"Fight, Flight, Freeze, Fawn" Part 2 : The League of Villains!
(You can't understand how happy I am to see that the first one really interested people!!)
So Touya/Dabi was already made in Part 1
1st, let's start with Toga. We know her past, she was seen as weird, a freak, disgusting by her own family (I heard she had siblings, so even as far as them). But during years, she faked being a "perfect little child" that listened and was calm and "normal". Her family confronted her behaviours and she was in a full Fawn mode. One day, her mask that she forced onto herself fell and all her repressed needs, who are in her D.N.A., came as they could. The need of blood made her attack someone. This feeling of finally being free (herself) brought her to the LOV and to find a family that accept her and her "abnormal" behaviour. She seems to actually only need that, a family, and when she can (like in the Yakuza mess), she'd rather Flight the conflict. However if her family is targeted (like with Magne and Twice), or when her family gives her orders to, she will Fight. Because she just wants to keep her found family.
2nd is Twice. Pretty much like Toga, he only needed a family. Due to his mental instability, his fears and his self-doubts, he could have been a Freeze and not react, be stucked while facing confrontation (kinda like what we can see even before with his old boss). Though he trusted his new family so much that he was, like Toga, either going for the Flight or the Fight depending of how much his family needed him. (Though a bit more of a Flight then Toga before season 6, still because of his insecurities and fears of fighting eating his confidence away).
3rd Mister Compress. We don't see much of him, we just know that thieves are normal and biological in his family. So I would say that confronted, Compress may prefer to go for the Flight. Fighting would be if an irrespectful act is commited but he wouldn't stay doing nothing, or wouldn't dirty himself for a random person.
4th, Spinner. We know he's a follower. He follow Stain blindly because he doesn't know what else to do, then Shigaraki because he becomes a good leader, and listens to Dabi because he sees him as superior. He doesn't really have his own way of thinking and weighting the good and the bad side of his decisions. His "primary leaders" being Fighters, he would immediatly Fight back too. Same as Toga and Twice for the found family part, if his family is threatened, he will Fight for them. But before the LOV he was definitely a Freeze. Lizard side or not, he seemed to be very "NPC"-like towards his life, so no much reaction to confrontation before he had a goal.
5th is Shigaraki himself. He's a Fight. Confrontation = Fight for him, he was raised that way. OFA raised him that way. He won't be a perfect silent person, he won't say nothing and stay still, he won't escape from the situation. He yearns for a new society, a new reign, he wants to see a country and the world crumbles. A full Fight made to be like that by OFA.
Bonus because he was asked!
Stain : Stain to me would respond by Fight or Flight. But while his Fight would be very direct (you confront him, he confronts back), his Flight would be controlled. He doesn't want to avoid a situation of confrontation because he is scared, how because that's how his mind instinctly answers, he just doesn't want to confronts and will leave instead. But this situation is pretty rare, it's the type of situation we can only see with All Might (because he is worthy enough to be a hero by Stain's psychology). Stain would, and that's what we can see with anyone else until now, only attack and kill because he sees the "unseriousness" of being a hero, the need for fame and not actual saving as a unique goal, as a threat to the job of being a hero.
I hope I didn't forget anyone.
Thanks to have been there for my little talk, if you have anything, professional or not to say or ask you can gladly interact I'l be very happy! ♡♡♡

"Fight, Flight, Freeze, Fawn" Part 4 : Class 1A 1/4
(I will do it in multiple parties because I don't see myself doing 20 person in one night, sorry! Also, tell me who are the next ones in class 1A you want to see!)
For now I'll do in the class order!
1st, Yuga Aoyama! Faced by confrontation, Yuga is mainly a Flight. He doesn't really answer to what is asked of him, or he completely run away or hide before the confrontation can be made (like in the Dabi situation in season 3). Though we can see, like with many people in this serie, that when others are in danger, he can start to act differently. He starts to have a more Fight/confrontational side when he brings pigeons to Koda with his light (in season 3 I think), or even easier to see, when he confronts Ochako to her feelings and he go straight to ask if she has a crush on Midoriya.
