What a difference 17 years makes. Gran Turismo 4 (2005) was a racing game that for its time was considered to be quite realistic. But when compared to the immense level of detail in the latest installment - Gran Turismo 7 (2022) - you can tell there's a world of difference. (This is my gaming equivalent to the "what a difference" posts by @carsthatnevermadeitetc)

Today I learnt that sensitivity to sound is called hyperacusis.

Up to 90% of autistics have hyperacusis.

A six panel comic of the cycle of internalized ableism. The comic is titled "Taught Behaviour" and is made by Theresa Scovil. Panel 1: Honeydew hums happily as they flap their hands up and down. Panel 2: A person comes in, points at Honeydew, and angrily yells "Stop that ridiculous behaviour! You should be ashamed!" Honeydew looks shocked as their hands hang limply. Panel 3: Honeydew angrily replies "What's your problem? You're autistic too, so why are you upset that I'm stimming?" Panel 4: Narration says "Many years ago." The angry person from earlier is seen as a small child, happily humming as they flap their hands up and down. Panel 5: The child's mom comes in, points at the child, and angrily yells "Stop that ridiculous behaviour! You should be ashamed!" The child looks shocked as their hand hang limply. Panel 6: The child hangs their head in shame and says "Yes mommy."

Internalized ableism is taught, often at a young age.

I've seen many autistics go through the journey of unlearning their internalized ableism, but they wouldn't have to make that journey if they themselves hadn't been shamed.
