Amidst the chaos, despite how soft and vulnerable your voice had sounded, he heard you. And he was quick to flip himself around, eyes scanning your body to make sure you were indeed alright for the thirtieth time that night. And perhaps you were alright physically but the tears in your eyes told him otherwise and Jimin was left to have his heart ache at just the sight. He could see your whole body trembling, the way you huddled closer to him in seek of some comfort. Your shaky hands gripped his masculine biceps but then opted to wrap your arms around his torso instead, leaning yourself flushed against his body as you softly cried into his chest.

The words of your father’s came repeating in his head; don’t touch her, don’t get close to her, don’t hold her, don’t entertain her. There were so many don'ts, so many rules that made him frozen in the spot as he contemplated on what he should do. But then he was reminded of the number one important rule;

Protect her at all cost.

And if protecting you meant holding you close during that moment, if it meant you’d feel more at ease, if it meant you’d feel comforted in the time of chaos and danger all around, then it also meant that he was indeed allowed to wrap his own arms around you. Protectively. As a shield.

Yeah, that was what he was. A shield. Just a shield.
