it.”
Silence reigns over the room now and the tension is so thick you could cut it with a knife.
Until Jiho speaks, adding the tiny feather on top of a tower of rocks that’s supposed to let everything collapse. “Y/N, are you still not over him?”
“You’re still in love with me, baby?” Your ex adds, laughing your way.
“Just shut the fuck up, yeah? Both of you, I know exactly who you are and what fucking harm you caused– you should be glad I’ll hold myself back here since were in a group.”
Chan’s words are loud, drowning out every doubtful thought.
Jiho chuckles, “Aww, her little boyfriend is protecting her. Just like Yunho. Not surprising when it comes to a slut like her, no wonder your ex did what–“
“LEAVE. MY. FUCKING. RESTAURANT.”
Tzuyu is furious, taking huge steps towards Jiho and your ex, practically dragging them out of the venue as Chan and Wooyoung come to help her.
You’re still shaking in fear but Yunho is there. Felix and Vicky are there too, as Lisa brings you a glass of water, softly petting your head.
It’s over now. He’s gone. They can’t do anything to you.
☽
The award for experiencing a whole year of dramatic incidents within a day goes to none other than Y/L/N Y/N today.
You’re glad you’re finally back at your parent’s house and you’re even happier that the little inconvenience didn’t ruin the whole night.
Tzuyu isn’t mad at you. She reassured you what felt like a thousand time, making sure she knows how proud of you she is for standing your ground. Two years ago, you haven’t been able to do so and you can finally see some progress which grants you lots of confidence.
The evening went further for a few hours and you successfully got rid of all the anxious thoughts thanks to the help of your friends.
Now back in your parents’ kitchen, Vicky and Felix have already gone to sleep (or whatever they are doing in the guest room), leaving Lisa, Chan and you alone sitting at the round table. What a déja-vu.
“Are you sure you’re fine?” Lisa asks for the nth time tonight.
“I really am. Tonight showed me that I’m stronger than I thought.”
“I’m so proud of you, babe,” she says, pulling you into a hug and you feel a wave of alcohol scent hitting you. “I enjoyed the evening. Tzuyu’s very kind, too.”
“Hm, she is. She’s a good friend. All of you guys are,” you say, feeling a tear pricking on your lower lash line. Gosh, alcohol always makes you so emotional. It’s definitely all the beer you had, not the fact the situation itself is both overwhelming and comforting.
“And Chan and Y/N,” Lisa begins again, directing her head towards him and then to you, “please finally confess to each other, I can’t do this anymore. It was painful to watch. We all know you guys fucked in the vacation house anyway– god, Y/N, why are you so loud?!”
Blood rushes up your face, heating your whole head up as Chan tries to suppress a chuckle.
“We should bring you to bed, Lisa.”
Her eyes are practically shutting close by themselves now and it’s just a matter of time that she will fall asleep in the kitchen, probably hitting her face on the wooden surface in front of her.
“Okay, mum and dad.”
Once Chan and you have made sure she’s alright, you get back to the previous room, chugging down gallons of water to prevent a hangover and to sober up a bit.
“I’m proud of you, too, Y/N. So fucking proud.”
You feel your face heating up once again, comfort and warmth spreading through your whole body at his compliment.
“What was that thing with Yunho though?”
“Ah, that’s your introduction for the sequel of our heated discussion from this morning?”
“It’s not a sequel if there wasn’t an actual ending, you know.”
His demeanour has changed within seconds which tells you you’re back entering the argument the two of you have been pushing away for too long.
“I told him that I like you. There’s nothing going on between him and me.”
You’re so calm. Whereas Chan collects every power inside him not to get overwhelmed by his own temper again. He's such a calm man but you manage to allow him to show his full emotions, finally ignoring the high morals he’s been hiding behind since forever.
“And Minho? Making me believe you’re in a relationship with him? What about that?”
You're truly playing with all the cards laying visible on the table now.
“What? I’ve never said that!” It’s time to finally come clear. This has been nagging you the wrong way since the beginning of the vacation – you still don’t know where he has gotten the idea from. You’ve never claimed to be dating Minho. And you don’t think any of your friends said something like this either – all of them know it’s been Chan all along and you’ve been just too much of a coward to admit it.
