The quiet hum of a vinyl plays in the background as Bucky stares at himself in front of a full body mirror, buttoning his last button on his uniform. He pats his arms to smooth the fabric and reaches over to where his merlot stained record player rests. He lifts the needle, halting the tune, and grabs a gift for you beside it, stuffing it into his back pocket. Bucky isn’t fond of this particular artist, but when you bought it for him unexpectedly on a date, he took it upon himself to grow to like it. Whenever he plays this on nights alone, he can’t help but think of how bright your face lit up when you found the tucked away record store you bought it from, dragging him by his bicep behind you.

Walking to his apartment door, he grabs his uniform cap from its doorknob and jogs to his mirror once again. He places the cap on his head, tilting it to the side purposefully so you can’t do it for him and mess his hair up. Giving himself one more look over, he lets out a sigh.

“Possibly the last night with my girl; Gotta impress her,” he mumbles to himself. He hopes that he looks presentable enough to accompany the stunning young woman that you are and make you swoon for one last time.

He felt it as soon as he stepped inside the space — home.

The realtor’s voice fades in the background as he takes it all in—warm, cream walls, brown hardwood floors that match the baseboards, not small enough that it’s suffocating, not too big that it feels empty.

And then he sees you.

He watches as you nod along to what the realtor was saying, letting your eyes roam around as well. And he hopes you could see it too, because he already does.
