so in Arti's campaign, giving pebbles the garbage wastes pearl, he mentions "it [the illegal experiment] was taking too long" and "I didn't think she would--[collapse/die/etc]"
In what world did he even consider that slurping up aaalll the water wouldn't result in a catastrophic failure for Moon??? It might've taken ages to complete without murdering Moon, but surely the results would've been much better than 1 collapsed and 1 rotting iterator. It would've been different if he were a solo iterator, but he was not.

Tbh I think he was just extremely desperate! When you bring a neuron to moon she comments how the inability to fullfill the task given to the iterators drove many to madness. We dont know how long its been since the ancients left. It could have been hundreds or thousands (if not more) years, or whatever their equivalent to years is. No matter how logical or smart the iterators are, that time spent frustrated and angry and in pain is enough to cloud anyones judgement, I think. And iterators arent just perfect logic machines, they can be led by emotions instead of the facts they know. We see this with suns sending pebbles the pearl despite knowing he would be too desperate to be careful with the experiment, and with moon not stopping pebbles even though she knew the danger she was in. So maybe pebbles did know it would damage her, but hoped despite that, that if he was just fast enough the damage wouldn't be too big. Maybe he wanted to trust his mentor that they wouldn't send him information on how to make an experiment that could damage or even kill him or his sister. And this is very much just my own interpretation, but maybe he didn't even register correctly that another iterator, especially moon, could get so badly hurt. We know from moon that iterators dying pretty much never happens, sliver being the big exception. Moon has been there long before pebbles was alive. And even if the entire reason he was built was to help her recover, she still lived and continues to live despite her age and faulty machinery. She has been a constant in his life since the day he was created. Maybe part of him knows that there is no way he wont hurt her. But how easy is it to listen to that when faced with an existence thats defined by not being able to die. And the frustration that comes with that. I think the thought of finally being able to find a way out of a existence they were most likely programmed to despise, not only for himself but for others as well, made it hard for him to think about the consequences. Being so close to a solution after all this time, maybe he couldnt wait any longer. Or maybe he did just use 100% of his big smart brain to be the stupidest motherfucker alive. Who am I to say
nobody warns you this but addiction happens without you noticing and one of the first things that it attacks is your ability to care. if you find yourself using recreational drugs every day, stop and take one day a week sober. if you struggle with this or if you don't see the point of the exercise, you are likely already addicted and you need help.

SO THIS IS MY INV VS SAINT AU!! It started as a shitpost and uh. Spiralled. Out of control. And now it’s genuine lol.
Enot and Saint are basically mortal enemies, and Saint needs to get Enot OUT OF THE CYCLES in order to continue his work, because this damn horny bastard won’t stop hunting him down…for some reason. Isn’t ascension the greatest gift you can bestow upon the creatures suffering in this barren wasteland? At least Saint thinks that. Inv, on the other hand, does not.
Enot stumbles upon Pebbles while passing through the silent construct, trying to find food one day. He takes a liking to this half-dead pink toaster, bringing him scraps of fabric as blankets and lanterns, and the best part…talking to him. Inv, somehow, can talk to iterators. And despite Pebbles’ very limited ability to reply, he does appreciate the company, and slowly the cycles become less agonizing. Pebbles has a friend. However, when Saint finds him, his immediate reaction is to attempt to ascend him—and he is tackled by a very angry slugcat, hissing and spitting at him in defence of its friend.
When Saint attempts to ascend him, he misses, just barely clipping Enot’s tail and glitching him half-out of reality. He then realizes, to his horror, that his karma seems to be draining. Whatever the hell this thing is, it’s dangerous, and Saint retreats to restore his karma (and heal some of the nasty wounds Enot gave him).
Inv turns back to see Pebbles, staring at him in pure fear, before he simply whispers out a “Thank…you…”. And that’s when Inv makes it his mission to save Pebbles (and everyone else) from Saint.
This leads to Inv running around the map, hot on Saint’s heels, trying to get any and all the iterators to figure out a way to get off their damn strings and LIVE again! Most of them are collapsed or semi-collapsed, so it’ll be an uphill battle, but when a glitchy, teleporting slugcat with the ability to speak tells you to do something…you’d be kinda inclined to do it.
Anyways the reason Enot can’t be ascended is because he is happy to give in to every single one of the great taboos. Wrath, Lust, Friendship, Gluttony, and Self Preservation. He revels in them. And if he can help the others experience them, and become happy with living again, they’ll be immune too! Also he is ridiculously OP to the point of him basically just having DevTools active because I think it’s Funny. He can glitch-teleport and drains the karma of beings around him. He also talks super casually and I think it’s funny.

“You do not understand what you are talking about!”

nobody asked but i think what i like about tyde is that they're a different vessel for the polarized kind of tropes people usually pin on stan and kyle. like i know jock stan is super divisive but clyde is canonically into sports AND he's dense as fuck. so i think it's really easy and fun to characterize him as a dumb jock.
and with tolkien it's like. obviously he's quite similar to kyle–smart with a strong sense of ethics and all that. maybe the biggest difference between them is kyle's temper? in that, like... tolkien would have the patience to be with someone who cares more about sports than some moral crusade or whatever. BASICALLY i just think tyde is a nice outlet for almost-not-quite jock/nerd stuff? because their relationship really can't be defined as a purely jock/nerd type of deal. tolkien is academically successful while clyde excels in athletics, but they're BOTH nerds. tolkien's into tabletop gaming and clyde has three copies of the lord of the rings AND the DVD with twelve hours of extra footage. so jock/nerd sort of describes it, but they're both nerdy. SO THAT'S FUN!!
and in terms of other tropes, i'm also partial to either or both of them being in theater!! we know tolkien is a good singer and he's in band, and. well. clyde has a dramatic streak a mile long. so with that in mind, can you imagine clyde being cast as the prince in the play, and tolkien playing in the orchestra and telling himself he isn't envious of the girl clyde's spinning around...
or what about something like tolkien slipping out of the football game a little early so he can get ready for the musical scheduled that night (the outcome of the game is obvious anyways), and clyde showing up in a front row seat just as the curtain goes up, having skipped all the post-game festivities because he doesn't want to miss a second of tolkien being on stage.
and i could never leave out clyde having one of his dramatic little outbursts just within earshot of a performing arts professor, and being dragged off to join the theater group, screaming and begging tolkien to save him. tolkien almost helps him, but really, isn't it about time clyde joined a real club?
SO. all this to say i guess i'm just a fan of tyde in any form, whether clyde plays sports or not, whether they star in the play together or not, whether tolkien is in band or not. i think it's fun to make them trope-y and i think it's fun to make them blur lines... i just think they're fun in general i guess :)
