I have used the phrase " You can be asexual and still want romance because there are people in my life who still think aro and ace are synonyms for each other. I know the phrase can have bad connotations to it but explaining that to people that don't understand can be even more confusing for them, so I wait until they can understand the bare minimum before teaching them more things.

I feel like there's a certain sort of thing with the phrase "you can be asexual and still want romance" that no one talks about. Like yes, you can still want romance, thats valid, but its also sort of weird, socially, since its also used to distinguish the asexual community from the aromantic one...

Why not just accept asexual people fully whether they want a romantic relationship or not? Why would you need a reason like that anyway?

There's just more to that phrase than it appears to have, its possibly like the only reason some people accept asexuals. Because that was their biggest concern. Romance. Why is that so important?
