I Have An Actual Dilemma This Time.
I have an actual dilemma this time.
My uncle hates cops because they detained him for breaking a No Contact Order with his son (long story). My grandmother (sweetest woman I know) has also declared her hate of cops for enforcing said No Contact Order, inadvertently keeping her from seeing her great-grandchildren.
My personal view on cops is less than it was when I was a kid because of everything that's happened since 2016, and it has only lowered in recent years. I know not all cops (and other law enforcers) are bad, but I can't find it in myself to hold a high opinion when all we see is the bad side of things. (My dad's brother, my favorite uncle, used to be a Sheriff, so that's where all my positive viewpoints come from on this matter)
I have been offered an opportunity to work at my county's Sheriff's Office.
I was at work (Event Staff, which is basically security but we aren't armed and have a few less responsibilities) and talking to the Deputy while waiting for the cast and crew to leave the Theatre. I told him I was thinking about getting a Security License (40 hours of schooling and 30 hours of armed training, I believe) when he told me to apply to the Sheriff's Office as a Deputy (4 months of schooling).
It's a tempting offer, and I kinda wanna take it, but there's a few things that are preventing me from doing so. My family's (not all of them, but I see them often enough) opinion is one thing. Public opinion is another (I may not take to heart what people say/think about me anymore, but the insecurities are still there). The last is my plans to leave the state (I love the mountains and snow, but I can't deal with the pressure of being LGBTQIA+ and not religious while surrounded by conservatives, my family being included) within the next few years.
What the hell should I do?

Whoever needs to hear this. Please know.
"Closed at 6pm" does not mean "The entry door locks up at 6, but if you're already inside you can keep on shopping."
It means, "you should be finished and out of the store at 6pm."
This is not up for debate
This is just how things work

I have NO CHILL so when I saw this T-Shirt I had to draw MetalhEd in it IMMEDIATELY. The Edward Elric shirt of all time.
Saw a post about helping people that used the analogy of "if you see someone fall off a cruiseship and theres a life preserver ring on the wall next to you do you walk away or do you throw them the life preserver? Of course you throw them the life preserver." And i dont want to add to or tag the post with any sort of correction because its literally not the point at all but i am desperate to say that the first thing they teach you when you work on a cruise ship is that if someone falls overboard you Do Not Look Away
If theres a life preserver nearby but you have to turn your back to get it, tough luck. If theres someone nearby who can't hear you but you could run and get them, absolutely not. You see someone go overboard you point at them and never ever let them out of your sight because looking away even once could mean losing them forever, so you just have to trust that someone will hear you scream for help but you cant for any reason look away
And maybe that adds to the life preserver metaphor somehow but mostly i just need you to know if you spot someone in the water you point at them and you watch them close and you scream for help
HEY DISCORD USERS!!
unfortunately, discord continues to be the Worst Messaging Company Of All Time with its updates, and this time, its one that is not only a privacy violation, not only enabled by default, but ROLLED OUT SILENTLY, MEANING YOU MUST KNOW IT EXISTS TO TURN IT OFF.
i am talking about "clips", an exciting new feature /s that allows people to record you in voice chat without your knowledge or consent! Wow!
fortunately, you can turn this off, but its kinda shitty how they didnt tell you this existed at all, yeah?
settings > clips> the button should be clicked to turn it off

(note that it should be ON by default, you will have to click the button to turn it off)
thanks, discord, for Telling Us This Violating Setting Exists In An Update And Making Sure It Is Off By Default. /s.
reblogs are appreciated to spread the word.
