“i trust you with my life.”
the fire crackles downstairs. you open your mouth, then close it. you let techno speak.
“back there, i… my first thought was that you weren’t going to kill me. and when i remembered what you’re here for, my – my only thought was no. the voices were yelling at me the whole time except – except that moment where i went, no, they’re not going to let me die.” he takes a deep breath. “i want to know if that’s true.”

Please note that english is not my native language. If you see any mistakes (whether it’s a wrong word or a grammatical error) you can tell me in a kind way. You don’t have to, of course. This is also the first time I wrote in second person, which was weird (to say the least). Apologies if it sometimes sounds weird or something like that. Nevertheless, I hope you enjoy it :3
Something was wrong. Why? You didn’t know.
Maybe it was the fact that Techno was gone. If he ever left when you were gone, he’d leave a note on the desk right next to the front door, but today?
Nothing. The house was empty when you entered; the warmth, which usually resided inside, long gone and ingredients for potions were strewn all over the floor. Confused, you hung up your coat, trying to think of a reason for the mess. Neither of you were messy; in fact, both of you were strict about keeping your home clean. It was just getting weirder at this point.
‘Techno? Are you here?’ you called out, hoping he was pulling a prank on you. But except for the wind howling outside it remained silent. Sighing you carefully bent over, picking up an empty glass bottle, which was still intact, and placed it on the windowsill.
Maybe he just forgot the note, wouldn’t be the first time, you thought and shoved any worry to the back of your mind. It had already been a long and exhausting day; mining for hours and coming back home with half of the amount you actually wanted to get. Luck just wasn’t on your side today.
Trying your best not to step into any ingredients or shards you made your way over to the small cabinet. Opening its door you grabbed the broom and the dustpan. A sigh escaped your lips as you glanced over the mess; the day was far from ending anytime soon. At least I can cuddle with Techno later.
Cleaning up seemed to take forever. Every time you thought you had gotten the last few shards off of the ground you saw another one shining. Bending over was the last thing you wanted to do at this point but cutting your naked foot in the middle of the night while trying to get a snack wasn’t worth it. Besides, what if Techno decided to come back with a pet? It wasn’t unusual for him to try and bring back arctic foxes or a polar bear.
When you were finished your eyes drifted over to the clock hanging above the door. ‘Huh, it’s already 06:37. Shouldn’t he be home by now?’ Shifting your weight onto your left foot you turned your head to the window. The sun was starting to set and the cold seemed to get worse with every passing second due to the snow storm worsening.
At this point you tried your best to stay calm. Of course Techno was able to take care of himself, but what would cause him to get up and leave without saying anything? He was in ‘retirement’, as he put it; most days you were both just reading. There were days you did nothing else than lay in bed and look at each other, about to fall asleep, because there was nothing you had to worry about.
Or so you thought.
What if he was trapped somewhere? Or maybe he was stuck in a raid somewhere? Your worries only grew and your heart seemed to burst any second out of fear. Fear of him laying somewhere, not being able to get back.
No, no bad thoughts. He’s gonna be back soon, I just gotta wait a bit longer.
You needed distraction. You couldn’t let your mind run wild with all the different possibilities of what could have happened. The small voice in the back of your mind wasn’t helping either. Instead, you were focused on organizing the chests. Though concentrating seemed as hard as anything else, the little hill of ingredients and other resources in the basket beside you shrank over time.
He could be hunting. Maybe the voices were bothering him a bit too much today, you thought, closing the chest and picking up the basket, filling it up with a few logs of wood, to go back upstairs. No, that doesn’t make sense. He’s consistent regarding his notes. Placing the basket in front of the fire you immediately threw a few logs onto the small flames.
The cold remained.
Your eyes glanced back to the clock. 08:19. The sun was long gone and the monsters were already roaming around. Skeletons having their own battles; their bones made that awful sound when they died, but an explosion in the distance caught your attention.
Maybe it’s him!
