not to be a hater but i’ve never seen a furry draw a shark oc that actually looks like a shark. it’s always just a dog with a fin and no nose which sucks because sharks have such awesome faces. honestly i see this a lot of species where their unique traits are discarded in favor of making it more dog-like. i constantly see people give kangaroos, opossums, etc dog paw pads when they have pads covering their whole palms. i also see people give rabbits paw pads when they have none. there’s a similar issue with plantigrade species being made digitigrade. i’m not sure if it’s a comfort zone thing or if it’s a lack of research but it makes me kinda sad as someone who tries to make my characters as species accurate as possible (within stylization limits). it also drives me a bit insane when people list a dog breed for their oc and it looks nothing like the breed, or worse, they’ll list their oc as dog/cat because it’s drawn so vaguely. obviously people are allowed to have fun and i totally support that. i’m not gonna tell someone their oc sucks because it doesn’t meet my preferences. i’m just a huge animal nerd and character design fan and i feel like it’s a missed opportunity for a stronger design
