How To Enchant Items

How to Enchant Items 🔮

To enchant an item is to infuse it with magickal energy. This energy can come from a variety of sources, including celestial bodies, elements, crystals, herbs, or even yourself.

Some individuals use the words “enchant” and “charm” synonymously as a way to describe the process of infusing something with energy, but for the sake of this post and due to my own beliefs, you enchant something and it then becomes a charm. Alternately, a charm can be something with its own innate energy, like a crystal or herbal amulet.

Enchanting items to turn them into magickal objects involves more than just intent - you must learn to channel and manipulate energy, and direct it into that item for enchanting to be successful.

Although, the process of enchanting is extremely versatile and there are many ways to do it.

Here are a few ideas on how to enchant items, in no particular order:

Surround the item with crystals of corresponding intent

Surround the item with herbs of corresponding intent

Place the item in a jar filled with herbs that represent your intent

Place the item in front of a candle and meditate on your intent

Anoint the item with an oil, charged water, or crystal elixir of corresponding intent

Hold the item in your hand(s) and visualize it filling with the appropriate energy

Hold the item in your hand(s) and speak or sing your intent aloud

Craft a symbol to keep near the item in an envelope or sachet

Sew, stitch, or carve a symbol into the item

Write your intention on paper and keep in an envelope with the item

Pair the item with a corresponding runestone or tarot / oracle card in an envelope

Take the item and put it in a box with other items that represent your intent such as crystals, herbs, talismans, amulets, etc.

Bury the item in soil with herbs and/or crystals that match your intent (please don’t put salt on your lawn though, unless you want dead grass)

Pass the item through incense smoke that matches your intent

Pro Tip: Time your enchantments with the appropriate planetary hour, day of the week, time of day, or lunar phase to increase your chances of creating a successful charm.

Exploring nature with a new perspective. Everything around you sings. The sky, bright blue and full of puffy clouds, bids you good day… the sun and moon are having a dinner date above you. They gaze down upon you lovingly like parents to a child. The ducks chitchat in the pond below you. The water bubbles next to you like nature’s engine chugging along... the trees, bare branched and budding, are stretching their arms and beginning to awaken from their long overwinter slumber. They gift you with a bit of their spirit. You feel like singing. Maybe you do. Nature is beautiful. Life is beautiful.

One thing I’ve really found peace in is that the Gods are just as much modern as they are ancient

They understand that worship in modern times is 9 times out of 10 a solitary practice. In Ancient Hellenic/Greek times, which is the tradition I follow, worship was communal and festivals were entire city events. The Gods get that, they’ve adapted to the times as they’ve needed.

The Gods played an entirely different role in Roman times as they did in the Hellenistic times and the Classical era before that

We have to let the Gods adapt as they let us adapt to the current day—they want to work with us and that doesn’t mean you have to get every detail ‘right’ or do anything at all according to what’s deemed as right based on the books and literature we have

I believe this applies to every God regardless of pantheon or tradition—our Gods are modern Gods, they get it, start with where you are,

How do you connect with the Gods: only source of running water is the sink? There you go you have running water to cleanse in. Don’t have access or the money to use wine for libations? use water or juice. Feeling drawn to forms of witchcraft? Tarot is a perfectly reasonable form of divination to connect with the Gods, praying over a sigil and offering to a God over it is a great way to charge the sigil, and so much more. Don’t have garden to get first fruits from to offer? Pick a fruit or veggie from your shopping trip that you think looks particularly nice and offer that.

Ultimately do things that you find meaningful throughout your day that let you connect with your Gods and let those things change and adapt over time.

We are fluid people and so are the Gods

*this is coming from a hellenic pagan/polytheist perspective can be applied to any practice with the Gods

💫 Why Protection Magic Is Useful (even if you have no enemies)

Why Protection Magic Is Useful (even If You Have No Enemies)

A lot of witches will tell new witches (baby witches) that they should start by learning and using protection magic. However, I've started to see a lot of witches say that protection magic is not as important as other witches claim it to be. Saying that they don't have anyone coming after them or an enemy in real life to warrant a spell of protection.

I think this may also be due to how I've not personally come across anyone really explaining why a witch may want to use protection magic all the time.

Now, it is true that there's no need to be paranoid all the time and have protection up 24/7. But here's a list where you may use it, find it useful, or haven't thought protection magic could be included.

An actual person -- This one is obvious, you have an enemy in real life or on the internet and you need protection magic to protect you from their curses.

A malevolant spirit -- They can come from your windows, mirrors (including tv screens, computer screens, and other reflective surfaces maybe), they seep through floor cracks, hanging onto your coats from outside, etc. Just like how you'd use garden gloves to avoid dirt up your nails being trapped there. Protection magic is just like putting on those gloves.

An energy -- Say you have a neighbour who's arguing with someone. They're yelling and screaming and it can be heard through the apartment walls. That negative energy is seeping into your home and your energy. So it may be worth protecting your home and energy from that sour neighbour's energy. (ever been scolded by your mother and your mood is sour? it's kind of like the same here.)

Your own spell -- Now a self-love spell is probably not something you should protect yourself from. But let's say you're doing a curse. It would be a smart idea to make sure you're protected before beginning such a spell. Much like how you'd wear an apron to protect your clothes from stains when cooking food. You may not always spill your food when cooking, but damn it is it annoying when you do and the stain won't wash off. It's the same with a spell.

Unintentionally -- Sometimes things can happen that's out of our control and it's a good idea to be a little prepared. A black cat suddenly running across the street? Bad luck. Someone got jealous when you told them something good? Evil Eye. Think of it as going to the store with an extra bag for your groceries. You may not need it, but isn't it handy when you at one point do need it?

Protection magic doesn't have to be elaborate or grand or be convoluted. Protection magic is powerful but also extremely simple. All you need is a horseshoe above the door, a little talisman in your pocket, a sigil for your car, etc.

So don't dismiss the importance of protection magic. It may help to improve your spellwork and your energy.

10 Simple Ways to Worship Mother Nature

These could apply to any earthly god or goddess really, so feel free to borrow any ideas that speak to you! And please tell me about how you worship your deity, I'd love to know 💚🪲

Going for daily, mindful walks. Sometimes I'll listen to music, other times I'll just listen to the world around me.

Wear a lot of greens and browns, as well as recycled and more sustainable fabrics (a lot of my clothes are also thrifted, and I try to avoid overconsumption)

Decorate my space with earthy colours, posters and pieces of the earth - I have crystals, bones, pressed flowers and even rocks and twigs in my room

Learn about nature and the world around me - I am a zoology student so my academic career is also a devotion to Mother Nature but I also learn about what animals I can see locally, I study when and where flowers bloom and how to tell when rain is coming etc

Reconnect with my more primal side - a significant part of my work with Mother Nature is reognising and accepting that humans are animals, and we behave as such; we cannot allow ourselves to become seperate from wilderness. To me, this involves connecting with my intuition and gut feelings, recognising my emotions and desires and working with them

Making and wearing daisy chains or flower crowns

Creating art inspired by the world around me and myself

Caring for animals (that includes other humans) when I can and it's safe: from helping a snail move across the path, to making sure a dying bird can rest peacefully, to giving food and money to the homeless

Loving myself, though it isn't always easy

Spending time outside with my hands in the dirt or streams, speaking with the trees and birds and listening to their replies
