they/them. Silly little blog for getting thoughts out of my head. If your favourite day isn't thursday that's ok too I guess. It's not like it hurts my feelings or anything.

A Counterpoint To A Common Opinion I See Here: I Don't Think There's Anything Wrong With The Concept

A counterpoint to a common opinion I see here: I don't think there's anything wrong with the concept of laziness, because I don't think there's anything wrong with being lazy.

The sentiment of most posts about the concept of laziness is that it's not a good concept because the majority of people who are being called that are, in fact, trying quite hard all the time. Essentially, that calling them lazy is simply incorrect. And that may well be true! You also frequently see the argument that calling a person lazy is a terrible way to motivate them to do whatever it is you want them to be doing, and I think that's also probably true (but that's also true of all other forms of criticism).

But here's the thing. Neither of those arguments are really about whether or not there are lazy people, only that calling people lazy is generally not a great idea and that the external signifiers associated with laziness are inaccurate. That can be true while there still are, in fact, lazy people in the world.

I know this because I am one of those people. I'm very lazy! I want to live an easy, convenient life full of leisure activities. If I had all I wanted in the world I would spend every afternoon on a sunny patio sipping a Negroni with a good friend to talk to. I work exactly as hard as I have to in order to maintain myself, and I don't want to work any harder.

And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Is there an online register of different frog species' sounds that you would recommend?

There is no one good place to go, but

iNaturalist.org has a lot

xeno-canto.org just added frogs, and is probably the best in terms of data and UI

Macaulay library has some

FonoZoo is horribly built but has quite a few

Museum für Naturkunde Berlin's Animal Sound Archive is horribly built but has quite a few

Hope that helps!

Really says something about the dire state of offerings for men interested in sewing their own clothes that even searching things like "interesting men's clothing patterns" brings up articles with links to four or five whole websites that primarily offer admittedly nice but practically identical patterns for making button-ups and work pants and maybe a varsity/bomber jacket if you're lucky.

(Branching out into historical costuming for everyday wear is like your one shot at variation, and even then, the ratio of men's to women's patterns on every website is frustrating to say the least.)

Patternmakers as a trans man I am begging you. Give me a little more to work with here.

Nothing feels better than shutting the fuck up. I've already imagined saying it in my head, why get into the bother and mess of actually saying it.
