She was on his mind again. They were friends, the best of friends - cliche, right? The kind of friends that were connected at the hip each and every time they were near. The kind of friends that comforted the other when their hearts damaged. It was a ritual as old as time, as old as both of them.
Their dreams took them in different directions. He had a fever for the idol life. He had a raw talent for words and rhymes. His style was unique and unlike anything that existed in the industry. He could do it - reach out and snatch that dream in his fist. She believed he could do it.
But her dreams took her to the US. During the initial training phase, he couldn’t communicate with the outside world.
And there wasn’t a day that he didn’t think about her.
Every night and every day
Then he debuted. It took a short period of time to gain traction. His group had been put together in front of a nation, after all.
He invited her to their first concert. They finished the first part of their set, standing in front of a crowded stadium. Light sticks sparkling in a sea of fan love. He bit into his bottom lip scanning the faces and banners. And then he saw her.
One of the members was busy talking about how excited they all were. The world seemed to quiet as their eyes met. She offered the slightest of smiles wiggling her fingers in greeting. He didn’t understand the shock, honestly. Why wouldn’t she come? And she was still as beautiful, to the point he felt his heart beat a little harder.
I think of what we could be
When he finally reached out to her after the communication restriction lifted? He was frightened. There was some free time for them finally. Jooheon spent it pacing and watching his phone. While Shownu and Kihyun were fine to let their main rapper wait to come to them? Minhyuk, unfortunately, was not that patient.
“Jooheon-ah, you’re going to walk a path into the floor.” He teased watching the other man pace with occasional glances to his phone. Minhyuk was busy perfecting his selca angles. Jooheon’s brow furrowed as he slowed his pace.
“Hyung, please. I’m already nervous as is.” He chewed the tip of his finger between his teeth. Minhyuk looked over his own cellphone. It wasn’t like Jooheon to be so impatient, so ..nervous. He pursed his lips as Jooheon flopped on the couch next to him. The rapper’s ringed fingers slid through his bleached hair.
Min sighed turning to clap a hand on his shoulder. “Go on. Tell me about her then.” Jooheon looked up too quickly, validating his assumption. “Just tell me.” Jooheon’s shoulders slumped and he spilled his pent up beans.
It took an hour for Jooheon to talk about the one that got away. That if he had a Muse on two legs? It was her. That he hadn’t stopped thinking about her the whole time they were training. That he hoped to make this dream come true. So he could reach her in a way that he couldn’t before. That he felt he had waited too long to reach out to her.
That he couldn’t think of not having her in his life.
You and I, we’ve got that thing
Minhyuk listened quietly almost energized by the passion oozing from Honey’s words. How the Rapper’s whole body was animated by the thought of this woman. He couldn’t help the sly grin that creased the corner of his lips. Jooheon groaned, his head dropping into his hands.
...and then his phone beeped.
No one else can make me feel.
He scrambled from the couch to pick it up. The familiar name flashed across the screen and suddenly? He lost his nerve. “It’s her! It’s...It’s her!?” He held the phone as if it was burning his skin. Minhyuk practically hissed as he shot up from the couch.
“Answer it, babo!” Min had a hand on his hip and the other flailing toward the younger member. “Straighten yourself out and answer it! Or you really will regret it later!” He stomped his way out of the studio hoping Jooheon would regain his nerve.
He took a deep breath and finally accepted the call. “Hey.”
There was a momentary silence, then a shuddering breath. “H-hey, is this - if it’s a bad time?”
“N-no! No, it’s fine. I was hoping I’d hear from you.” He relaxed, sinking into his chair. “...I’m glad to hear from you.”
She bit her lip listening to the sound of his voice filter through her speaker. “I’m glad you - I mean…” Another soft sigh. “I really missed you.”
He couldn’t fight the dimple deepened smile that spread across his face. “I missed you, too.” A flick of his wrist to glance at the time. “Are you busy tonight? I want to see you.” There was an audible sound of surprise from the other end. He smirked, “Well, do you?”
“U-uh, y-yeah. I do. But, is that ok? You won’t get in trouble, right?” Concern peppered her voice, but his laughter eased her fears. Just a bit. Only a little bit.
“Don’t worry, it’ll be fine. Tell me where you’re staying.” And she did. It was much later when he was finally able to leave the dorm. She wasn’t that far away. Close enough that an excuse for a night run shouldn’t put him out of place any longer than usual.
All he could think about was everything he wanted to tell her. All the time he missed that he wanted to regain. That nice leisurely jog turned into an almost desperate run within half a mile of his destination. He didn’t feel the burn in his lungs as he stepped into the elevator.
He felt like he was on auto-pilot by the time he reached her door. He licked the top of his lip before exhaling slowly.
She could hear him breathing on the opposite side of the door. Her fingers clutching the fabric of her shirt to quell the tremble in her fingers. What was she going to say to him? What would they even have to talk about?
Could she ever tell him…?
You fix all my pieces
Could he ever tell her…?
I want you
Would they even be the same?
I need this
Jooheon knocked gently, three soft raps upon her door. It took a moment to move her feet forward, trembling fingers undid the latch and locks. The door turned, parting slightly, til a pair of green circle-lenses looked up at him. “Hey.”
“Can I come in?” He could feel that hard thump in his chest again as she smiled - and stepped aside.
“Please do.” He brushed by her in a haze of heat and cologne. She closed the door gently behind him. She could feel him lingering there behind her. His frame blocking the light behind them. She turned slowly, keeping her back pressed against the door, to stare at him.
He had gotten taller, even more so, since last time. He filled out in the shoulders, his arms were impressive even beneath that hoodie. He was so different, yet still the same. It brought a smile to her face to see him healthy. To see him well.
Just...to see him.
“Jooheon.” She said his name like a gentle caress, and he lost all reason. He advanced, too quickly, pinning her to the door and her hands above her head. His breaths were deep as he inhaled her scent on quivering lips.
Love the way you say my name
“Say my name again.” His tone was gruff, hinting the edge of a growl. Hinting the very edge of his restraint. “Tell me you missed me.” His eyes squeezed shut tight. The sound of their staccato breathing was so loud in the silence of this moment.
I got no more secrets.. ‘cause all night I dream about you.
“Jooheon.” She sighed against the side of his face, trying to lean further into him. She couldn’t help herself, the warmth of him. The feel of him against her and the emotions welling inside of her. “Bogoshipda..”
Love how you say you miss me
Tears.
They were hot and they burned. His grip on her hands eased as she meshed her fingers with his. Neither one knew who shed them first. Their visions blurred as their foreheads touched. “I missed you, too.” He shattered into a thousand relieved pieces as she pressed her lips against his. A tentative brush, a testing of the waters, that had her tongue slipping over his bottom lip.
He felt his muscles tighten at the delicate motion. “There wasn’t a day that went by…” A groan as she got bolder. Soon she was edging him backward, his hoodie unzipped so she could touch him. He tore it off and it fluttered into a chair. His fingers toyed at the edges of her t-shirt. She had to practically get on her tiptoes to kiss him fully.
He was done toying around at that point. They were a flurry of lips, limbs, and untapped passion as they landed on the bed. He pushed pillows against the headboard, shifting her body upward. He couldn’t count how many nights he had wanted to do this. How many times she had brought her broken, shattered heart to his doorstep. How many times he want to kiss away her sadness. How many times he wanted it to be *him* that she laughed for. To be *him* that she smiled for. He wanted to own all of her good, her bad, and be the barrier between anything that would bring her low.
