”without sound”

he put the noise-cancelling headphones over his ears, frail body parts that had exposed him to many unpleasant sounds throughout his life. these headphones, while quite expensive, promised a silence kamishiro could have only ever dreamed of.

“how are they, love?”

rui had to read tsukasa’s lips, unable to hear him at all. how.. odd. he was standing hardly a foot from rui, but not a sound. now that he thought about it, he couldn’t hear the construction going on outside either.

“flawless..” rui answered, but he wouldn’t even be sure he’d spoken if not for the vibration in his throat.

the perfect headphones, finally his.

he went through the day, feeling disconnected. it was peaceful. he sat at his computer, typing but not hearing it.

he left for his 11 am class, silence as he watched the approaching bus from the stop. all of his other senses were in top shape, almost working better, but his hearing was like a monitor flatline.

this was the most peace he’d ever felt.

tsukasa noticed it too. when rui came home from classes, he was usually a bit frazzled and needed an hour or so to recharge. but today was different. he was calm and smiling, greeting tsukasa when he walked in.

“you’re in a good mood,” tsukasa quipped as he walked up to rui.

rui couldn’t make out most of what tsukasa had said, tilting his head in the nature of a dog to imply his confusion.

“ah, never mind.” tsukasa corrected himself, waving his hand as if to brush away his former comment.

that night went well. until it was time to sleep. the silence was beginning to feel lonely, and the headset was starting to hurt. rui loved the silence, but not the absence of his lover’s voice.

so he took off the headphones, setting them on the bedside table before cuddling back up to tsukasa. the noises were clear to him now— the distant construction, the humming of the a/c, and the soft breathing of the person beside him. but he’d get used to it again.

OC-tober Day 27: Kisser meeting someone important to him for the first time

Recently, I’ve been working on a Star Wars fic with a higher than usual number of OCs. The fic isn’t posted yet, but I thought I might put a few of these out there.

Day 1

RT-1010 wasn’t really awake. He hadn’t been able to sleep before shipping out, and he was paying for it. Melt and Cackle hadn’t stopped mocking him until their transport docked in the Negotiator’s landing bay.

Pants and Scowls, the Vode in charge of retrieving the 212th’s newest troopers from Kamino, had warned them they were going to gawk like the shinies they were. Cackle lost his bet with them the moment the flagship was in sight.

It was overwhelming–exactly like the training materials and nothing like them at all. There was something, a feeling, that took over RT-1010 as he stared. The Negotiator was almost alive unto itself, vibrant for all that it lacked decoration. Welcoming in a way RT-1010 couldn’t articulate.
