like. picture this. you come from a society of pacifists whose primary objective is scientific research. you’re raised by an ambassador whose entire job is mediation and conflict avoidance. every action you take must be completely rooted in logic.

your whole life, you’re alienated by your human ancestry, and you adhere to the Vulcan way of life almost compulsively because of it.

and then, you get into the Vulcan Science Academy - you’ve finally proved you’re JUST as good as your fully Vulcan peers! you could finally fit in! you could bring honor to your father!

but. instead of accepting the offer and living an honorable, Vulcan life, exactly what you’ve been preparing for YOUR ENTIRE LIFE. you ENLIST. in what is frankly, for all intents and purposes, a military organization, where you could (and likely will) have to obey orders irregardless of their logic.

FURTHERMORE. you will be ordered to kill, which goes against everything you have ever known. and you will, in some cases, be forced to order a crewman to his death.