Her fingers interlocked at the nape of his neck as he paused. “What is it?” She asked him whisper-quiet as he processed all of her beauty.
“I never thought..” His brow furrowed as his hands dug greedy possession into her hips. “...that this moment would ever come.” His pants hung by a prayer to the expanse of his hips. His knee pressed deeper between her legs causing a moan to roll from her throat.
“I didn’t want to keep you from your dreams, Jooheon.” Her fingers slid against the side of his face. “...and I was an idiot to try to and worry about whether I would get in the way, or ruin our friendship.” She bit her lip as her eyes glittered with unshed tears. “...you were the best thing for me.”
Scared of love but it’s ok...
He shook his head with a soft sigh. “You were my dream. I felt like if you were with me? Anything was possible.” He covered her body with his. Braced on his elbows he moved a curly strand of hair from her face. “...even from thousands of miles away. It was always you.”
See the side of me no one's ever seen
All day and all night
Pillow talk.
“It’s always been you. It should have been you from the start.” Her hands fell away to cover her face. He healed her every heartache, just so she could turn around and get hurt again. Because she was running from the things she felt. Because she didn’t want him to lose the fire of his dream. Because she thought it was for the best - a lie she told herself for one year too many.
Is this what it feels like?
His world stilled as the truth left her lips. The whole, complete, truth that he had known for so long. She had been in love with him. He hadn’t read her wrong. And he was right to keep up hope. Jooheon moved her hands away from her face wearing that boyish grin. “It took you long enough.” A rapid bewildered blink of tears before she started to laugh. His smile grew until his eyes seemed to sparkle.
“Kiss me.” She looked up at him with desire so blatant his mouth went dry. He suddenly looked at her again, really, looked at her. Her hair was crimson-hued in the lamp, spread against the pillows. Her curves fit right into his hands. Need twirling his insides into a loop as he crushed his mouth to hers. He wasn’t gentle as he removed what clothing was left on her body. Rearing back on his knees he finally got to see all of her. There was a moment where she let the back of her knuckles rest on her lips. Her free hand moving to cover perceived imperfections had him growling.
“Don’t.” His chest heaving as he held onto the dregs of restraint. “Don’t you dare hide from me.” He winced as she moved her hand away. She was luscious and soft, a temple of curves that he would worship for as long as he could. She watched Jooheon slide back to the edge of the bed. His fingers tucked into the waistband of his pants one moment, flung to the chair another.
He sprung up hot, velvety, and hard as he continued to stare at her. Memorizing each freckle, every inch, and the birthmark on her thigh. He grabbed her ankles tugging her forward to meet him at the lower part of the bed. She leaned up on her elbows as he dropped to his knees, letting her feet dance on the top of his shoulders. She felt every swipe of his tongue and every pinch of his teeth down the inside of her leg. Each leg. He tortured her with his mouth along her skin, breezing over ache between her legs. He let her taste settle on his tongue before finally pulling her even closer. His fingers digging into her thighs as he let his tongue slide against her sex.
The contact had her gripping the bed for dear life. The sound that she made pushed him onward. He had the whole of his mouth covering her, devouring her as if she was the most sacred elixir. That the taste and scent of her would heal all his woes. He could feel nails scraping his scalp as he feasted. And he didn’t stop, even though she cried out. He held her tighter as she struggled against his mouth. He could feel her pulse dancing under his fingers. He heard her call his name, a hoarse whisper. He heard her breathing intensify as she moaned his name in a rush. He felt all the blood rush to his head when she shook violently as his tongue rolled over her clit. She felt him loosen his grip and she scrambled back toward the head of the bed. Her skin was flush, her nipples peaked, and he could see the goosebumps littering her skin.
Jooheon crawled onto the bed like a tiger eyeing his prey. She was thrilled and adrenaline-fueled as she felt the need to run. He moved between her legs unable to hold himself back any longer. He grabbed her by the waist holding her steady as he slid inside of her. Crushing his mouth to swallow her cries as he buried himself to the hilt. Her legs trembled as she locked her legs around his waist.
You and I - we’ve got that thing
No one else can make me feel
Scared of love but it’s ok
Love the way you say my name
Love how you say you miss me
Is this what it feels like
No words were needed. No words could have been spoken. There were no words in any language that would have been able to quantify the sensations that moved them. The road to eternity stretched farther and farther with each thrust. Her fingers dug in, crying out, and scratched down his back as her hips lifted to meet his one last time. He flexed into those nails a hoarse sound leaving him as he felt himself go lightheaded. His pulse quickened as he filled her, clutching her body close.
He rolled to the side, keeping his arm around her.
Sweating.
Breathless.
Complete.
All his dreams had finally come true.
Is what it feels like to fall in love?

Once Upon a Dream
Pairing: VIXX Leo x Female Reader
Type: One Shot
Genre: Dream!AU, Fantasy
WC: 3K
Warning: None.
Summary: There are people that are deep dreamers. The kind that have the ability to spin their nightmares into something else. So what happens when the Dreamer is apart of someone else's dream?
A/N: This is one of those dream within a dream scenarios. You know? The one where you have a dream - wake up, only to realize your ass is still dreaming? Yeah. I maybe had Shangri-La on repeat one day while I slept.
-----------------------
She always dreamed in bright and vivid colors. Like a rainbow whirled in colors of deep space pulsating nebula. It was always like this, recently, that she could pick out each color blend. Every night as music drifted into her ears, and the calm settled over her mind - this dazzling display always seemed to be waiting.
One night something changed.
She didn't know the why or how of it - but something was different. The landscape of the dream had morphed into something...more. She could always see a tall figure looming ahead. A silhouette made more prominent by the shifting colors of the dreamscape.
She would always see him turn his head, ever so slightly, over his shoulder. It gave her pause after many nights of approaching this figure. Some nights she'd get closer, some nights it seemed as if she was walking in place. The distance between them grew - but she never gave up.
It never crossed her mind as anything but an overactive brain trying to settle after a hard day.
The next night came around and the day had been particularly difficult. Her emotions had swung from each end of the spectrum of good and bad. The stresses of family difficulties weighed heavily that night. She grabbed her earbuds with a heavy sigh. The music streaming app had paused on the last song she hadn't finished before waking for the day.
Music had always been an escape, a way to sway the torrent of emotions that she fought against daily. Music, next to writing, was a saving grace against the mental goblins of depression: a playlist created for each emotion, for the sadness, for the malaise, and the yearning of a lonely heart.
"For once, I just...want to sleep. No dreams." Her fingers curled around her phone as if negotiating with it. Like it held power to determine where her mind would take her tonight. Her fingers sunk into her blanket as she pulled it over her head. The music filtered into her ears as her breathing eased into a soft lull.
She could always remember when deep sleep started. It always started to blur the sound of the music, like she was traveling farther away from the melody. Like the connection between the waking world was playing through a layer of fabric.
Then she opened her eyes. "No." A hushed whisper as she stared up into the 'sky.' The whirling colors of the universe danced in front of her. An arm rose to cover her gaze, hiding from the intense display.
"What took you so long?" A surly voice echoed around her. For all that attitude, he spoke softly. Pushing to sit up, eyes wide, she looked around to find the source.
"You've got to be kidding me." Her gaze lifted upward. Of all the things, the places she could have had dancing through her dreams. Why...
Why HIM?
