Yk I shaved my head so people would stop talking about my hair or touching it or complaining about it and now that I don't have any hair that they can touch or mess with they still talk and complain about it. I'm starting to think it was never the hair.
As a native american (I'm Pueblo), our hair is sacred, and I wanted to grow it out for all those who weren't able to. Especially since my family was assimilated (my mother wanted my siblings and I to have a chance she never did after we left the rez) and our hair was cut so we would fit in at school and stuff. It was a big decision to shave my head but I did it for very specific reasons that I considered for months before I did it.
I cut it off so nobody could control it, or look at me and perceive me in a dysphoric way. I shaved my head for spiritual purposes. I did it because it's my body and I can do whatever I want, as a reclamation of myself, as a rebirth, as a sign of mourning.
I do not regret cutting my hair, I'm glad I did it.
But now people are still complaining and commenting and trying to control my hair.
So again, I'm starting to think it was never about the hair.

As a writer I need everyone to know that whenever I write "exchanged glances" my intent is this
there is still time. there is still time. until your bones are in the fucking ground there is still time.
To people struggling with anhedonia (partial or complete lack of interest or pleasure in things):
Your life still matters. No matter what's causing you to experience anhedonia, whether it's schizophrenia, depression, trauma, addiction, a personality disorder, etc... I'm grateful you're here, and I'm in this with you. Anhedonia sucks. It makes it hard to want to do anything at all - even live - since things that should ellicit joy don't anymore... or they do, but not nearly as much as it should.
The good news is there's so much more to the world than our experiences in this present moment. We never know what good things are waiting for us. We never know if something good we experience now, in this empty state, will be something future us can look back on and feel something good about it. We also may not know the positive impact we're having on the world around us, allowing others to feel positively.
The only way we get to find all that out though is by keeping on trying and staying here to see it happen. That's not easy, but I hope it'll be worth it for both of us. Neither of us have to go through this alone ♡ Have hope - even the smallest amount of hope can get you far.
empathy gets treated as this universally positive thing but we forget that empathy often equals pain, and pain often activates fight or flight behaviors. a lot of my most asshole moments as a person were motivated by a twinge of empathy that was too painful to engage with in that moment, so i became aggressive and mean, NOT compassionate and helpful
I saw a post the other day about how difficult mindfulness meditation can be, especially for people who are neurodivergent, and OP was frustrated that their therapist never recommended anything else. There are many opportunities to bring mindfulness, focus, and intention to activities you already like! Learning about flow state has been a real eye-opener for me.
