Hello! I'm back in TW after a year-long break of it and I can't believe the many things that happened while I was gone 😭 The first years used to be my favourites but Diasomnia has been growing on me recently, especially Malleus and Silver haha

Anyway, can I have some platonic hcs for Malleus? Reader is a very clingy type of friend, always clinging at someone's arms or giving hugs but for some reasons, they never do any of these to him... The reason is that they're scared of making him uncomfortable and crossing his boundaries + Sebek constantly at their throat for acting too friendly with his beloved ✨Waka-sama✨ 😩

Malleus with a very clingy type of friend

Malleus is so confused and slightly hurt at first

he sees you hugging and holding onto other people so why not him?

he's so :(

do you find him intimidating like everyone else does?

are you too scared to touch him?

but he doesn't want to mention it in case you feel forced to do it

so he sulks silently as you hug Silver and not him

and then he'll ask Lilia later why might you not hug him

Lilia will just tell him that he should ask you and explain that you don't have to if you don't want to

so Malleus does

and he's shocked at your reasoning

all this time...you were worried about his comfort???

all his hurt feelings have instantly been replaced by how touched he is

that's so considerate of you

but he assures you that it does not cross his boundaries or make him uncomfortable

in fact, he would be honored to receive one of your hugs

when you do hug him he is elated

he wants more hugs now

whenever you see Malleus, he's now putting his arms out for a hug

now you probably hug Malleus more than you do anyone else

he's very happy that you're even willing to touch him

Sebek on the otherhand...

he's very upset

how dare you be so close to his master and even touching him!

do you have no respect?

that's a future king that you're acting so casual and close with!

if anyone should be able to hug Malleus it should be him!

but he could never

Sebek will shout at you when he sees you holding onto Malleus

but if you let go then Malleus will start lecturing Sebek

so Sebek sulks in silence

i'm literally crying what the hell. how did an anime about assassins adopting a daughter end up being one of the best written shows i've ever watched in my life

Now that Buddy Daddies is finished, I’m gonna say it: SPOILERS!

Buddy Daddies really is for the aces, aros, queerplatonic partners, and platonic life partners out there. 

I know, 100%  that there are going to be some people out there that are going to say, “See! It really was just queerbait all along” or some who are going to bemoan the fact that there were no declarations of romantic love or kiss or whatever. I’m sure this part right here:

Miri: “Didn’t you slip out yesterday to go drinking with a girl again?” 

Caused some frowns and I do get it. Because of this, the queerbait and Kazuki and Rei are just friends dialogue will continue and follow the series around. But, this episode has made it clear that Kazuki and Rei love not only Miri, but each other as well.

They are a work partners (相棒 - aibou)

They are partners raising a child together. (相方 - aikata).

They’ve moved (I’m pretty sure their diner is in Okinawa for reasons I’ll get to in another post), they’ve opened a business together, one which has a part of Kazuki’s last name in it (来栖 - Kurusu is his last name, the 栖 (su) part of his name means “nest.”), and Rei’s words to his father: Miri, Kazuki, and I share a bond stronger than blood. 

They are a family. They love each other.

Of course, friends can be a part of a family. Friends can love each other, but there are also reasons why people who are in situations like co-parenting, queerplatonic relationships, platonic life partnerships, and etc. don’t refer to their bonds as friendships and the people they are co-parenting or in a partnership with as their friends, but as words that give some space for those grey areas in-between.

Friendships are strong, deep, and beautiful. Platonic love is love and is powerful.

But, there are definitely still different sets of expectations and boundaries that come with friendships vs. other relationship dynamics. 

Kazuki and Rei’s situation falls outside of the usual friendship expectations and boundaries and sits somewhere between that, family and partnership.

I know this topic has been talked to death about. But, I felt like I needed to write about and address it one final time since Buddy Daddies has come to an end (though, who knows about a potential Daughter Daddies!) Especially after Miri’s line to Kazuki. (I feel I could also go into open relationship dynamics, polyamorous relationships, and etc. but that feels like it would be derailing). 

Basically, I just wanted to get one final post out on this. I was very pleased with this ending episode. It made my heart so happy and warm, and I know I’ve said it before, but this series really speaks to me as someone who is aroace. Aroace characters and our relationship dynamics have basically no rep, so even if this series wasn’t intended to be written with a queerplatonic relationship dynamic in mind, they ended up writing a beautiful depiction of one that makes me and what I would want from a relationship of some kind, finally feel seen.

Explicitly Aspec Characters in Japanese Dramas

Japanese shows have been coming through recently with that aro and ace rep! Thought I would put together a list for anyone interested in seeing more aro, ace and aroace characters. Feel free to add on if I've missed any!

Koisenu Futari (TV series) - Takahashi Satoru and Kodama Sakuko

You've probably heard of this show. It has not one but two explicitly aroace characters with very different personalities. The entire show revolves around them figuring out life after identifying as aroace. Takahashi is also canonically touch-averse.

Kimi no Hana ni Naru (TV series) - Onodera Takara

I have not watched the show personally and so am not sure whether he's aro or aroace. Every time I see the translations, they are different, so will update as and when I watch the show for myself. But he does explicitly say he does not experience romantic attraction. This show is also written by the screenwriter of Koisenu Futari.

Cherry Magic (TV series and Movie) - Fujisaki Nozomi

Another gem from the creator of Koisenu Futari. Fujisaki is canonically aroace.

Konya Sukiyaki Dayo (TV Series) - Asano Tomoko

Again, I'm not sure whether Tomoko is aro or aroace but she explicitly says she is aromantic in the show and that she doesn't understand romantic attraction.

Raise de wa Chanto Shimasu (TV Series) - Takasugi Ume

The main character's best friend is explicitly aroace. She says she "isn't capable" of experiencing romantic attraction, admits to never having had sex, and is uncomfortable with people being attracted to her.
