reblog if you believe fanfics are as valid as books that were published and sold by authors who write as their main careers. I'm trying to prove a point

Aziraphale: I will love you no matter what, little plant! Crowley: You put a single leaf out of place and I WILL EAT YOU.
Fire Sale Commission! @onemuseleft wanted them gardening. They have different definitions of gardening. Aziraphale’s involves love. Crowley’s involves breaches of the Geneva Convention.

We've got our serious faces on
Sit down. All three of us are here and it's for a serious discussion.
This is a tiny bit outside the usual scope of this blog, but there's something happening in the fandom that we find disturbing - or rather, (yet) another thing happening in the fandom that we find disturbing 💀- and we didn't want to let it go by without saying something.
People have been saying that fans "should have known" about NG because of [insert x, y, or z creative work that he wrote]. They're saying "How could we not have seen it?"
Folks, this is giving victim-blaming vibes. It implies that there was a way THE VICTIMS could have/should have known what he was if THEY had "paid close enough attention to his work", blahblahblah.
Which is obviously is a morally putrid idea - and doubly so in this case, because his fans are, by and large, the pool he pulled his victims from.
His fame and influence made it easier for him to control and manipulate people. Many female fans are currently realizing they unknowingly had narrow escapes with him over the years. (Many more, including myself, are realizing that if we'd met him when we were 18 or 22 or whatever, we could have been among his victims.) There wasn't some crucial sign they overlooked. They did nothing wrong.
Now, if you want to ask "Are there things NG wrote that look different now in light of the revelations about him?", then yes, that is ABSOLUTELY a valid discussion to have.
But that's totally different from retroactively saying "we should have known!" The latter is highly inappropriate.
PLEASE STOP DOING THIS!
