Yeah, I really don't like it when people assign nuclear family roles to found families when they don't apply. Which is sort of why I stopped posting stuff about my Traveling Companions AU. Because even after going out of my way to say that Siffrin didn't really view Odile like a mother in that au people just kept putting it in that context.
I think this happens so often with older female characters and it's kind of disappointing.
But I also don't like policing in fandoms! So while it's a pet peeve of mine I think people should be allowed to make whatever connections and comparisons they want without negative nancys getting on their case.
isat: explores the concept of found family outside of the expected nuclear family dynamic. goes even further by being explicitly against the idea of a found family always being nuclear, and shows this by having the characters cringe and express discomfort at the idea of being assigned specific roles. wants you to accept its found family being an amorphous blob