Draped in silk reflecting the colors above them, he was perched on a rock - staring down at her. "You really should stand up." A brow rose as she continued to stare up at him. The realization caused her to scramble to her feet.
She stared at him for a long moment before closing her eyes. "It's just a dream." An exhale as her hands pushed out in front of her. As if she could move the scowling vision from her sight. There was a swish of sound that tickled her ears before a strong grip caught her wrist.
"Don't do that." The tug was strong enough to throw her off balance. She stumbled forward into him and suddenly began to doubt her sanity. It was a dream.
It WAS a dream.
But, he felt too solid for her liking. "You're not real. I'm exhausted. I'm tired. This is a dream." He pulled her against him, staring down into her wide eyes.
"Is it?" He was so close to her. He was so very close. He was way too close! She wasn't a short woman by any means. He had enough inches on her to make that tilt of his head just enough to put them almost nose to nose.
"Is it a dream?" His breath felt hot against her face, against her cheek. So close to the corner of her lips.
"IT IS A DREAM!?" Her heart was beating furiously. She could feel a lump form in her throat. These physical reactions seemed too much. They were, in fact, too much.
Enough that she pulled away from him and the world seemed to open under her feet. She gasped as she fell into the darkness. The last thing she saw was the sudden darkening of his gaze and a look of silent rage as the muscle ticked in his jaw.
She woke up gasping, sweating, and clutching her blanket to her chest.
It was only 4 a.m.
"Damnit." She hissed finally releasing the tension from her fingers. There was a thump as she slapped the edge of the bed, forcing herself upward. She shook her fingers as she padded toward the kitchen, followed by a trio of worried doggies.
The faucet rumbled as water filled her glass. It was raised to her lips before her gaze settled on the tilted heads of her pets.
"It's fine, guys. I promise." The glass was drained of its contents in almost two swallows. She set the glass in the sink with a sigh. Was it really fine? Another glance to the tilted heads caused her to shake her own.
If animals could speak? She was sure they would tell her - they didn't believe her.
Hell, she didn't believe herself.
She stared at her bed for a few minutes, as if contemplating whether it was worth it to try and sleep any more. "I think I'll just..catch up on some writing." Yeah, that was safe.
This continued for the next few days. She always woke up in that 'realm' greeted by colors and HE was always nearby. No longer a distance silhouette, no longer a mystery. Always waiting, scowling and surly, for her to arrive.
Always getting closer and closer to her. Always seething when she forced herself awake.
Today was no different. The day progressed faster than she realized. Before she knew it? Her phone screen blinked at 7 pm. Her hands stretched upward as her eyelids began to droop. These extended hours weren't new to her, but it had been a while since it had been consecutive in this fashion.
"Ugh. What's the point of eating now?" The heel of her palms dug into her eye sockets as she tried to blink the sleep away. It wasn't working. A nap would solve all of this. Just a short nap, to knock the haze off.
She didn't remember getting in the bed or bothering with the blanket. She didn't even remember if she put on the playlist. She just remembered the cool softness of a pillow - and then nothing.
She had achieved the nothingness she wanted, finally.
Or so she thought.
The vivid intensity of color was gone. There were lights like stars dotting the blackness beyond. She moved her from one end of the display to the other. And there he was, again.
She blinked, and he was suddenly closer.
"You're a strong dreamer." His long fingers curled against her cheek. She could feel the metal of his rings against her skin. "...but that won't work tonight. You know that, right?" There was still that slight surly, scowl in his tone. Normally expressionless, you'd almost think that he..smiled? Smirked? There was a twitch in his lip that gave away to some emotion. His fingers unfurled as they tucked under her chin. He was right; tonight would be different. There's a difference between dreaming in a controlled state - and dreaming in an exhausted state. And she was in a state of utter exhaustion. Her body was running on fumes and had every intention of resetting its energy levels.
Which meant she would sleep like a log until someone or something woke her. How did he know? How did he know that?! Infuriating! He was absolutely infuriating.
He loomed over her, their faces close. She could feel the fingers sliding down the side of her neck. The fingers were cool as they put a possessive pressure against her throat. She made an unexpected sound, covering her mouth in embarrassment. A smile spread across his face as he pulled the hand away, pinning it above her head. "Who am I?" His voice was low, moderately as if he was mustering every ounce of menace in his very being.
"You're a dream."
There was that possessive pressure that sent shivers from head to toe. That sound escaped her again; he looked pleased. "Who am I?" His face was too close again. He straddled her knees pinning her to the floor.
"This is impossible." She spoke between clenched teeth.
"And yet here we are. Say my name." He urged again pushing her free hand into the ground harder.
It was stress. That's all this was. This was some music-induced stress dream. And maybe, if she just went along? It would end. Sometimes you have to go with the flow. She was constantly in the business of controlling the flow.
Fine. She'd let this go wherever it was heading. This fighting, this strange battle was becoming too deep nightly. It was causing fitful sleep. So, she willed herself to relax. She became soft and yielded beneath him. He sucked in a sharp breath through his teeth. "Say my name." There was a huskiness to his voice.
She took a deep breath, exhaled softly as she closed her eyes. And she said it. She said the name that linked him to the waking world. She said the name she had screamed at the computer during live broadcasts. She said the name she yelled in her car as her favorite songs came on. It was strange to feel the flutter of her lashes against her cheek as her eyes opened. He looked satisfied, hungry almost. He was too close.
His lips brushed against hers. Her eyes flew opened wide on a gasp - and he took advantage. He tilted her chin upward locking his lips to her own. It felt too real! The slide of their lips together, the teasing tip of a tongue daring entry. He went from straddling her legs to covering her body with his own. He still held the one arm captive above her head. She had forgotten all about it. Beads of sweat formed, her heart began to run a derby in her ears. It was too hot; she couldn't breathe. The weight of him was too real. And when the panic was growing? He finally let up allowing her to breathe uninterrupted.
"I've been waiting for you." He said. Her brow furrowed in confusion. This is a dream. His fingers slid through her hair as he searched the planes of her face. It was too hot. He frowned, recognizing external stimuli was starting to interfere. Pushing to stand he pulled her up with him. That weird blurring of the world caused a strange static in her ears.
Wait, no. I don't want to wake up yet! He was saying something. His hand was on her tight, for dear life. As if he could somehow hold her there. He was talking as she shook her head. She was waking up; a panicked look up at him as his lips moved.
"I..I can't understand what you're saying!" Her voice rose in pitch as the world fell away. She could have sworn she heard a faint echo — something reverberating in the walls of her mind as she fell into the dreamless state. Maybe it was her imagination. Because the last thing she heard?
Soon.
The dreams became more infrequent, more irregular as time passed on. Then they stopped altogether. She found herself sad, oddly, that nothing greeted her but that vivid nebula of colors. It was time to settle into the normality of things. Because she was sure it was just stress, right?
A friend called, out of the blue, with strange, yet fortuitous news. "So, I know you've been in a slump. I'm going to KCON and I think you should come with me. It would do you some good to get out of the state." Her friend sounded chipper, hopeful.
There was every excuse, and story of why she couldn't go - why she shouldn't go. And finally, a good fat excuse dinged in her brain. Like the sound of a microwave done zapping a meal. "You're right. Let's go." Wait, what? She shocked herself! And before she could change her mind? Her friend squealed with joy, rushed that she would figure everything out and hung up. Shit.
