Aw kiddo, Momma’s sorry. I know I haven’t been interacting with you as much, Momma’s just a little more tired than normal lately. Let’s make a deal yeah? How about you gather allll your favorite stuffies up and we have a movie night? It might not be much, but it’s the best I can do right now. I’ll even go make a tiny little snack platter for everybody to eat from, and maybe I can get you a drink too! Does that sound alright? ~~ Ideas for Carer’s Going Through Burnout ~~
• movie night with a small snack platter / take in that’s more snackish (maybe even feed your bab if you have the energy!)
• show and tell! have your kiddo bring their stuffies (or even other things) and have them introduce them, tell facts about them, or a story about!
• do virtual tours or watch zoo cams with them and ask them some questions about the animals/things they see! or print out any worksheets provided by the organization/for teachers
• tummy time / sensory play! this is a simple but fun time! get a plastic zip block bag and fill it with some paints, buy a tummy time mat, or get some sand for your little one to play with!
• coloring together
. . . burn out can be very hard for us carers! we know more than anything regression isn’t always controllable and that being there for our littles is always our top priority and there’s nothing more that we want to do, so when our energy gets low it tends to stay low because we tend to be hard on ourselves over it! just because our energy is low doesn’t mean you did anything wrong or should be upset because of it, we love seeing our little ones happy especially if we can’t be at the moment, you cheer us up soo much! and to other carers reading this, you’re no less of a carer during your burn outs, take care of yourselves and do your best! 🤍🔅

subtle/budget regression gear!
Sippy - tumbler/bottle with a straw attachment! bonus if it’s your favorite color! personalize it with some cute stickers and doodles <3 (either hand wash or just personalize an outer cover so you can clean it and stay safe!)
Paci - chewelry, silicone straw, ring pop, sucker candy, gummies, thumb. careful with your teef!
Baby/Kid Clothes - oversized and fluffy clothes! lots of stuff at thrift/secondhand shops. if you know someone who wears a bigger size, ask if they have clothes they don’t want anymore. (big sweaters, fluffy socks, sweatpants, etc)
Baby Lotion - coconut oil, any scented lotion or creams. if you’re worried about questions from ppl, u can say that u have sensitive skin or just like the smell!
Kids Dining Set - assorted plastic paper and plastic things! secondhand shops, or if anyone you know has stuff leftover from when they were a kid (or siblings, etc.). napkins or wash-cloths tucked into your shirt collar can be used as bibs! an empty drawer or box or somethin similar can be used as a makeshift tray.
Books - print out some coloring pages (or tear out of existing books) and paste into a notebook. boom! subtle coloring book!! doubles as a little journal, too! also check your local library or secondhand shop for any kids books or coloring books. adult ones also totally work!!
Plushies - if you can’t bring your plushies out in public, try getting some kind of fluffy keychain! great for comfort and stimming, especially when feeling small. mine is a grey bunny!
Toys - stim/fidgets! stress balls, squishes, tangles, pop-its, stuff like that. sold at dollar tree and 99cent type stores. subtle enough that people won’t immediately think agere. you can also doodle on yourself or get some kids games on your device!
and remember - you don’t need any kind of supplies or equipment to be a regressor. this is your coping mechanism, and you can regress however you want. if you can’t get any little items or just don’t want them, that’s always okay!!