Unless…
Minho himself lied to Chan. But that’s too fucked up. He’s your friend. He would never do that. Besides that, it doesn’t matter for you anymore – you want to be with Chan but the scars are visible in the blonde’s expression. He’s severely insecure about that idea. So, it’s your duty now to finally tell the whole truth.
“Minho and I have never been a couple and never will be. Minho and I used to be what you and I were never supposed to be. Minho was my friend with benefits. You’ve always been a lover to me. Nothing less.”
Chan blinks once. He blinks twice. He grips the counter for better balance. Chan looks back to you now.
“And you decide to tell me all of this just now?!”
You scoff, crossing your arms in front of your chest, clicking your tongue as you tilt your head a bit.
“Well you could have just asked?! How about that?!”
There are no words to describe what Chan is feeling right now. He feels utterly stupid for believing this lie for so long. He feels utterly stupid that he didn’t just ask you, completely drowned in his own insecurities. He feels utterly stupid that he didn’t realise earlier when he’s witnessed you looking at him the way you always do.
But it’s both of your fault, after all. It’s useless to discuss who’s the guiltiest here. However, Chan feels his body getting drenched in anger, hope, disappointment and relief.
“Don’t tell me what to do– especially when you’re the one to say this– you’re always a coward about speaking up when it comes to your feelings.”
It’s out now. It’s so obvious and your other friends have told you this to your face before but Chan has never had the guts to tell you until now.
“Do you need a mirror?! That’s exactly what you are like!”
Well, you are absolutely correct with this. It’s a bit debatable if you had to raise your voice at him but he’s not necessarily quiet either. You both are basically that Spiderman meme pointing at the doppelgänger.
You’re so similar after all.
“I can’t believe I’m in love with someone who can’t even communicate the simplest things.”
He’s said it again. He’s in love with you.
“And I can’t believe I’m in love with someone who can’t have a normal conversation.”
You said it. Finally.
“So we can’t even confess to each other without shouting– what is this?!”
You scoff, taking a few steps towards him until your nose is almost touching his, your heavy breath lingering on his skin.
“Chan, just shut the fuck up and kiss me already.”
The words echo in his ears and they reawake the moment you both had shared your first kiss what was supposed to be a stupid game of truth or dare.
“No, not like this.”
It’s all a big déja–vu and you’re not sure if he’s playing with you, trying to get into your mind, under your skin, like he always does. You wouldn’t be mad at him. After all, you deserve a little teasing, a little mind game – it’s what you’ve been doing to each other for more than half a year now anyway.
Chan turns away, heading towards the door that leads to the corridor. He chuckles to himself, before he turns around again and in the blink of an eye you’re captured between the kitchen counter and his firm body.
His lips crash onto yours and at the same time he makes you forget how to breathe but somehow he’s the oxygen you need in order to survive.
And there are sparks. There are stars, there is glitter, there’s everything.
“Hm, you meant something like this?” You quote his words from the specific night almost a year ago.
“I’m gonna show you exactly what I mean, angel.”
Your ass is pressing against the counter now, as Chan hastily catches your lips with his own again. This time, the kiss is deepening, growing in passion and sensuality. It feels like tiny thousand butterflies are dancing on your tongue, just to wander down, being welcomed in your stomach.
You’ve always wondered how Chan does it – occupying your full mind with the simplest touches but you come to realisation now. It’s the sensitivity he adds. The sensitivity your whole body and soul are granted with, whenever his fingers delightfully hover over your skin, setting a million sparkles free.
Just like now, as his mouth is still attached to yours, you can take in the moment completely, when Chan guardedly pins a strand of your hair behind your ear while simultaneously making you part your lips. His tongue slips inside your mouth in an instant, colliding with your own.
Saliva mixes together while you easily find a synchronizing rhythm, bodies connected like magnets. You wish you could stay like this forever, have him guide you through the movements of his kisses, as you fully give in. But in the meantime you crave more, you crave everything there is.
“I only want you, Y/N.”