You ran over to the window; it had to be him. Nobody was crazy enough to go through a storm like this, especially after dusk, but him. But you could barely see anything in the darkness. Another explosion rang through the night, this time much closer, and worried you grabbed your coat. Putting it on in a few seconds you opened the front door and stepped into the cold arctic air.
The wind was stronger than anticipated, which caused you to raise your arm in front of your eyes before you carefully walked down the stairs.
The storm had one advantage; the monsters didn’t see you right away. You could barely see any for yourself, but the thought of them having much worse eyesight than you eased your fears a tiny bit.
Once you turned the corner you saw him. Techno. Relief washed over you as you watched him, not daring to say a word once you saw the blood on his forearms and in his hair. His signature crown and cape were nowhere to be seen, his armor neither. You hadn’t seen it inside either, which confused you, as he never left without it; something had happened. He closed the gate after giving Carl a few apples and walked right past you, a bloodied pickaxe in his hand.
You knew better than to say anything; sometimes he didn’t take his surroundings in when the voices were acting up. Apparently that was the case. You were right on his tail, not bothering to kick off the snow before entering the cabin, and closed the door behind you. Techno was visibly confused.
‘What?’
Not hesitating you nearly threw your arms around his neck, hugging him as if you hadn’t seen him in years. Of course you caught him off guard in that moment and he stiffened for a few seconds, before your scent cleared his senses. A sigh escaped him and he wrapped his arms around your waist, pulling you as close as possible. His head was buried in your neck within a few seconds. Inhaling deeply he took in your scent, wanting to remember it for the next time he was gone.
Techno didn’t say a word. You knew he was exhausted; hugs like these were rare, only given in private when something bothered either of you. But that only made it more special to you.
The hug seemed to last forever, but at one point you pulled away. From the way he didn’t want to let you go your heart broke a little. Whatever had happened had shaken him up pretty bad.
Maybe something happened to Phil, you thought. Your hands slowly left his neck. In the next second though they cupped his face; his skin was cold for once and worried you rubbed your thumb over his cheek. His eyes were focused on you and only you. Your eyes met and without another thought you pressed a soft kiss against his lips. A happy noise, sounding like the very common piglin grunt you heard during trading, escaped him.
After you pulled away you let your eyes wander over his figure. He was still wearing the same white button up shirt and the black pants; both were completely soaked though. No wonder his skin was cold. He might have been warm usually, but depending on the distance he rode through the storm it was understandable that it was cold. A few blood splatters were littered on his neck right next to a scar you had never seen before. You traced it carefully with your index finger. It reached from the base of his neck to his ears. It probably went even further, but his pink hair hid it away. He winced and with concern written all over your face you connected your eyes with his again and pulled your finger away. .
You opened your mouth. And closed it again. You weren’t sure what to say right away, but thinking of the blood in his hair and on him there was only one thing you could think of.
‘Do you wanna take a bath?’
Your voice was incredibly quiet; you could barely hear it yourself, but Techno did. His ears perked up a little and with a nod he pulled his arms from your waist. You only took his hand and led him upstairs into the bathroom.
You didn’t bother to close the door. Why should you? Barely anybody lived in the arctic and even fewer dared to come close to the cabin belonging to the scary hybrid.
You were safe in here.
The water was running before Techno realized you had let go of his hand. He slowly turned to you, sad about the loss of contact. Only when you shoved him lightly towards the sink did a simple smile make its way onto his face.
You took a small amount of soap, rubbing it lightly over Technos arms before wetting a washcloth and getting rid of the blood. Despite your best efforts to not hurt him while doing so a few grunts escaped him every now and then. After you were done with his left arm you switched the side, now standing on his right, and rinsed the cloth as good as possible before tending to his arm.
No words were said, but words were not needed. Your current actions said everything.
You were taking care of him. Despite your own exhausting day, his needs were more important to you right now. He hadn’t told you yet what had happened, but he didn’t need to; it didn’t matter to you, as long as he was safe.
