Do You Have Any Tips For A Beginner That Wants To Write A Fic? I've Only Ever Roleplayed. I Know What
Do you have any tips for a beginner that wants to write a fic? I've only ever roleplayed. I know what I want my story to be about but idk anything about pacing and placement?? If that makes sense. Please helppp π©
Have fun cause sometimes writing is a pain in the ass.
Pacing and placement. Tbh, I just take advice from outlines. Sometimes the outlines donβt help, but I try to do as much as I can with outlines. :/ I used to free write and that got me nowhere. I got stuck a lot on my fics, then I would abandon them.
In each chapter, something should be pushing the plot. One chapter canβt just have nothing in it, or just banter or whatever. Maybe character development.
Like if one character found out a secret or whatever, you can stretch this knowledge however you want. The character can either keep the secret until five or so chapters later for some great reveal cause the other characters donβt know anything, or the character can come out and say it in the next chapter simply for dramatics, then to see how the other characters react. Like...the characters should be reacting, and the reaction of these characters push everything one way or another.
If it has to do with romance, one character feels something, so how are they going to react to that other character, or to any other character, then thereβs the plot because romance can be the plot, but there are also outside stuff interfering with the whole romance part of the story. Sometimes other things can be more personal to the character if itβs not full out romance, like so what if they like the person, you can show Character A showing Character B some affection, but then thereβs Character C and D standing around, waiting for something to happen.
If that makes sense. If anything, read books, or just read a fic, one fic or a short fic, and see how the chapters are relatively structured. They can be either small or big, doesnβt matter tbh. Some people will say,Β βCan you please make your chapters bigger.β But tbh, you donβt have too, thatβs just a request you can ignore (and something Iβm trying to learn.)
If you write multiple characters, have them either talk about the plot, or something relating to their own needs and conflicts, then push it back to the plot.
This is all over the place, Iβm sorry. Not many people ask me about writing advice, even on my own writeblr. Lmfao.
Or at least how to start writing fanfiction. You can start small by writing drabbles (100/200 words.) Singular topics and conflicts can build up some ideas. :) Or you can write up to 1500 or 2000, or maybe 3000. Depends on how much you want certain fics to be. Itβs all up to you.
I recently wrote this drabble about Kool-Aid. It didnβt really have much in it besides Vanoss getting ready for a mission, only to find out he misunderstood some stuff about a so-called mission, only to see Delirious covered in Kool-Aid, which was actually blood.
Iβm not sure if I helped, but I hope you have fun writing. Ask anything else if you want, Iβll try to help as much as I can.
