Steady

Flynn can hold a sword and shoot a gun no problem but is clumsy at smaller, more delicate tasks like baiting a fish hook. This was never an issue growing up because Issachar was always there to help him, hand reaching out while Flynn fumbled. They were thick as thieves, Issachar helping Flynn so he wouldn't fall behind in his chores, Flynn personable enough to always get them out of trouble. He will always associate fishing with the peace and contentment found in his childhood.
Nanashi was a sickly child growing up, so wasn't expected to do the more physical chores other children did in the shelter. Instead he was tasked with taking apart small relics, which led to an interest in understanding how relics work and what life was like before the apocalypse. He probably would've ended up as an apprentice to the relics repairman if it wasn't for Asahi pulling him along in her dream to become a Hunter.
Now when Flynn goes fishing it's always Nanashi who comes along. Nanashi reads while Flynn fishes but always pauses to bait his hook when needed. It's a peaceful reprieve from the dangerous lives of a Hunter and a Samurai. They don't talk much on these retreats, but the ripples of the lake and the steady pressure of Nanashi's back against his is enough for Flynn to wish for these moments to last forever.
Flynn watches while Nanashi fixes relics. He sets up a record player then sets the music to play low, so low that he'd still be able to hear someone walk past outside. Nanashi works and the only sounds are the gentle clinks and tremors of old things being taken apart and the music that Boss had passed onto him. He doesn't ask anything out of Flynn except his presence, enough for Nanashi to lift his guard and fall into the familiar pattern of dismantle, diagnose, fix and reassemble. Flynn can't take his eyes off him when he's like this, caught on nimble hands and relaxed shoulders and a focused gaze, clear and steady. Quietly they sit, ankles brushing beneath the table, and Flynn thinks I think I can fall in love.

MAG pls....anymore MAG? pls I have so skills I still want to inherit....archetypes to unlock for Stohl and Hulkenberg...
I haven't been able to stop thinking about Ichi the Witch all day for one specific reason:
I have no idea how the title could have been better translated
The Japanese title is Madan no Ichi (魔男のイチ), where Madan is a clear play on Majo (魔女), which effectively translates to "magic woman." This makes Madan "magic man," which as far as I can find isn't a word in Japanese at all
The intention is obviously that Ichi is a male witch, but there is no term for male witch in English that quite captures how unheard of this concept is in context. We could call him a warlock or a wizard, but if the idea is that men can't use magic at all, then having those terms doesn't make sense in the first place, they're contextually impossible
We could call him "witch boy" or "witch man," but that's inelegant at best and just kinda stupid at worst. You can't call him a "Witcher," cus that's copyrighted. You could use the original Old English term for witch, wicce, and go with the masculine wicca, but calling the series Ichi the Wicca both carries a lot of strong religious connotations and still fails to capture the feeling of uniqueness within the setting
The funniest thing about this line of thought, though, is that you just know there was a point where the translator was sitting at their desk, head in hands, surrounded by crumpled-up papers on the floor that all had the word "MANWITCH" scribbled over in red ink a thousand times
ack just realized checking my blog that reblogs don't automatically inherit tags??? I have to add the tags or else they just show up tagless
AU where the prentices meet nanashi and the two luxurors, jona and isabeau, suspects nanashi is a long lost prince of mikado because he has the iconic eyebrows of mikado royalty