And he knew he was gonna be safe in your embrace.
Once you were finished with his arms you threw the almost blood red cloth in a basket, taking a mental note that you didn’t need to wash it; it was gonna go straight into the fire. Turning your attention back to Techno you found him staring at you, making you smile a bit. Soon enough your hand was on his cheek and without hesitation he leaned into your palm. A deep breath escaped him, his eyes closing.
You couldn’t suppress your short giggle, but after your eyes caught the blood in his hair you remembered your original intention. Your hand fell to your side.
‘Bend over the sink. I wanna clean your hair a bit.’
He nodded and did as you told him.
The cold water running over his head didn’t bother him; to be honest, he enjoyed it. Along with your fingers, which were basically flowing with said water, the voices were getting drowned out. Any remaining want for violence vanished with every passing second.
It took you longer than you thought; the blood was dry and accompanied by the few frozen strands of hair it was a pain in the ass to get rid of. But in the end you succeeded.
He straightened after realizing you were done and glanced over to the tub, slowly kicking off his shoes. His shirt, as well as his pants and underwear, were tossed to the side in a heartbeat. Wordlessly he walked over and seated himself in the tub, appreciating the hot water that surrounded his body.
Despite being happy that he was somewhat okay you couldn’t shake off all of your worries. He hadn’t said a single word since his return, but you also didn’t want to push him to tell you.
I guess comforting him is all I can do for now.
You kicked off your shoes as well, undressed yourself and tapped Techno on the shoulder. His eyes opened and gave you a quick glance.
‘You can just sit down, darling.’
‘I’d like to sit behind you.’
You weren’t sure if he wanted to hide his smile but without another word he made room for you. Immediately you sat down behind him and wrapped your arms around him, pulling the man closer to you. He relaxed in an instant.
What followed was silence between the both of you. The howling wind was slowly drowned out, until neither of you remembered there was a storm to begin with, and the only sounds remaining were Technos approving sighs. Your hands roamed his upper body; sometimes one of your hands left to run through his hair which caused him to melt. In these few seconds he pushed his head against your hands, longing for more. At the same time you pressed light kisses on his shoulder, cheek and the point right beneath the new scar.
Time passed faster than you thought. When he spoke up nearly an hour had passed.
‘They threatened Carl und put Phil under house arrest.’
You rested your chin on his shoulder.
‘Who?’
‘Tubbo, Fundy, Quackity and some kid named Ranboo.’
Confusion struck you. Shouldn’t they be busy with running L’Manburg?
‘Why did they do that? Are they still angry at you?’
He nodded slightly. Sighing you glanced at the scar.
‘Is that why you have this scar?’
No answer. He hesitated, uncertainty evident in the way his hand suddenly gripped yours.
‘You don’t need to tell me if you don’t feel like it. Just know that I’m here for you.’
More silence followed but you didn’t mind. His grip on your hand was getting close to the point of bone crushing but in time it loosened. You placed another kiss on his shoulder, which caused him to turn his face to you. His eyes were searching yours, looking for confirmation that you were still there.
Whatever was going on was serious.
Your hand engulfed his big hand as good as possible and you placed a short and sweet kiss on his lips.
‘I’m still here, don’t worry.’, you whispered in his ear.
He took a few deep breaths before pressing himself against you.
‘They executed me. I… Shit, I was crushed by an anvil.’
Shocked you turned his hand to look at his wrist. Two black stripes were there. The third one was replaced by a green one though.
‘But you weren’t here, you still have three stripes right there, I do-’
‘I was revived in an instant by that totem of undying. It felt awful.’
You couldn’t say anything. You were still shocked he had nearly died but also relieved he was revived. You shifted closer to him, wrapping your arms around him as tight as possible, and hid your face in his neck.
A few minutes of utter silence followed before you spoke up again.
‘I can’t imagine what it felt like but I’m glad. Glad that you’re here, I mean.’
‘Me too, darling, me too.’