Barely a week had passed and she was on a plane, headed to L.A. Her friend rambled about all the things they would do. All the food they would eat. All the hi-touch, autograph and photo opportunities. It went into one ear and out of the other. She promised to not ruin this good time for her friend. They landed in California, it was bright and sunny. It was warm and loud. It was different from home and it invigorated her, just a little. They checked in, had dinner, and passed out. Tomorrow would be a long, packed day. She dreamed that night, but couldn't remember anything but fragments. Vivid colors. The sound of water. That distant silhouette.
Soon
She didn't dwell too long on it as they rushed to dress comfortably and leave. There were so many people! It was a sensory overload of scents and sounds. Her friend was rambling on about..something or the other. A word, a name caught her attention causing her to stop. Her friend turned to look at her, concerned. "What?"
"You - I'm sorry, where did you say we were going first?" Her friend laughed. "I thought I'd surprise you! You like that one group, right? VIXX?" The friend reached back and grabbed her arm to tug her along. "We're going to the fan event! Come on or we'll be in the back!"
It felt like the world went in double-time. They maneuvered through the throng of people to get, decent spots, in line for the fan event. Sure, she'd missed them when they were on the East Coast. But, this too advantageous.
Then it happened - the lights dimmed. The host came on the stage to mild applause. Everything seemed muffled like she was trying to listen with water in her ears. She could feel her nails digging into her palms. Using it as an anchor to keep her grounded, she watched as the group flood onto the stage. The applause, screams, and tears of fans rumbled the walls. They introduced themselves in typical fashion. Each stating their name and position, adding a smile, a wink or some type of aegyo at the end.
"They're doing a concert tonight!" Her friend nudged her excitedly. "We've got great seats for it!" She could only nod as they began their Q&A. The crowd yelled answers to questions. Laughed at jokes and silly antics, and then with the last chunk of time left? There was an opportunity to high-touch. Her friend dragged her to line squeezing in just at the cut-off. She turned to face her friend who gave her two thumbs up as she approached the stairs. I'm definitely going to kill her later.
The rough sound was louder than she realized, the girl in front of her turned with a questioning look. A small cough left her as she went up the stairs. She was the last one. Pictures really didn't do them any justice. They were really like mystical creatures.
The Leader smiled in that way that causes everybody to scream - it was intense.
The Rapper was charming, in a boyish way! It was a stark comparison to his bad boy rap persona in videos.
The Cute Main Vocal reminded her of a cherub. The slightly pudgy-faced, rosy-cheek messenger angels.
The Visual was stunning - what more could you say? The nickname Artwork fit him perfectly. You felt a sudden warmth at the width of his smile. He rightfully earned his title as bias wrecker supreme.
The Evil Maknae had grown so well! He was reaching the point where his height was starting to crest over the other members. She couldn't help but laugh as they high-five. This was good! This wasn't too bad, at all. She managed to get in words of thanks for their hard work in with each high-five.
There was a lopsided smile on her face as she continued on to the last member - her bias. She felt the smile begin to waver a tad but held up as she raised her hand to complete the line. A calming inhale as her eyes lifted to meet his. Her hand connected with his, "Thank you for your hard work. Good luck tonight."
His fingers interlocked with hers with that intense stare. "You."
She knew that stare from her dreams. Her nostrils flared as the grip on her hand increased. "Impossible!" She was frozen in place.
He leaned down those few inches. The others members turned to look confused, shocked and stunned at Leo’s behavior. The sound of murmurs, gasps, and squeals flooded the room. There was that look on his face. He was pleased with her response. Their noses brushed as she stumbled into him again. "I told you I would see you soon." His lips brushed against hers again. The same strange heat and intensity. In front of everyone! In front of these cell phones and staff!
He broke their contact, releasing her hand causing her to stumble. Her arms pinwheeled as she fell backward. The world opened up beneath her as he watched her fall. He smirked as the world began to fizzle. "You're not the only strong dreamer."
Her eyes went wide as she fell into darkness...
....and woke up in her bed.
Gasping.
Sweating.
...and clutching her blanket to her chest.

Taehyung wasn’t normally a morning person. He worked late nights, especially with running the Indie record label alongside Jungkook, which meant hours upon hours spent at the recording studio. There were nights when his insomnia would take hold of him, keeping him from being able to rest properly. Waking hours lulled on with worries that he often kept to himself. When he didfinally sleep, it was restless and sometimes plagued with nightmares. He tried sleep aids that Jimin suggested, but they only worked so long as he didn’t grow dependent on taking them every day.
This particular morning, Taehyung was up just as the morning haze began to lift. Cradling a steaming paper cup of coffee, he approached the quiet amusement park. They wouldn’t be opening for a couple of months, what with it being the off-season. Being a former Golden Jackal had its perks and he was able to unlock the large padlock connected to the links of chains outside of the gate. The metal hinges creaked loudly and he winced, wondering if this resembled how the gates of Hell would open when entreating new residents.
I’ll find out one day, I guess, he thought, smirking against the brim of the cup as he entered the park while stuffing the padlock into his coat pocket. He always believed he was damned. May as well make the most of his life while he was still up and kicking.
Spring was around the corner. He could feel it. The air was less frigid and held a distinct warmth to it, even through the overcast sky.
Taehyung glanced around casually, peering at the different rides. The park looked like a ghost town since no one was there to enjoy the festivities. Vendor booths were empty of prizes and food, but he knew if he imagined hard enough, he could hear the ambient noise that came with the scenery.
A stab of nostalgia poked at his chest as he recalled the small-town festivals that were held in his hometown. Farmers gathered to drink, barter goods, and traveling performers visited to entertain the townsfolk. Taehyung was amused with it until he became a teenager, wondering if the country life was all he was going to ever surround himself with. He’d had his own ambitions to leave and head to the big city, but he never imagined he would have done it with his childhood friends.
Everyone seemed so set in their ways back then. Even Namjoon.
He halted his steps, lifting his face to the sky. I wonder when things started to change…
“It’s creepy when no one is here,” said a voice behind him.
Taehyung lolled his head lazily to the side, pivoting slightly until he was face to face with the person he agreed to meet with that morning. He pulled the hood back on his hoodie, sneakers shuffling on the concrete as a better dressed Chae Hyungwon approached. His bubblegum pink hair looked faded, mostly from the overcast skies, but his piercing eyes seemed even brighter than normal. The silver earrings dangling from his lobes jingled softly as he walked, a soft smirk pulling at the corners of his full lips. While Hyungwon was dressed in what most would consider business casual, Taehyung felt severely under dressed in comparison.
And he didn’t give a damn.
Hyungwon stopped just a few feet in front of Taehyung, the two men facing each other. Instead of greeting him (or even acknowledging his earlier comment), the younger man took another drink of coffee. He made a point to slurp in an obnoxious fashion, unbothered by the simple lift of a brow from Hyungwon.
When he pulled the cup from his lips, Hyungwon scoffed as he stuffed his hands into the pockets of his slacks. “You didn’t even bother to bring me a cup of coffee?”
Taehyung shrugged a shoulder. “I didn’t know I was supposed to.” And to be a brat, he took another long sip.
“So disrespectful to your Hyung,” Hyungwon replied casually.
“Now that,” he said, the hand holding the cup pointing at him, “you most certainly are not.”
Hyungwon made a dramatic show of being insulted, placing a hand on his chest as if he’d been physically struck. When he noticed that Taehyung wasn’t going to humor him, he returned to his normal posture and expression.
