I can't imagine Americans explicitly want to drive to the store, but inflation and expansion have stretched the fabric of our nation, that is to say, the people, far apart. You can witness it everywhere, from farms being expanded due to new larger, more capable tools being invented, to urban families revolving around a culture of moving out and/or attending a university when "of age". It's a sad thing, really, to see elders left alone so frequently since their kids have no desire to take care of them, and have thus moved out.

It's easy to forget that positions like

"We shouldn't have to drive to the grocery store"

And "multifamily housing should exist in all neighborhoods"

Are incredibly unpopular in America
