He struggled a lot at first. He never wanted to be immortal like William and he wasn't particularly scared of death in general. He had accepted his fate when entering the scooper room and waking up from that was not something he ever wished for. He saw immortality as a curse as soon as he realised he wouldn't be able to "die" forever.

The fact that he's stuck in the state he's in definitely doesn't help either. He never recovers from the rot and decomposition process. The remnant left in his body only keeps him permanently in the state he woke up and heals any new injury, but it doesn't heal anything else so he stays purple and full of holes. He's also developed, among other things, chronic pain as, somehow his pain receptors still work perfectly, and chronic fatigue because of how weak his body is. So all of that doesn't make his immortality something he can really enjoy even if he wanted to.

The fact that he was already really depressed beforehand and had wished for death before also didn't help. So, when he got his body back from Ennard, he thought about trying to find ways to kill himself properly, but the fact that Jeremy was there for him to help him through it made him reconsider. He did plan on going back to find a way after Jeremy died (he hoped it would be of old age, but it wasn't).

Though, after Jeremy dies too (in HW), he becomes a ghost and continues to stick around Mike, not planning on leaving until Mike can too. They do try to find solutions to help him move on but mostly, Mike has learned to come to terms with it and learned to accept his fate. At least he's not alone and the idea of Jeremy choosing to stay with him for the rest of eternity if necessary makes him feel all fuzzy inside (even if he wished they could have just grown old together, but what can you do?). Also, after they took in Cassie, and later Gregory, Mike found new reasons to keep on going instead of trying to find ways to die once and for all. (He doesn't like thinking of the idea of them dying of old age one day though, maybe him and Jeremy will go back to try to find ways to kill him when they get there)