“You’re no fun.”
“Why did you want to meet me at such a stupid time of day?”
He watched the older man take a few steps forward, closing the gap between them, before side-stepping Taehyung and walking past him. He turned his body in time with his movements, not wanting to have his back to the Snapping Turtle. However, Hyungwon seemed focused on whatever he was processing in his head as he continued walking, not bothering to see if Taehyung would follow. He didn’t care to be left alone, but he wasn’t comfortable with Hyungwon running around and being left to his own devices in a place only he had been allowed access to.
“Hey!” he belted out, but the older man continued walking with no signs of slowing down his pace at all. “You gonna answer me or what?!”
Again, he was ignored.
Annoyed, Taehyung jogged forward and grasped onto Hyungwon’s shoulder, whirling him around so they were face to face. When he did, he was suddenly aware of something sharp pressed against his neck. Taehyung rocked back on the balls of his feet, surprised he still had a hold of his coffee. Hyungwon’s eyes, which were playful and light earlier, were now dark and threatening. A lump formed in Taehyung’s throat and as he swallowed, he was even more aware of the cold bite of the item still against his skin.
“Taehyung-ah,” came Hyungwon’s even tone, his hold on the knife steady, “I know it isn’t your style, but you should really mind your manners.”
Taehyung smirked, slowly setting his feet back evenly on the ground, and shrugged. “Oh, right,” he said, as if he was remembering something, “I forgot how you hate being touched.”
Hyungwon quickly removed the knife’s edge from his throat, folding the blade back into its confines and slipping it into his pocket. Taehyung absentmindedly rubbed at his neck, checking if the skin was broken. When he saw no blood, he looked up at Hyungwon who was now brushing his hands through his hair in irritation.
He wasn’t going to be the only one who got riled up at this asinine hour of the day.
For a while, the two men just stood in companionable silence. It was like this before; in the past. When the Golden Jackals didn’t exist. Back then, the Jade Fangs were the young gang climbing up in ranks on the streets. Their reputation wasn’t as profound as it was today, but, in time, they were able to gain notoriety where it counted.
And it happened because of them; the Golden Jackals.
“If I call you ‘Hyung’, just for today, will you tell me why you dragged me out of my bed?”
Hyungwon’s irritated expression was immediately replaced with a mischievous grin. “I’ll think about it.”
Taehyung rolled his eyes. “That’s the only offer you’re getting. If you don’t have anything to tell me, I’m going back to sleep.”
Without waiting for an answer to his ultimatum, he turned on his heels and began walking back towards the entrance of the park.
“Icarus died because he flew too close to the sun.”
His sneakers made a loud scraping noise as he halted abruptly. Slowly, he turned his head to look over his shoulder at Hyungwon. The older man stayed where he was, hands once more in his pockets.
Taehyung quipped a brow at him. “Yeah, so what?”
“His hubris is what killed him.”
This time, he narrowed his eyes. “Again, so what?” he asked through clenched teeth.
Hyungon’s lips pressed together in a thin line. He looked like he was about to say something, then stopped. Taehyung did his best not to squeeze the paper cup in his hand. He visibly looked like he was piecing something together, formulating the words in his head. Taehyung smothered his anger down into his gut to keep from exploding in outrage at Hyungwon.
After what felt like a small eternity, the older man met Taehyung’s eyes. “You all need to leave Seoul.”
Though he hadn’t meant to, Taehyung burst into a small fit of laughter. “I’m sorry, what was that?” Hyungwon clearly wasn’t joking, but he couldn’t stop laughing. “You want us to leave where now?”
“Seoul.” Hyungwon’s tone was clipped. “You need to leave Seoul as soon as you can.”
“Fuck that.”
“I’m serious, Taehyung-ah. Leave Seoul.” Hyungwon sighed, averting his gaze. “At least for a little while. Until things settle down.”
Taehyung’s laughter died off. “And why the hell should we do that, huh?” He was smiling, but he could feel the precursor of an eruption bubbling in his chest. “After all the hard work we’ve put in through the years, after everything we’ve fucking accomplished, you think we’re just gonna turn tail and run? Huh?”
Hyungwon said nothing, which only made him angrier. Why wasn’t he giving him more of an explanation than that? What the hell was so goddamn pressing that he felt the need to tell him and his brothers to fucking scram? As far as he was concerned, they’d paid their dues and done their time. They had no reason to flee the scene because they weren’t in the shadows anymore.
A sliver of light peeled in through the clouds, followed by several more rays that beamed down around them. The concrete took on an ethereal glow, shadowing their forms even more than they had been under the cloud cover. Even the steam rising from his coffee was lost in the darkness.
“I’m afraid it doesn’t work that way.”
“And why the hell not?”
“Because it doesn’t.”
“No,” snapped Taehyung, pointing to Hyungwon angrily, “you need to make it work that way. I don’t know what your boss has planned, and I don’t fucking care. We’re not playing the game anymore. We’re out!”
“That doesn’t matter.”
“What?!”
“I said that it doesn’t matter.” Hyungwon’s brows furrowed slightly. “You think the game is over just because you’ve folded your hand? Don’t be so naïve.”
Taehyung scoffed, rolling both his neck and his eyes, before giving him an incredulous look. “Wow, Chae Hyungwon, you—”
“The game is still being played, Kim Taehyung. So, while I’m telling you nicely, you need to take whatever you can and get the hell out of Seoul.”
Taehyung’s anger was boiling and on the verge of overflowing. Yet he couldn’t say anything. In all the years he’d known Hyungwon, he’d only ever seen him this serious once. And that was on the night war broke out in Gangnam five years ago.
The night when the Golden Jackals solidified their place in the criminal underworld.
Something else dawned on Taehyung at that exact moment. Why it had taken him so long was something he’d have to battle with later, when his mind was a little quieter. But now? Now he had a better understanding of the situation. Now he had a better grasp on the danger they were about to be in.
Or already were in.
Those bastards are about to make a move, he thought, almost horrified by the idea of it, and he doesn’t care that we’ve pulled out from the competition.
“Leave the table.” Hyungwon approached Taehyung, walking around him and heading toward the exit. “Before you’re forced to see just how much you’re about to lose.”
He watched Hyungwon exit the amusement park, leaving Taehyung alone as the sun continued breaking through the clouds. His hands shook violently and hot coffee spilled out onto the ground, burning the back of his hand. But he couldn’t feel any of it. He was completely numb. If his entire body wasn’t trembling with the force of his rage, he might have cared.
Reaching into his back pocket, he fished out his cell and quickly dialed a number. It rang twice before they picked up. Swallowing the lump in his throat once more, Taehyung wet his lips as he tried to regain his voice. As he tried to tether some semblance of sanity back to his brain - to keep his mind from running amok without reason.
But he had a reason. They all had one.
Because the game wasn’t over yet.
“Hoseok Hyung,” he said gently, his fingers curling into a literal death grip around the phone, “I think we’re about to have some problems…”

AN: And we have the smuts finally. Woo. I did it early this time, guys. Again, I just want to let everyone know that this series is going to be updated slowly. Like, one chapter a week. So just be patient with me. I promise you that it will be worth the wait. If you would like to be added to the tag list, feel free to drop me a line!
P.S. Please bear in mind that while the historical accuracy will be mostly correct, I am setting this in a time period in Joseon history where there was no such thing as a king who had a twin brother. Obviously that’s where the fiction/creative freedom is going to come in. Everything else will be period accurate, trust and believe.