2nd, Mina. Same for Mina, but we can see that her Fight is way more present. She confront Ochako's feeling too, but she also protects her friends from Makia in middle school, despite feeling petrified. Sadly, this is a traumatic experience that leads her to freeze when she attacks him in the latest season. But it's an exception, because she clearly never backs down to say or do what she wants!
3rd is Tsu! Tsu is a cold blooded fighter. We see her many times speaking her mind and not being afraid to : Try and drown Mineta, Speak her mind to Aizawa, Talk back to an angry Bakugo. But when the group tried to go and save Bakugo, she said it herself that she didn't dare to calm them down and tell them to not go. So when her mind and heart are conflicted (not letting them to risk their lives/saving a classmate) she Freezes.
4th, Iida. Do I have anything more to say than the Stain situation? Yeah I do but it'll only come back to the same thing. Iida went to fight Stain to take revenge, then he followed Deku to save Bakugo (not without a punch to his face), then was on the front line to get him back to UA. He is a Fight. Not only does he Fight back or Fight when it is needed, like many others, and he might be the leader of the class, but Iida GOES for the fight by himself.
5th, Ochako. Strong girl too, she has as an only goal to Fight, and it shows in her reaction to confrontation too. The best example of that is her beautiful speech on top of the UA roof in the latest season. Even if she is scared to say something, she will be the one to say it if no one else does. She speaks up when she sees that someone can't, defends people that needs her to help them by doing her best (her speech but also the simple fact of being in a hero course to win money for her parents). Only exeption there too is for herself, avoiding her feelings for Midoriya.

"Fight, Flight, Freeze, Fawn" Part 6 : Class 1A 3/4
1st, Shoji. I would say that Shoji is a Fight too, like many people in class 1A. I'd say he is because of the Dark Shadow situation in season 3, that he handled with calm and reactivity. BUT he has a bit of Flight and Freeze. Flight because if he can, he will listen to orders and flee the situation that he is in. Freeze because if he knows that someone has a plan, he will wait for them to say it (Midoriya with Dark Shadow or Momo with Saiko Intelli). What we can see in all the situation though is that he won't fight for no reason.
2nd is Jiro. She is half a Flight, we can see it in season 1 (when she hides with Momo), and even how she throws Denki to the villains instead, we can see that in season 3 (?) when she is against Saiko and let's Momo decide or also when she tries to escape the singing situation at first in season 5 or Mic in another season. But she is also half a Fight because she was ready to deal with Class 1B before Bakugo arrived, she also loves to tease him and Denki and all the times she shocks the pervs.
3rd will be Sero. Sero is pretty much a Fight. We know he never keeps his voice for himself, and says spontaneous stuff without sometimes thinking about it (Momo and how her quirk works in season 3). But he also apologize when he notice he said/did something bad. When faced with Midoriya in season 6, or with Midnight in season 2(?), he's also not scared to go close to them and fight. He also loves to tease Bakugo with a death wish as topping.
For the 4th one we have Tokoyami. He has a bit of a Freeze in him, as we can see with how he calmfully but still unknowingly looks at Hawks when the latter gave him his bird enigma with percentages and all. Or how he tries to avoid everyone going into his dorm. But with Dark Shadow reacting to his feelings, we can see he's a good Fight because of how Mina get attacked (in the second movie), or anyone else, and how he reacts by letting Dark Shadow got wild.
And last for today is Todoroki, but I already explained his situation in the first part.

"Fight, Flight, Freeze, Fawn" Part 5 : Class 1A 2/4
(Still in class order)
We'll start with Ojiro. Ojiro is a fight too, he's used to Fights and handle confrontations very calmly, but he will always defend his points in respect but firmly.
Kaminari is a Freeze/Fawn/Fight. In battles he is a fight/flight, he'd rather go far away but knows he has to do it and fight so he listens and does it. But with confrontation it's different. With Bakugo, confrontation is a game but it depends with who he has a confrontation. If it's something he planned (the pom pom girl situation), he'll happily fight back. If it's someone yelling at him, or a teacher grounding him, he tried to Fawn in most cases, to say nothing more and sadly agrees. But when he can avoid a situation when he did a big mistakes, or when it's too serious, he leaves.
