Since my Miku post got so many likes, if any of you give a shit, please take a moment to look into the YouTube "COPPA" situation

So. I am very very bad at explaining crisis situations, so I am going to vaguely sum it up and then link to you all videos by content creators that are at risk of going entirely out of business because of this situation.

YouTube recently got into trouble for "collecting information about children" which basically I believe means kids made accounts on YouTube and they got in trouble for that. Their sollution is to flag ANY. AND. ALL. CONTENT. THAT "APPEALS TO CHILDREN" What is their definition of "appeals to children"? Basically anything that universally appeals to kids and adult alike. Do you draw? You are appealing to kids. Do you like music? You are appealing to kids. Do you use bright colors to get people to click on your videos? You are appealing to kids. Like toys? Dolls? Snacks? Cartoons? Do you animate? Do you voice act? Do you say the fucking word FUN??? If you do any of this shit and more, and your video includes swears or anything "not COPPA compliant" you will be fined thousands of dollars. This is a literal law and you all need to do something about this. People could end up HOMELESS.

So now this is the part where I am going to link several videos about this that go into depth about this and why it is harmful. Some of these videos, if not all of them, will link you to resources such as a petition, a place to write to the FTC and the conference discussing the law.

This was meant to be a quick warm up, but it turned into a comic that I’ve wanted to draw for a while. This is something that is extremely important to me, and I appreciate it if you read it.

A while ago, I heard a story that broke my heart. A family went a cat shelter to adopt. The daughter fell in love with a 3-legged cat. The father straight up said “absolutely not”. Because he was missing a leg. That cat was that close to having a family that loved him, but the missing leg held him back. Why?!

Many people have the initial instinct of “nope” when they see an imperfect animal. I get it, but less-adoptable does NOT mean less loveable. 9 out of 10 people will choose a kitten over an adult cat. And those 10% that would get an adult cat often overlook “different” animals.

All I want people to do is be open to the idea of having a “different” pet in their lives. Choose the pet that you fall in love with, but at least give all of them a fair shot at winning your heart.

Don’t dismiss them, they deserve a loving home just as much as any other cat. They still purr, they still love a warm lap, they still play, they still love you. Trust me, next time you are in the market for a new kitty, just go over to that one cat that’s missing an eye and see what he’s all about!