“Never love anybody who treats you like you’re ordinary.” - Oscar Wilde
Kali sighed as she watched the moon slowly rise over the mountain peaks. The world was still and quiet, the occasional chirp of the cicada barely audible in the silence that blanketed over everything. Turning her head slightly, she smiled as she watched Yoongi sleep. It took a bit longer than she might have wanted, but with the aid of a sleeping draught, he finally relaxed and allowed her to tuck him into his bedroll.
San slept faithfully at its master’s feet, his large head lifting when he heard Kali move to stand. The wolf started to get up, but she placed her hand out and shook her head. The wolf yawned and shook its upper body before settling back comfortably on the floor. She bent down to pet the wolf’s head between his ears and smiled when one of his ears flicked at the touch.
Scooping up her satchel, she reached inside and pulled out several books. Setting them on a nearby shelf, Kali made sure the letter was nestled between the pages of the book on top. After ascertaining that the two of them were sound asleep, Kali pressed herself out of the humble mountain home and stepped out onto the cool night air.
“I’m sure he will be seeking me out soon,” she murmured, gripping the strap of her satchel in one hand as she lifted her face toward the sky, “the tiger will bare his fangs if I do not answer his summons.”
With a wave of her hand, the space in front of Kali rippled. The trees, grass, and fireflies all blurred and tilted in motion. Finally, a dark hole appeared and she stepped through the portal. Once inside, a swirling galaxy of stars and light appeared around her. The large expanse of the void rippled with each step she took. Many voices careened at her body from every direction, causing her heartbeat to elevate with each second she was inside of that dimension.
Another portal opened in front of her after walking several meters. Without blinking, Kali passed through the large black opening. When she reappeared, she was back in her own personal quarters in her home just outside of the Crown City. Sighing, she took a quick look over herself in her vanity’s mirror. Her satchel barely touched the ground just as a loud knock echoed from outside.
Kali had no servants. She had no need for them. Despite a certain royal’s persistence, she refused to have any attendants that could possibly spy on her during her ritual prayers or when she crossed into The Veil. Joseon was still a skeptical nation and its people were quick to yell “heresy”, even without all the information. Being branded a foreign devil, the last thing Kali wanted was anyone being able to prove just how much power simmered beneath her fingertips.
Adjusting the front of her robes, she retreated from her chambers and out to the main courtyard. Her estate was small in comparison to most noble households, but the King spared no expense when it came to her comfort. Her biggest budget crusher was her personal garden that was full of plants of different varieties to help with her potions. Kali took a moment to survey her plants, despite the heavy persistent knocking rattling the large wooden gate to her estate. She was in no hurry to answer since she already knew who was on the other side.
She managed to clip a few sprigs of tea leaves and some Nightshade before the erratic knocking began to grate on her nerves. Placing the items into the leather pouch that swung from her hip, she approached the gate and slid the large wooden bracer ff the panels. Shoving the wooden gate hard, it swung out loudly and knocked into the person on the other side hard enough for them to fall on their backside. He looked up, perplexed, as she scowled down at him, biting back an irritated snarl.
“Persistence is only a virtue in some religions, Sir,” she said, her tone even, “patience is a virtue every child of man should learn to embrace.”
The young man scrambled to his feet, dusting off his clothing as he readjusted the hat on his head. “F-Forgive me, Lady Shuri!” He quickly bowed his head, apologies tumbling from his lips, before he reached to his side and pulled out the messenger cylinder hanging from his shoulders. He hurriedly untwisted the cap, pulling out the rolled up piece of paper inside. With his head bowed, he handed it to her.
Unfurling it slowly, her eyes scanned over the elegant brush strokes that belonged to the Crown Prince. He was asking for, as she knew he would. Wishing for his fortune to be read was simply a ruse. It always was. What he longed for was something that she could happily give to him. As a subject of Joseon, even as a foreigner, it was her duty to give into his desires. It was the one thing she could do to help tampen the madness that was already starting to brew inside of him.
She couldn’t deny him, even if she wanted to.
Folding the note away, she slipped it into the sleeve of her robe. “I will be there as His Highness wishes,” Kali replied, already moving back into her estate.
“B-But, My Lady...His Highness, the Crown Prince, said that I should escort you personally.”
She glanced at the messenger over her shoulder, cutting her eyes at him. All he could do was stand frozen in terror before a dark smile spread over her full lips. “His Highness will receive me when I am ready to be received. He knows I have been traveling and need to change.” Kali began closing the gate. “I will see him soon.”
The messenger swallowed the lump in his throat, fearing more for his life than for the lack of her presence accompanying him on the way back to the palace. But if he was smart, he would relay her words exactly as she said them to the Crown Prince. He would know the meaning behind them and he would be patient for her. Otherwise there was no meaning or value to their relationship in the first place.
Pulling the pin from her hair, her dark tresses fell about her neck and shoulders as she entered her manor. It wouldn’t take her long to gather up the herbs and oils needed for a nice soak in the bath. As for her clothing choice, Kali knew she would have to pick something shimmery but tasteful.
Even if her robes would not be on her person for very long.
It was late and he’d dismissed his servants for the evening. There were the standard guards posted outside of his palace entrance, but other than that, he was completely alone. The Crown Princess requested to see him, for him to spend the night at the Magnolia Pavilion, but Yoon refused. He would see his wife another night. But not tonight.
Tonight was reserved for one person and one person only.
Yoon paced inside of his personal chambers for what felt like hours. Every so often, he would reach up to bite his thumbnail both from impatience and aggravation. It would be a lie to say that his anger hadn’t flared when the messenger returned with Kalina’s words. As impertinent as he imagined her tone to be, he knew that what she spoke was the truth. Kalina was not a person of Joseon and, as such, not one of his people.
She held a certain level of autonomy within the Joseon Royal Court because of her standing with the King. Whispers of him being bewitched by the foreign soothsayer spread throughout the different Noble Factions. But everyone also knew how faithful the King was to the Queen. He had two royal consorts, but the Queen always had his father’s favor above the others. The other two concubines were arranged marriages from two different court factions. Yoon’s own wife was a member of the Western Faction of Nobles.
As it stood, no one in the royal family could marry someone outside of their own country. Not like in the times of their ancestors, when Kings were warriors and legends were carved in stone; immortalizing them forever. Joseon was a strict nation; even more so after the Goryeon Empire crumbled to the ground. But if Yoon could have his way, he would pass an edict that allowed him to marry someone outside of their own nation state.
For his own selfish reasons, of course.
Flopping onto the silk cushion behind his desk, Yoon grunted. He was growing more and more impatient. How long was she planning to make him wait?
Just as he was preparing to mentally chastise her, energy warped in the far corner of his room. The Crown Prince stood, the steady beat of his heart escalating as the color palette in one part of his room began to shift. Saliva collected around the inside of his mouth as Yoon slowly stood from the floor.
This wasn’t the first time.
This wasn’t the second time.
Kalina rarely came to him in this fashion, but when she did, it never got old.
He could watch her enter through that portal like a timeless dream until he ceased to exist.
The first thing he saw were her sleeves; a deep, rich purple spun from the finest silk and trimmed in silver. Her lithe fingers, modestly decorated with stone rings, reached into the space that occupied his chambers. The rest of her entered his room, her skin like chestnuts freshly plucked as her raven hair danced about her shoulders - just barely hidden beneath the softness of the robes she wore. She was barefoot, her toes peeking out from beneath the hems of her dress; the aroma of rose petals and lavender oils permeating his senses.