He disconnects his lips from yours again, looking into your eyes. Chan’s own are filled with desire, with lust, with impatience. He knows he won’t be able to hold back any longer. Not when you’re staring back at him like this, taking his clothes off with your glimpses.
“Are you sure about that? Not your girl from that night at the beach?”
You don’t even know why you’re bringing up that girl again. She’s never mattered and you know Chan just did that to rile you up, waiting for you to snap.
“No– fuck, don’t even remember what her name was.” Kisses on your cheeks. Kisses on your neck. Kisses on your collar bones. “Why would I want anyone else other than you? Have you seen yourself? You are perfect.”
Your lips are sticking together as if the saliva is working as a glue, holding you together how it’s meant to be. His tongue dances together with yours, as Chan grips your hips, pulling you closer to him.
“I only want you too, Channie.”
That fucking nickname. He could cum in his pants like a stupid teenager at the sound.
“Are you sure about that?” He imitates you. “Not any of your–“
You cut him off with a rough kiss, biting his lower lip in the process and you feel him moan into your mouth at the stinging sensation.
“You already know the answer, baby. I’m all yours, okay? I’ve always been.”
He gives you a mischievous smirk, before he tightens the grip around your waist, hovering you on top of the kitchen counter. It’s as if this specific surface no matter which house you are in seems to be your favourite place to allow Chan to take care of your body.
“Hm, then I should claim you as mine, shouldn’t I? Let the whole world see who you belong to, angel.”
His lips are attached to your neck again, as he adds rough bites and kisses now, making sure to leave his personal signature there. Chan doesn’t care anymore that whatever you label the thing between you will be busted tomorrow, once both your family and friends will see the memories of tonight.
“Please– make me yours, Channie.”
That’s exactly the sign he needs, as he already makes his way south, his lips colliding with your collar bones again. He slips his hands under your shirt, stroking the soft skin of your belly – until his fingers wander up.
“Can you promise to be a good girl then, hm? No teasing for once. No playing games anymore.”
He’s cupping your breasts through your bra now, roughly squeezing them, before he pulls the fabric over your head.
“Fuck– I wanted to make love to you last night and I fucking regret that I didn’t.”
“That’s exactly what I was hoping for,” you answer, as you unclip the remaining clothing that covers your upper body. At the sight of your tits now on full display, Chan can’t hold back but gasp, his jaw almost dropping to the floor as if it’s the first time he’s seeing you naked.
But for Chan it has always felt like that – every intimate moment has felt like the first one, has felt better than the last and felt perfect with you.
His kisses travel towards your breasts, before his tongue sensually circles around one of your nipples, his fingers busy playing with the other one. You let out a soft moan but decide to drown it out with the palm of your hand when you get reminded that you’re in the kitchen.
He hums against your skin, as he simultaneously brings his free hand between your legs, wandering upwards until they’re grazing over your covert mound. Your breath hitches and instinctively you grab Chan’s hair, guiding him south.
“Eager, are we?”
“Channie– I need you,” you confess, looking at him with big doll eyes.
“Oh, so we’re begging now? Well, I guess I should follow my princess’ order then.”
A few seconds later, he has stripped you off of your jeans, leaving you only in your panties – very much soaked panties.
“All mine, yeah? All this because of me?”
You hastily nod, presenting him your throbbing but still covered pussy and Chan bites his lips at the sight.
“Can’t believe I’ll have this all to myself for the rest of my life now.”
Fuck. Both the dedication and anticipation is killing you by now.
“All yours,” you exhale, leaning a bit backwards and almost knocking your head on the upper shelves.
“Be careful, angel,” Chan whispers before he falls down to his knees, stretching your thighs a little wider. Without a warning, he licks a long stripe over your panties, mixing his saliva with your juices that are trickling through the thin fabric.
“We should get this off, shouldn’t we?” You grant him permission and Chan starts placing kisses on your thighs, lower stomach and mound – all while getting better access to his destination as he’s spreading your pussy lips apart, being welcomed with your dripping hole.