3rd, Kirishima. For Kirishima, this part of him is his whole background in the anime. The fact that he was Freezing in scary hero-like confrontation. He was still going for the Fight when it was just an altercation with some classmates, but that was not enough for him. And now he changed to not be afraid and go for the confrontation.
4, we have Koda. Despite having change on combat style, becoming more conflictual and less scared, he's still shy and would still Freeze with a simple non-fighting confrontation.
And last, Sato. We unfortunately don't know much about him. We know he cause to punch in battles, but how does he reacts to someone confronting him verbally? I guess it would be fight too for two reasons. One is when Cementoss was fighting against him and Kirishima, that pissed him off and he kept yelling and punching but nothing more. The other is when Midoriya got shot throught the head by Bakugo's side mask, and he was the first one to react to the situation. But that's all I have :(

Part 6 : Class 1A 3/4
Is it my "Had philosophy classes and french classes about symbolism of texts that probably never had this much symbolism" who's doing that to me or is it just an angel bringing the infinite knowledge over us?
#livingforthat #paragraphpersonbutbettercauseyouneverhadtoaskthem
The park flashback/scene where Tenko plays with Mikkun and Tomo-chan in Chapter 418 first takes place in early afternoon, as evidenced by the clock reading almost 2:00 PM.
The art in the scene confirms this: clear bright skies, and the shadows under the children are short.
However, the time in the scene changes after Mikkun and Tomo-chan tells Tenko he should be All Might (the moment Tenko decides he wants to be a Hero, as he tells his mom in Chapter 235). Suddenly it's evening: the clock shows 6:13 PM, and the sky darkening because it's nearing sunset.
When Shigaraki/Tenko thinks of the League, he and the League (and Deku) all have long shadows, the kind you see when the sun is low in the sky.
*
The context:
Sunset is the time to go home. Children who have been playing outside, in playgrounds, at the park, are supposed to go home, to get back in time for dinner, back to their families.
In Japan, many cities and towns have a bell/chime/song that plays from public loudspeakers at around 5:00 PM. It's a daily test of an emergency broadcast system, but it has also come to be seen as the evening bell, a 'go home' signal, especially for children, telling them to go home before it gets dark.
In manga and anime, all these elements have become common imagery and symbolism, associated with each other: red-orangey colors, sunset, long shadows, the chime, children saying goodbye to their playmates for the day, the idea of home and return.
(from Mushishi)
*
Putting it all together:
When the park scene first shows up, it's Tenko memory of playing with Mikkun and Tomo-chan, likely exactly how it had occurred in real life: it's early afternoon, the sun is shining bright, their shadows are short, they're at the park, they're playing Heroes, and when the kids tell Tenko that he should be All Might, Tenko is overjoyed.
But this isn't the scene 15-16 years ago; this is a memory. Tenko is also Shigaraki here. He has just had his core pried open by Deku, and given relief. The Crying Child has been symbolically saved, but the past, the massacre, the Walk still all happened.
So it's suddenly 6:13 PM, it's sunset now, because it's way past proper time (5:00 PM) to go home - because Shigaraki/Tenko can't go home to the Shimura house. It's too late. It's been long over.
Shigaraki/Tenko then looks away from Mikkun and Tomo-chan, to the side, and say, 'Nah' to their suggestion, because besides it being late, he also no longer wants to be All Might. He's deciding he's a Villain, he still holds malice and he still destroys.
So, the scene changes again to contains the League now, all six of them (plus Deku). They exist in this sunset time, hence their long shadows. They exist with current Shigaraki/Tenko, they exist in the now - and arguably, they would be the home he would return to at sunset.
-
Up to interpretation, of course, but the sunset/going home context is real.
Japanese tweets about it (translated):
[When Tenko got the words he wanted, his eyes lit up, but it was past time to go home so I'm guessing that means "it's too late."]
[It is just heartening that the League members are the place where Tomura would return to when it was "time to go home." I'm sobbing]
[In the scene where Tenko is at the park, the clock is already past 6:00 PM, the time when good kids go home, so if he had met Deku a little earlier, Deku might have been able to stop him, but this seems to show that they're past that stage now, which is good.]
