How do you think a meeting with current spy and au spy go down?

Retired!Spy:

He’d be mixed with a great sense of disgust and self-loathing. On one hand, seeing how this version of him chose to abandon his family and now torments him is burning. Canon!Spy seems immature to him. Like he went stale 20 years ago and hasn’t evolved since.

On the other hand, having lived through making the decision of staying or leaving himself, he sees an objectively better world here. Jeremy is still alive. He’s angrier and less refined from an absence of his fathers guidance, but he’s ALIVE. And seems to be happy with his life. Spy staying with his family directly lead to the death of his Jeremy which came from a haunting of his past life.

The only thing that he can truly say is worse is his own life. Years of guilt come around confirming to him that his decision to stay and try to make a new life was inherently a selfish one.

That being said, he does internally adopt/rescue Jeremy from Canon!Spy. Like “you don’t deserve this, this is mine now.”

Canon!Spy:

Canon spy has much less of an emotional roller coaster before him. He doesn’t know the Scout that he raised. He doesn’t have anything to compare or contrast to. His focus is mainly on this other him and any possible threat it is.

He accepts the other reality of his situation very easily and surprisingly with little interest.

However, when Scout had disappeared, he was running himself ragged and worried trying to find him. He got angry and dangerous, even confronting the Administrator. This confused and scared the hell out of his team who’d only seen him annoyed and nagging on Scout.

After everything is settled down, he and Retired!Spy have a heart to heart. They talk about the decision they each made that made them different people, since they were the same up until one left and one stayed.

He asks about how Scout was growing up. How being in a real relationship with his mother was. He mourns a life he never got to have, but is reassured by Retired!Spy that he made the right choice. Even then, he isn’t sure. 20 years of a happy home seems like a lot to give up for him.

They each make the other feel a little less guilty.

Headcanon that despite being pompous, arrogant, and a bit of a jerk, the spy is actually a really good teacher… if someone is interested in a subject that the spy knows a lot about (fashion, French, stabbing people in the back, etc.) he will eagerly spend time one on one with that person to teach them about it. He’s also super patient, too, provided the learner doesn’t decide to goof off and actually takes him seriously. He’s also very encouraging and doesn’t laugh at mistakes or misunderstandings. Just. A good teacher right there