He smears the liquids all over you with two of his fingers, making sure to slightly brush over your sensitive bud before he starts adding circles to the area. His digits are soon replaced with his tongue and you have to hold back the loudest whimper that’s ever been witnessed.
“Such a good girl,” Chan speaks softly in between the slurping sounds erupting between your legs. Gaining even more confidence because of your little cries for help, he carefully pushes two of his fingers inside your glistening cunt, as if you’re both doing this for the first time.
“Channie’s good girl–“ you cry out and you're surprised at your sudden submission – usually it takes Chan or any of your partners to do a little more to get you that way. It seems to be the effect he has on you, now that all the things are said and done.
“Fuck– baby– don’t make me blow in my pants,” he chuckles, picking up the speed of his fingers, scissoring you open.
“But– you’re so good at this.”
That’s enough praise he needs to continue with the sensual motions around your clit, bringing you closer and closer to the edge.
“‘m close– please, please, please. So close.”
That’s when Chan changes the angle of his fingers, curling them inside your tight walls and he knows exactly where to find that sensitive spot inside you.
“Fuck– I’m– I can’t–“
So, you let go, hunting that rush of ecstasy, as you feel the sensation wash over your whole body. Chan helps you ride out your high, as you cum all over his fingers and tongue, liquids spilling out of you.
“Fuck– that was hot,” is all he’s able to say, once he comes up from the floor again.
“Perfect,” you say, trying to catch your breath.
You now get aware of Chan’s very much visible tent, probably leaving him quite uncomfortable.
“Let me make up for it, hm?” You offer, as you palm him through his jeans. Already getting down from the counter, Chan stops you in your tracks.
“Another time, baby. I really really need to be inside of you now or I might explode. I’m serious.”
You stop your movements, leaning back again instead.
“Hm, you’re right. We don’t want to waste your precious cum if you can also fill my cunt with it, huh?”
Provoking him some more, knowing you’ve got him right where you want him, you spread your legs a little further.
“Fuck– don’t say this,” Chan whimpers, sliding his pants and underwear down, the fabric now pooling around his ankles, as his erection springs free.
“Please, Channie, just ruin me, I’m all yours.”
That’s all he needs for permission to align his hardened cock with your entrance. Still, Chan makes sure to tease you a bit more, when he smears his precum all over your folds, slightly brushing over your clit in the process.
And then he pushes inside, instantly making your walls quiver around him, as you try to take his whole length. The blonde presses a passionate kiss on your lips, as he simultaneously starts moving inside you, slowly and deep.
“Letting me fuck you in kitchens seems to be your absolute weakness, isn’t it?”
He’s pounding faster into you now, making sure to fit as much of his cock inside you but struggling a bit because of his size.
“No, Channie. You are my absolute weakness.”
He scoffs sarcastically, “Ugh. Cheesy.”
“But you like it.”
“No, I love it. I love everything you do.”
“You also love this?” You ask, before attaching your lips to his neck, adding bites to his skin, as you make sure to mark him as well. The spots instantly turn purple.
“Fuck– babygirl– I’m too close to handle this right now.”
But you continue, you know exactly where it gets him. And since Chan wants to make you cum first again before he’ll spill his seeds inside your throbbing hole, he decides to bring his fingers between your legs again, working on your clit.
“God– Channie, you’re so f-fucking good at this.”
Sparkles, glitters, fireworks – all combined fill your vision when you hit your climax the second time that night, clenching around Chan’s length. He’s close too, you can sense it by his sloppy movements, so you know what it’ll take to get there quicker.
“Will you fill me up with your cum, Channie? Mark me as yours, hm? Please, I need every single drop of–“
You can’t finish your sentence, as you already feel his juices shoot into your cunt before Chan comes to a halt.
“Promise me to not treat me as your enemy again,” he says now, a deadpan look on his face.
“Yes, sure, Channie. I promise I won’t.”
“No, I'm serious. If we want this to work, we’ll have to trust each other. I know it’s hard for you, but the fact I’m still clinging to you after how you’ve treated me the past half year should tell you enough. I love you, Y/N. But you have to let me love you.”
His words cut deep but you don’t complain – for once you’re finally glad he’s being completely honest about his own feelings as well.