Sweat prickled along the back of his neck, her own neck bare save for a single jade pendant that hung from a thin black chain. She dipped her head slightly, looking up at him from beneath a hooded gaze. Kalina’s long lashes accentuated the forest green of her eyes, cheeks slightly tinted a soft pink from either the warmth or a flush at seeing him.
He didn’t care which it was.
The portal closed behind her with a mere wave of her hand. The magic that existed there almost seemed to vanish, but he could sense the power that circulated through her blood. Her arms swept out to either side of her as she delicately lowered herself to the floor. Everything fluttered around her, the candle flames dancing at her mere presence. Her head was bowed, but he could still see the smile on her face; like she’d succeeded in trapping the greatest game the likes of which man had ever seen.
Like any warrior, Kalina seemed to hold no such openings for Yoon to exploit. Yet she could pierce through every single one of his defenses. All it took was one simple phrase.
“Kalina Shuri is here, my Crown Prince,” she said, a bell-like lilt in her voice. Kalina lifted her face as he stared pointedly down at her. “...I am here, Lee Yoon.”
The trigger was always his name. His true name.
No one was allowed to whisper it. Not even his own wife. His parents set that name aside when he was elevated to the rank of Crown Prince. Lee Yoon disappeared from within the palace walls.
Only this exquisite creature before him, a being who seemingly had not aged since he was a child, dared to call him by name.
Yoon launched himself from the other side of the room, intent on laying his hands over every single inch of her. But just as he was less than a meter away, something stopped him. His body was rigid and no matter how hard he grunted, he was unable to break free. Wide eyes moved to look at Kalina, watching as the woman held her hand out at him - palm facing outward. There was a soft vibration in the air that sang over his skin, causing the hairs on the back of his arm to prickle. Sweat slid down the column of his neck, disappearing beneath his robes.
“Kalina,” he managed to choke out, feeling the veins starting to pop near his temple. Yoon’s eyes narrowed as she slowly rose from her seated position. “Release me at once.”
She was standing at her full height and was still a full head shorter than him. Yet in that body thundered supernatural power that only existed in myths and legends. That same power that was holding him bound in place, unable to take a single step toward her. Instead, she smirked, inching her way forward as the sleeves of her robe slid off just a bit to bare a shoulder to him.
“Now, now, Seja Cheo-ha,” Kalina said, the bell tone replaced with something deep and velvety, “the night is still young and I have not seen you in weeks.” She leaned forward, pressing her nose into the curve of his jaw. Her scent filled his lungs instantly, breathing her in at the exact moment she breathed him in. “Let me have a look at you, hm?”
This was torture. Yoon should have her flogged, but the way she plucked him like a brand new harp was deliciously unfair.
“Release me now, Kalina,” Yoon half-snarled as he felt the tip of her tongue press against his throat, “you jest far too much.”
Her hand glided over his shoulder, teasing at the baby hairs near the back of his neck. Kalina lifted her face to peer into his eyes and had it not been for her spell, he would have lost his ability to stand completely. The sorceress pouted. “But you’re going to be leaving for a long journey soon, are you not?” He shouldn’t have been surprised, but the expression appeared anyway. “Is that not why you summoned me?”
Yoon frowned. She was going to make him beg. This was outlandish.
“Will you have me beg, woman?” The question showcased his ire, but this only caused her smile to widen.
“A lowly being such as myself would never request such a thing,” Kalina whispered, her hand gesturing over his body.
What spell held him was lifted. Upon his release, he grabbed her and harshly tackled her onto his plush bedroll. The sorceress released a soft giggle, failing to abate his anger. He hadn’t pinned her arms down and she took the initiative to reach up and pull at the small pin that held his hair in place. His white-blonde tresses fell around his shoulders like a soft curtain of wheat and he felt a ripple slip down his spine.
Her fingers combed through his hair and for a while, neither of them spoke. Only the hushed sounds of their breaths existed between them. He lifted one hand up to press the pads of his fingers against the soft skin around her jaw. He let his thumb dip in between her lips and Yoon released a soft hiss when he felt her bite down around the digit. The loose-fitting robes suddenly felt too tight as his erection threatened to rub itself raw against the silk.
Removing his hand from her face, he slid it between the loose fabric nestled around her legs. He could feel her heat and his brows lofted when he realized how bare her attire actually was. Her flush-kissed cheeks grew a deeper shade of pink and he flashed her a predatory smirk.
“Were you preparing yourself for me?”
Kalina huffed an impetuous laugh. “Isn’t it a servant’s duty to always know the needs of one’s master?”
He bit back a groan. Her words were like a spider’s web, trapping him further. The harder Yoon struggled, the more he was ensnared.
Tearing at her clothes like a wild animal, every layer was peeled away to expose her sweat-tinged skin to him. He saw her lifting her hand, reaching out toward where the candles were, but he swiftly snatched at her wrist to stop her. She lifted a brow at him, aptly curious as to his intentions.
“No,” he whispered, bringing her hand up so he could press a soft kiss to the inside of her palm, “leave the light.” He grazed his teeth along the center of her hand, giving it a sharp nip. “I want to have a look at you.”
Leaning forward, he pressed his face along the valley of Kalina’s breasts; soft, pugnacious and full of warmth. He could feel the thrum of her heartbeat against his nose and he trailed his tongue between her breasts, a lascivious hunger threatening to burst from his entire body. Yoon’s hand fondled one mound and he used his other hand to pull at the ribbons keeping his robe cinched to his body. He ached for her. Yearned for her to release him from his demons.
Because only she could and she knew it.
His silk trousers fell easily off his waist and he kicked them from his legs in haste. Reaching behind him, he pulled his dark blue robes off his body and tossed them to the side; abandoned with Kalina’s own robes. He was hard and ready, his hands coated in her juices as he reached down to play with her folds. Decreed by the Heavens to rule, Yoon could only see himself worshiping this witch that lay bare in front of him.
Her fingers curled into the hair at the crown of his head, urging him forward as he pressed kisses along her stomach. He turned to press his teeth into the tender skin of her inner thigh and he smiled when he heard the gasp push from her throat. Inhaling deeply, he relished in her womanly scent before diving into her velvet heat to have his late night snack.
Yoon swirled his tongue over her clit, the taste of her enough to get him intoxicated. The glistening moisture around her thigh made his mouth water. He wanted to draw as much sound from this woman as he could. He would never tire of this taste; this aroma. She smelled sweet and dangerous. A deadly draught.
She was a poison that he would happily drink, the promise of unparalleled ecstasy at the core of her being.
Her moans permeated the room, lost along the silk folding screens and the sheer curtains as her own sweat soaked into the silk bedroll. She quivered under his touch, his kiss, from everything he was doing to her and more. He pulled back from her folds, his lips shining with the leftovers of her essence and proof of the meal he’d indulged in. Kalina moved to kiss him, but Yoon stopped her with a gentle clasp of his fingers around her throat - bearing the brunt of his weight on his other arm that was braced just on the other side of her head.
Yoon selfishly licked his lips, cleaning his mouth of every drop of her. He wouldn’t share. Not even with her and it was hers to begin with. He teased her folds with the tip of his erection as he felt her hips rise up to meet his own with a subtle push. His teeth snapped as he hissed, his dark eyes meeting her smoldering greens. He had her where he wanted her. Where he needed her. The level of restraint he was holding back made his arms tremble.
