Hello, welcome! This is my journey as dyslexic learning (hopefully) multiple languages! English is my main language but I am semi-fluent in Spanish. First, I am going to brush up on my Spanish when learning German. Next, it will hopefully be French. Etc. Etc. Thank you for reading!

One of the many things i like about Thorin’s character is that he’s shown to be a very creative person.
Think about it, he plays the harp, sings so beautifully, and other than that he used to forge swords which requires proper, skilful craftsmanship.
And have a look at Thorin’s sign on the contract:

That handwriting is beautiful. It’s not just fancy and cursive but it’s neat. Neater than Balin’s as well, when you see how ‘Fundin’ is written.
This amounts to one important character detail: Thorin is extremely gentle
All this is just so important in considering that Thorin is much more than a warrior. His love for music shows that he’s a simple dwarf who enjoys simple pleasures, and that is one of the things that make him kind hearted.
I can clearly imagine two things: Thorin during his days in Ered Luin smiling while peacefully playing his harp after a long day’s work. And Thorin being pleased with himself over crafting a sword right.
It totally trumps the whole, “Thorin was a gold hungry King” argument which i never agreed with in the first place
Which leads me to something else that I realised: When it comes to his last words, in book he says, “If more of us valued song and cheer and home above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.” But in the movie they cut out “song and cheer” from that dialogue. At first I never gave it a thought, but now I think that maybe they cut it because movie!Thorin did value song and cheer very much. Yes he was serious and broody, but that’s just because of his own reserved nature, and not because he was butthurt. He lets his friends enjoy as much as they want, and joins them whenever he can:

Thorin is in absolutely no way a rash, violent person which the elves perceive him to be.
Yes, he is stubborn and has a short temper and can be very judgemental, but that’s not all there is to him.
The same hands that kill orcs are able to intricately handle harp strings and the pen and the art of forging.