“I love you too, Chan. So, can I treat you as my boyfriend instead?”
He smiles, as his cheeks get tinted in the prettiest shade of red.
“Absolutely.”
Silence fills the room and just when Chan is about to align his lips with yours, your bodies still very much connected, a noise startles you.
“Y/N? Are you still up?” The voice echoes through the corridor.
Chan hastily pulls out of you, tugging his softened cock into his boxers again, not caring about the fact he will ruin the clothing with it.
“Mum– wait– don’t come in–“
You adjust your jeans as well, somehow getting into your shirt but leaving the bra on the floor.
And then the door swings open.
“Oh– Chan…”
She instantly turns around out of respect.
“This is a bit embarrassing now,” you say, biting your lower lip.
“I’m so sorry. I didn’t see anything, I swear.” She covers her eyes, stepping out of the kitchen again.
But then she sneaks her head through the door, looking at you only, “I knew it. And please make sure to use protection and clean after–“
“Mum! Just please get out.”
Chan chuckles, placing a soft kiss on your forehead, “Good thing she already likes me.”
You join his laughter, “For real. She would have been furious if it was anyone else. You should feel honoured, you know.”
“I know. I do. Your mother kinda… talked a lot to me that I should make the first move. That’s it’s obvious that her little Y/N is aaaabsolutely in love with her Channie.”
You playfully nudge his shoulder.
“Just shut up.”
He clicks his tongue.
“Make me, baby.”
☽
Of course neither of you have been able to keep this a secret to everyone else that much longer. After your mother found out, he invited the both of you to stay a few more days and you gratefully accepted the offer.
Saying goodbye was never easy and it feels as if it’s the hardest today, hugging your parents and Tzuyu for the last time until the end of the year when you hopefully come back for Christmas – this time without any drama about friendships with benefits that should have been serious relationships from the start.
Yunho and Wooyoung are at the airport, too. Both of the guys have grown liking Chan and he clearly likes them back, sometimes a bit annoyed about Wooyoung’s loud behaviour but Yunho’s attitude makes up for it. When you asked him about the situation with the latter again, he assured you he’s never been jealous.
Chan isn’t a jealous man per se, especially since he knows you’ve been waiting for him all along. The fact you’ve had feelings for him despite that thing going on with Minho gives him enough confidence about your fresh relationship. He will never let you go that easily ever again.
The flight goes by quicker than you thought and once you get your luggage back, Chan and you approach the parking lot, finding Minho already waiting there for the both of you.
The guys give each other a quick hug before Chan announces to occupy the backseat, needing a little nap.
“Just let him. He’s finally sleeping for once,” you tell Minho when he gives you a confused look.
“Must be easier for him, now that you’re finally together.”
You contemplate if you should answer but you manage to speak, “Yeah. His insomnia has gotten a lot better, actually. My sleep paralysis too.”
“I’m really glad to hear that, Y/N. You do also look very pretty today, even prettier than usual. I can sense you’ve been feeling good.”
The both of you enter the car as well, Minho opening the door for you before he rushes to his seat and starts the engine. To get a better look of the surrounding area, he places his hand at the back of your seat, leaving the parking lot. This has always made your heart race a little and you feel awful that it still does.
“How have you been? How was the internship?”
“It was alright. I learnt a lot and the colleagues were nice,” he says, keeping his eyes on the road.
It’s not a long drive to your apartment. Chan is already fast asleep, his snores echoing through the vehicle as Minho and you giggle at the sound.
“I’m really glad to hear that, Lee Minho.”
He blushes when he hears you use his whole name again. It always made him feel a bit flustered.
“Did you meet someone there? Anyone interesting?”
He shakes his head no, “Nothing serious.” Minho’s gaze flickers to the rear view mirror, trying to get a more detailed look of Chan’s sleeping figure. He’s completely dozed off.
“I made a few acquaintances but I guess no one will ever come close to you, doll.”
Fuck. Not this again. Your heart shatters into pieces for the nth time.
“Minho…” you try to say something but your throat cuts the words off before they’re able to spill from your tongue.
“I was just joking, don’t worry.”
