Oc tober day 26 âwriting a letterâ
Prompts by @icannotreadcursive @thepromptfoundry
âDear Mother
I am sorry for not writing to you for such a long period of time, It was not my intention but I had a run in with some bad men who took me as their captive wishing to use my abilities as a witch to make them some quick money. Do not worry I am alright now, I was rescued and offered a home by my rescuer and his brother, a pair of princes.
They are very very strange but sincerely kind to me I believe I will be safe and happy here and wish to happily lend them my services; they really need it.
I do so hope you will come and visit as soon as you are able
Your Loving Daughter Rosalieâ
OC-tober Day 24
500 words and we're only just getting to the actual prompt (from @icannotreadcursive), which is "Being cared for by someone they love." But 500! words!! yay!
Verry left her boarding house after lunch on Saturday, not able to face an entire afternoon pretending nothing was wrong. She called Josieâs lodgings from a pay phone, but they still hadnât seen her. So Verry bicycled around aimlessly for a while, and then found herself near Fredâs apartment and decided she might as well visit.
It was only after she had already gone in that she realized she hadnât visited alone before, but the doorman didnât look censorious. âIs Mr. Kennell in?â she asked.
âYes, miss. Go right on up,â he said. Verry went, relieved; she didnât think she could have stood an accusation of immorality today.
Fred answered his door quickly after her knock. âOh, hello Verry,â he said cheerfully. âLooking for Tom?â
âI wasnât actually. Is he here?â
âWell, as a matter of fact he is. Do come in and sit down. Would you like some tea?â
Tom was sitting on Fredâs chesterfield, holding a book. Verry started for the armchair nearby, but there was a newspaper on the seat so she sat next to Tom. âOh, please donât bother,â she said. âI just had lunch.â
âHow are you?â Tom asked.
Verry replied politely and made conversation, about her bike ride and the weather and what was in Fredâs paper, but Tom kept giving her concerned looks. She realized she was tapping her fingers and got her crochet work out of her bag. Sheâd tossed it in without thinking when she left, and the hook had slipped out, so she focused on finding her place, which kept her hands busy.
âFred said you met someone you knew at Ritaâs?â Tom asked.
âYes, Eileen,â Verry confirmed absently.
âIs she whatâs worrying you?â
âNo, Iâm not worried,â Verry said. Tom frowned at her, not harshly but worried himself, and Verry sighed. âI donât suppose either of you have heard from Josie?â
âNo,â Tom said, looking at Fred.
Fred shook his head. âNo, but I wouldnât expect to. She wouldnât have my address. Have you not heard from her?â
âNot since Monday,â said Verry, crocheting automatically. âAnd that was just a postcard saying not to worry about her. But I went to her lodgings yesterday and they said she hasnât been there since Thursday. And sheâs doing dangerous things, and of course we canât ask the police for help, and Iâm just dreadfullyâworried, yes.â Tom patted her knee. âYouâre sure neither of you have heard anything from her, or about her?â
They exchanged glances. âVerry,â Tom said gently, âIâve met her once. If you havenât heard from her, she wonât have written either of us.â
âOh, I know,â said Verry. âIâm just worrying. I know it wonât do any good. Letâs talk about something else.â She got to the end of a row and looked down at her work. Sheâd crocheted a solid line of blocks right in the middle of the pattern. âOh, damn!â she said, and then she burst into tears.
âPoor dear,â Tom said, wrapping his arms around her. Verry sobbed onto his shoulder.
Eventually there was a clunk, and Verry looked around to see Fred putting a tea tray onto the side table. âHere you are,â he said, smiling awkwardly. Tom offered Verry his handkerchief. Verry wiped her eyes and blew her nose and took a cup of tea when Fred offered it.
Day 25: Encountering a ghost

OC-tober Day 23: Kisser enjoying a nice drink
Recently, Iâve been working on a Star Wars fic with a higher than usual number of OCs. The fic isnât posted yet, but I thought I might put a few of these out there.
The original post is here by @icannotreadcursive.
Day 1
~+~
Kisser sits nervously at a small table in his Generalâs quarters. It isnât the first time heâs been here, not even the first time heâs sat at this table, but he canât quite feel that itâs normal. Yet, he hopes. For all his nerves, he wants to be here.
General Kenobi sets a tea tray at the table, pouring them each a cup before he sits. Itâs a pale green, with a gently floral scent.
âThis is a popular blend from Naboo,â he says, a little bit of the teacher slipping into his voice. Itâs good to hear. âItâs lighter than the Iridonian Jasmine we had last time, I thought it might better suit your palate.â
âI mean,â Kisser grins, lifting the warm cup gently, âhard to see how less flavor is better, but I trust you.â
âAnd I trust you to give your honest opinion,â General Kenobi says, with a smile of his own.
The tea is hot but not scalding, so Kisser takes a careful sip. ItâsâŠwell, itâs hot water a flower had thought about once but not actually spoken to. In the most pleasant way possible, but still.
The General is chuckling before Kisser even says anything.
âItâs better than the last one,â Kisser says diplomatically. That only seems to make it funnier, as General Kenobi descends into outright giggles. Desperately, he adds, âitâs the caf, all my tastebuds are gone, you know! Iâm sure this is a really nice tea!â
âNo, no,â the General waves him off, âItâs quite all right. You are far from the only person to dislike the hot leaf water.â
âI donât dislike it!â Kisser says, taking a large flavorless sip to prove his point.
For some reason, this makes the General laugh even harder.
âThank you for your staunch support of my vices, Kisser,â he says, unable to quite manage the somber tone heâs playing at.Â
Over the rest of their conversation, Kisser loyally helps finish the pot.
