                Nick    nods,    looking    up    from    the    piece    of    paper    in    his    hand.    Usually    his    nights    are    spent    alone    anyways,    with    a    bottle    of    whiskey    in    his    hand...    after    he's    kicked    out    the    person    he's    brought    home.    Half    the    time    it's    just    cocaine    for    dinner.

                Brows    raise    as    she    shovels    a    fork    full    of    food    into    her    mouth.    Holly    stops    mid    chew    to    stare    at    her    neighbor    once    more.    A    moment    later    she    continues    chomping    down    and    leans    back,    and    exhale    escaping    from    her    nostrils.

                "    I'll    only    say    it    cause    it's    you-    anyone    else    and    I'd    lose    my    job    over    it.    "    She's    expendable.    He    is    not.    "    Fine.    Absolutely    just    fine.    "

in  fact,  there  was  nothing  between  her  and  the  sergeant  except  for  countless  rumors  fate  had  not  yet  found  the  source  of.  it  was  still  funny  to  continue  toying  with  the  subject,  saying  things  like  that  in  the  middle  of  a  mess  hall  for  the  curious  ears  to  hear.
