William Henry Fox Talbot Adiantum Capillus-Veneris (Maidenhair Fern), c 1839 Photogenic Drawing (paper negative) 8 9/10 × 7 1/5 inches

Characters that live at Thrushcross Grange are light skinned and have light hair. They are civilized and sometimes considered weak characters. When Catherine Earnshaw fell sick at Wuthering Heights, she was taken to Thrushcross Grange to recover. The Grange is a place of healing and security to many characters.
The inhabitants of Wuthering Heights are brutal and less mannered. Wuthering Heights is parallel to the life of Heathcliff. He is the very spirit of Wuthering Heights. The residence got "narrow windows deeply set in the wall, and the corners defended with large jutting stones." It is also described as a harsh, cold house, with "grotesque carvings" and "pervading spirit of neglect". Not surprisingly, the name is symbolic of its nature.
