Scott is not in a good place at the moment. It's not just all the homework, and his dad making an unexpected return. It's also a colony of impish gnoblars taking up residence in the preserve. Which is why the last thing he needs is Aiden and Lydia having a massive row in the middle of the school in which the word 'werewolf' might have been shouted. Scott is not in a good place, and he just locks himself in his room.

That is why Isaac makes a list of people. And every person on that list receives a visit from a very pissed off Isaac, who decides to put an end to all this nonsense overnight.

So, in the morning and through the day, Scott nocites that things have changed. That everyone is more amenable, that Coach has given them an extension, that the smelly preserve creatures have left a peace offering by the McCalls' doorstep. And all that is very suspicious, and he doesn't now why, but it's all a great relief.

And when Isaac fakes nonchalance over dinner when Scott mentions this, the penny drops, and he beams, and Isaac feels like the sun just walked into Melissa's living room.