The look on her face, that look, was for no one else. Just him. The way her heart beat in her chest? It was for him. Kalina was the most beautiful thing he’d ever seen in his life. The way the candlelight flickered across her body, cascading golden rays like the morning sun long her skin, was surreal. It was unfair. Why had the gods done this to him? Created a woman so blindingly beautiful with enough power to make any fearless man’s blood run cold? And he could not have her the way he wanted her; could not possess her the way he desired.
There were feral noises coming from Yoon as he leaned upward. Moving to his knees, he grasped Kalina’s hips and pulled her toward him. Her green eyes danced from the firelight and it nearly stole his breath away.
“Yoon-ah,” she half-sobbed, causing Yoon’s erection to swell even more. He was going to shatter and be dust in the wind if she said his name that way again. All it would take was one more croon from her voice and he would be ruined.
Ruined as he’d been ruined time and again by the sorceress.
He could stand it no longer! Yoon held her hips in his hands as he lowered his body. “Not yet,” he murmured, his hooded gaze roving over her body, “wait for me, Kalina…” His own form trembled as he settled her over the head of his throbbing erection.
Yoon bit down on the lower swell of his lip, holding her steady as her legs seemed to open up even further for him. He was drunk off her scent, his vision growing hazy for only a split second before righting itself.
Rolling his hips, he couldn’t help the narcissistic smirk that painted over his features as her legs moved to knock into his sides in an almost vain attempt to wrap them around him. Her heat squeezed him in a multitude of ways and the pleasure that he coaxed out of her was intoxicating - her mewls of strained lust urging him onward with each moment he drove into her. The sorceress’ nails dug into his biceps, gliding up the sweat-soaked surface up to his shoulders before grasping onto the meat of the muscle there.
Tiny puffs of air lifted from her swollen lips - lips that he’d teased and pulled at with his fingers. She was getting close and so was Yoon. His tempo accelerated gradually, a low growl pushing from his throat as he watched her rutting her hips against the slickness of his shaft - their pelvic bones crashing into each other with unbridled need.
Her cry of desperation echoed throughout the room, filling the space both around and between them. This spurred him on, reaching the edge of his own need for release as he felt the stinging pain of her nails dragging along his skin. There would be marks but it was of no consequence to him. He would deal with them before he began his journey. There would be questions but no answers would be given.
Heat spread through, filling her with everything until he was well and truly spent. The young woman beneath him had already succumbed to the pleasure she was given, her orgasm making her limbs grow weak.
Bucking his hips into her one more time, Yoon rode out the rest of his aftermath before slipping out of her with ease.
Rolling onto his side, he pulled Kalina with him so that she could nestle into the crook of his arm. For a while, all they did was share in heavy breathing as they attempted to recover. Yoon didn’t worry about falling asleep and someone finding them in that state in the morning. Kalina always left before the break of dawn, something that he mourned in the darkest corner of his heart. But decorum was standard in the Joseon Royal Court, something even he must adhere to.
He closed his eyes as her fingers traced over his brow, sweeping a few sweat-soaked locks from his cheek and tucking them behind his ear. Taking in another deep breath, he brought her just a bit closer to savor her warmth and scent.
“My poor, sad Prince,” she whispered, causing his eyes to snap open as he peered at her. Her expression looked solemn and Yoon wondered if Kalina was about to go to that far away place he could never reach. “So much pain. So much sorrow.” Her fingers, once again, combed through his hair. “So...unnecessary.”
Kalina’s words were cryptic. They always were. But they held a deeper meaning somehow.
“When you were a child, you were afraid, weren’t you?”
Yoon blinked, his lips parting slightly. “What nonsense do you speak, Kalina?”
Her eyes lingered on his for a handful of seconds before she pulled at his hair, pressing it between her fingers. “Your hair wasn’t always this fair. Once, it was darker than black.” It wasn’t a question. “Stories of unrest in the palace reached your ears. The struggles of your father in his youth before he was placed on the throne.” Her eyes lifted to look into his face. “Stories of bloodshed.”
An angry knot of pain began to form in Yoon’s chest. She didn’t need to finish this story. He knew it better than anyone. Being the oldest prince guaranteed that he was the next to obtain the crown. And while he had younger siblings, they were all princesses or far too young to even begin taking steps toward resting it away from him; his birthright.
But the fear was still there, gnawing at the back of his mind. His fear led to impulsive decisions. One of them being the ingestion of poisons. Not just one type, but multiple types. All at once. At the age of nine, he nearly died. The physicians were beginning to think that there was no hope.
The Heavens, however, had other plans. They helped him to survive; overcoming his own crazed attempts at ending his life. The result? His hair transformed from jet black to platinum blonde. It happened over the course of one week. There was no explanation for it other than his own body’s form of retaliation to the death that attempted to claim him.
Yoon was officially installed as the Crown Prince the following year.
He was pulled from his thoughts as he felt Kalina’s fingers slowly moving from above his right brow and down below his eye. They stopped just at the halfway mark from his lips and mouth. Something crossed her features, a somber expression, and he could only look upon her with mild wonder.
“This face will be marred someday,” she whispered softly, “but that day will not be tomorrow or the day after.”
Yoon sputtered a small laugh. “Mine will, you say?” He let his hand rest at the curve of her hip. “I’ve trained my body and mind extensively, sorceress. Unless it is you, no one would be able to get close enough to harm me.”
Because she was the only person he ever lowered his defenses for.
“You are a powerful and cunning young tiger, it is true,” came her gentle reply, “but that does not mean that your tail cannot be grabbed.”
His eyes narrowed. He wanted to question her; to demand an answer and determine the reasoning behind her ominous words. It was a warning, clearly. But a warning of what?
Before he could ask, however, Kalina was already pulling herself from his embrace and retrieving her robes. He sat up slowly, grabbing his own robe and draping it over his shoulders. Shuffling to his desk, he retrieved the hairpin and waited for her to finish wrapping herself up. Just as she cinched the wide silk waistband around her midsection, he began to pull up her hair. Her head turned slightly but he used his hand to keep her head facing forward.
“My Prince?”
“Shh,” he hushed, moving to gather up her thick waves in one hand, “let me do this for you.”
She hummed her assent, waiting for him to finish. It only took a handful of seconds to fully secure her hair in the pearl hairpin. Her hand moved to trace her fingers over the hair ornament and she glanced over her shoulder at him.
“Is it beautiful?” she asked while smiling up at him.
“It pales in comparison to you, sorceress, but it will have to do.”
Yoon cupped her chin in his hand, lifting her face up to meet his as he captured her lips in his own. They were dangerously close, but he held himself back. If he pursued any further, he would not let her leave.
He would cage her forever.
He watched her rise gracefully from the floor, the hem of her robes sweeping over the bamboo flooring. Every single curve of her form defied logic and as he watched her opening up the portal to leave, part of Yoon truly did want to capture her; to claim her as his and no one else’s. It was a selfish, hungry and dangerous desire, but it was there all the same. He could not ignore it.
With a soft gaze, she smiled and dipped her head low. “Your journey will be free of perils and you will obtain success. Have no fear, my Crown Prince.”
And like a dream, she disappeared into the void, dousing the candle flames and leaving Yoon to ponder her words as everything plunged into darkness.
